Citizens' Alert: You Can Kill the Transit Tax Scam

As reported here Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted against placing a half cent sales tax for Westside transit projects on the November ballot. This sales tax must be rejected because 1) It benefits only one part of the region but would be paid for by everyone in the County, 2) With the economy in dire straits the last thing people will need is a half cent sales tax when especially when the Governor is proposing an additional one cent sales tax, 3) You can't build enough trains to get us out of our traffic mess and 4) Mayor Villaraigosa is behind this.

In order to get this on the ballot, the MTA plans to spend more of your money including suing the County and potentially spending $10 million for an election of their own.

You need to contact the MTA board members and tell them to give it a rest. You do not want your tax money spent on lawsuits and elections in order to collect more taxes from you. Please email and call the following board members and tell them to vote to shelve the tax altogether. Feel free to send this post to your friends and neighbors.

These two board members voted against the tax the first time. Tell them to stand strong and continue to oppose it:

Michael D. Antonovich
Los Angeles County Supervisor
Fifth Supervisorial District
fifthdistrict@lacbos.org
(213) 974-5555

John Fasana
City Council Member, Duarte
fasanaj@accessduarte.com

These two members of the County Board of Supervisors either abstained or were not present for the MTA vote but voted against putting it on the ballot at Tuesday's Supervisors meeting. Call and email them to encourage them to vote against lawsuits and special elections:

Gloria Molina
Los Angeles County Supervisor
First Supervisorial District
(213) 974-4111
molina@bos.lacounty.gov

Don Knabe
First Vice Chair
Los Angeles County Supervisor
Fourth Supervisorial District
cpedersen@lacbos.org
213-974-4444

These board members voted for the tax the first time around but come from cities that the transit tax scam doesn't benefit. Tell them to stand with the rest of County and vote against spending any more MTA money on the scam:

Bonnie Lowenthal
City Council 1st District, Vice Mayor, Long Beach
(562) 570-6919
district1@longbeach.gov

Ara Najarian
Second Vice Chair
Mayor, City of Glendale
anajarian@ci.glendale.ca.us

The following are Mayor Villaraigosa's appointees to the MTA Board from the San Fernando Valley. Doubtful they'll cross the Mayor despite their reputation for being fiscally responsible but feel free to call them anyway and tell them not to screw the Valley:

David W. Fleming
City of Los Angeles Mayor Appointee
david.fleming@lw.com
(213) 891.7902

Richard Katz
City of Los Angeles Mayor Appointee
(213) 922-4605
Boardoffice@metro.net

The following board members are lost causes and are either shady or provincial or both:

Antonio R. Villaraigosa
LACMTA, Chair
Mayor, City of Los Angeles

Yvonne B. Burke
Los Angeles County Supervisor
Second Supervisorial District

Pam O’Connor
City Council Member, Santa Monica

Bernard Parks
City Council 8th District, City of Los Angeles Mayor Appointee

Zev Yaroslavsky
Los Angeles County Supervisor
Third Supervisorial District

Higby, stop lying you skinny child!

POST THE NUMBERS OF WHAT IS BEING FUNDED!!!!!

It benefits the SFV, the SGV, the South Bay and the Westside. IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT THE LACK OF FUNDING FOR THE WESTSIDE, has left it the transportation cripple of the region, setting the other parts of the region back.

But you're too political to look at the facts!

How hypocritical of Villar to condemn the Governor for trying to add 1% onto the state sales tax and claiming that people can't afford it. Let's see, he's the same guy that backed Prop S, is backing the MTA addition to our sales tax and the school bond additions...and I'm sure I missed a couple others. For the record I will be voting against ALL new taxes and "fees" in November. Who's advising Villar? Or does he not listen to his people? How stupid can they be? I guess the better question is "how stupid do they think we are?"

Good gawd, what a fat idiot you are, Higby. You and Antonovich, Knabe and Gloria Molina - who otherwise have nothing in common, being fat old white Republicans from outlying areas and an obese Latina from an outlying area, except pandering to their locals and screwing the city as a whole.

I wish there WERE a secession of the Valleys and East L A, but take your stupid mobs and their electeds with you -- let's put up a series of toll bridges to the city and make them pay to come in. MORON, just like your boss Hertzberg -- although isn't he claiming to be "green" these days, which relies on a foundation of smartly planned mass transit, NOT turning non-existent space for freeway expansion into six more "carpool" lanes per highway, like the Neanderthals at Ron Kaye's blog "argue" as a "solution"?

You backwater hicks who think you could run "the city" better only by stripping the financial-engine core and taking everything to your geographical and mental fringes are the real problem.

What I'd love to see, is the real "city" free of the fringe idiots, with you and your reactionary, provincial Republicans in tractville being joined in a city with East LA/ Gloria Molina and Gloria Romero/Alarcon/Fuentes- land while leaving the middle, what IS L A, to ourselves. We'd thrive and you'd battle it out in extremist oblivion. Just THINK OF THE SHOW: the extremes who hate each other not having "the center" to mediate.

What I would love to see is the "real city" emptied out of every single illiterate, ignorant, mooching, dirty Mexican! Go back to your own country and fix it! Just get the hell out of MY country!

It is also very sad that Bart does nothing but look down women's breasts at meetings.

If it benefits other areas you wouldn't have people opposed to it from the other areas.

Who is Bart Reed? He works for Villaraigosa right?

I have no idea who Bart Reed is, or whether he checks out breasts, which I'm sure are smaller than Higby's, but there is no reason anyone should be reluctant to level personal criticisms of Higby on Mayor Sam. This site was launched in the spirit of personal smear and it continues today. For some reason, you jerks think you're immune. Since Higby has tried very, very hard to position himself as a political leader, I would like to know everything I can about him. For example, Higby recently mentioned he has "clients." I'd like to know who they are. Nothing wrong with running a whorehouse, as long as people know it's a whorehouse.

But it does benefit people from other areas...Higby just isn't man enough to tell you the truth. The politicians aren't mad cause they don't get benefits, they're mad because they aren't getting MORE benefits.

Let alone the fact that their districts have BENEFITTED from the Westside taxes to pay for their ALREADY OPERATING mass transit.

Ha-Ha, 8:47/ 9:07: You wingnuts from the Valleys east and west, and the insularly ethnocentric Latino areas are the ONLY ones who are in that Ron Kaye "revolution" (except for a few misanthropic, reactionary old people on the westside and mid-Wilshire, left over from another era and still fighting those wars -- like the fools who keep fighting Vietnam in Iraq).

You can't squash those who drive the economic engines of this city and anything which elevates us into world-class and above dismal-drab and gang-infested, from Hollywood on -- they loathe you. You've created the "war" and you've already lost.

Your stupidity show that the real "war" in this city isn't just between "the illegals vs. citizens," as you'd posit, but between the core of the city which MAKES us LA to the world, and the fringes right and left. You deserve each other.

You ARE doomed to fail and good riddance -- spin off into your dull, dreary tracts of ugly people; just stay there.

Can we get beyond Bart whoever he is looking at breasts, Richard Katz phone number, making fun of Mayor Sam's weight, racist comments about Mexicans, etc. to debate this issue?

How much have they spent on transit so far? Billions right? Has it made a dent in traffic? I am not seeing it and I drive the 101 everyday.

Too good irony from that fat fool Higby (who slimes everyone blogged about here, and encourages that swampthing zuma dogg and now Anon Coward HailuLA to do same, all for "Hits" to piss people off, so YES his weight is fair game):

Note how he calls "shady or provincial" everyone who is NOT "provincial" -- up is down, down is up in this hicksville Alice in Wonderland worldview. The extremes of left and right, geographically and mentally (challenged) are the camp followers of this blog and the failed-before-it-starts "revolution" by Ron Kaye. As led on by rabble-rousing Doug McIntyre (who's from WHERE, exactly? Uh- huh...) WHAT A BIG FAT HYPOCRITE, HIGBY, and that's a double entendre.

August 06, 2008 11:18 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

The issue is that Higby is a fathed and that if he and his fat friends in the Ron Kaye Revolting Revolution think they can go against the Mayor and the MTA be our guest.

There is a huge need for transit on the westside and some very important and powerful people are going to make it happen. So it means nothing what you people say. Have your meetings clowns you're just a bunch of fatties.

Just posted a new half hour Public Access Election Special that aired last night on Time Warner. Basically, a half hour public comment that sums up what ZD feels are the big issues citizen's need to be aware of in the November elections. You will recognize all the matetial from public comment, but here it is in a half hour, un-interrupted rant (two segments).

I hope you email them around to people like a Town Hall meeting that people don't have to drive or show up for. (Internet baby, USE IT!)

It's great that all these "power to the people" right-wingers don't trust the voters to make their own decision about taxes and would rather use gimmicks to keep the measure off the ballot.

Pffftt!
