New CD 14 Blogs: Comments or not, they decide

A couple of new CD 14 centric blogs to share with you in the early AM.
"JOSE's Blog":

This is no joke, that is until you read the selected self-serving musings of the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN BLOGGIN ABOUT HIMSELF AS JOSE HUIZAR". A excerpt from Huizar's web site

As a public official, it’s always a great feeling when you see something you worked so hard on come to fruition. But this last Saturday, with the opening of Vista Hermosa Park in downtown L.A., a project I spearheaded as a member of LAUSD’s school board in 2003, the feelings of joy, relief and pride shivered through my mind constantly.

I’m sure the beauty of the park, with its lush hills, streams and rocks, had a little something to do with it. But seeing the community – particularly the hundreds of kids who showed up just having the time of their lives – that really did it for me.

While I was on the school board, I enlisted the support of community members and elected officials to come up with a plan to redesign the troubled Belmont Learning Center and push for the construction of the 10.5-acre park. Vista Hermosa (Beautiful View) overlooks the downtown skyline and is located next to the Edward R. Roybal Learning Center, which will open this fall.

Some people might ask, what’s the big deal about a park? But for the Belmont community, which consists mostly of low-income residents who have embarrassingly little access to green space, this park helps right the wrongs they’ve been dealt. Every kid deserves a place to play. And Vista Hermosa is a great place to play and learn.

The battle in 2003 to approve my plan was simply a matter of doing the right thing.

We built a coalition, including the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, to design the park and help gather political support to get the necessary votes on the board to complete the new plan. It was quite a struggle, but I was fighting to give this community something they could be proud of for years to come. It wasn’t easy, but look at the results.

I want to thank my fellow board members, Marlene Canter, Mike Lansing and Genethia Hudley Hayes for their votes to make this happen. They showed great courage during a tough time and this community greatly appreciates that. I also want to thank Mónica García, my chief of staff at the time and current LAUSD school board president, my former staff member David Cobb, and Councilman Ed Reyes, for their work to bring his plan to fruition.

Vista Hermosa Park is located at 100 N. Toluca Street, at the corner of First Street and Toluca.

****From the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN PRESIDING AS JOSE HUIZAR" File
By Tom Topping
On July 13, 2008, five gay couples in Eagle Rock joined the landslide of gay California couples in exchanging wedding vows.
Michael and Eugenie Nogueira, (Sir Michael's Party rentals)provided their very confortable and beautiful Hill Drive estate as the venue for these Eagle Rock nuptials.
Performing the five ceremonies were CD14 Councilman Jose Huizar, who did two, and Superior Court Judge Zeke Zeidler who did the other three.Councilman Huizar married Carl Johnson to local piano maestro Carl Matthes.
What made this special, though, is that Carl Matthes sister Ella Matthes was betrothed to Dr. Gladi Adams at the same time, which may be the first brother and sister gay wedding ever.

BLOG FOR THE TRUTH REGARDING THE SOUTHWEST MUSEUM:

From the great community activists that are the Friends of the Southwest Museum, a blog, blackhatblog.wordpress.com has been created by Dan Wright and Mark Kenyon. Their creation is a repository of all the pertinent information that one needs to counter the banter from the likes of Steve Sugerman and the Southwest Society in the on-going battle to perserve the Southwest Museum, with artifacts in its current location.

For example, one can link here to find out the latest on the exterior work being done on the museum building. Plus you get informed comments like these,
Bob Hart, on July 31st, 2008 at 8:30 pm Said:
Interesting, I keep hearing that the Autry has invested over $5M in the SWM in the last few years. What have they spent that on? Where did that money come from? Is the current $2M included in the $5M or have they now invested $7M of which $2M came from the public and $5M came from the Autry? Thanks Bob.
guywithwhitehat, on August 5th, 2008 at 6:50 pm Said:
Bob-As will become evident when we post for download the Friends of the Southwest Museum complaint to the State Board of Accountancy, Autry has had and does not have any money available even if it wanted to spend its own money on the Southwest Museum.
It will become clear that whether or not the Autry Museum survives next year depends upon the whims and caprice of Jackie Autry. She currently promises to give the Autry about $6 million per year. But that is needed to run the Autry Museum in Griffith Park. So far, she is unwilling to donate any of her substantial assets to conserve the Southwest Museum buildings. For that, the response is: let the government pay for it.
Mrs. Autry promised otherwise in the Merger Agreement she signed. It is now our job to demand that our elected officials, the foundations, the major donors, and the California Attorney General know that Mrs. Autry has to be steered back from the cliff. The Autry must not be allowed to actually break its donor restrictions on the Southwest’s assets.
More later.

And in comparison to the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN BLOGGIN ABOUT HIMSELF AS JOSE HUIZAR", they allow you to comment from the "shadows of the cyber wilderness".

Great addition to the "bloggin community of truth" Dan and Mark!!

What is so sad about this politican is its all about HIM. His so called "community meeting" was all about HIM. Forget the days of when its about the community. No public comment or input ever again. Constant patting himself on the back and taking credit like the jogging path, skateboard park, Tech Center and so many other things HE had nothing to do with. Yet, you read his web site and IT'S ALL ABOUT HIM. He needs therapy.

The Biggest Black Hat in the West blog has a post comparing the Autry Museum's original offer to what Autry had to agree to in order to get the Southwest Museum collection and campus. Now that Autry has the Southwest's assets, what it wants to do in Griffith Park looks a lot like what it originally proposed instead of what it signed in the Merger.

Jackie Autry baits and switches and Tom LaBonge thinks it's just dandy.

The L A Times article about opening that park makes explicit something Huizar doesn't mention here, as his mind shivers with pride: that the park was intended all along to be for illegals, who "have as much right as anyone else" to enjoy the outdoors at our expense. This is an enormously expensive investment - and on a site called too toxic for a school, so I sure hope those illegals don't sue us for our trouble, after some ambulance chasing, city-suing, slimebad 4=th rate lawyer persuades them to.

Jose has to write about himself, he's a politician. He takes credit for everything, but that's the formula for all politicians. Dodge the blame for everything you might get splashed with, and then make sure that the responsibility for crime appear to be in somebody else's lap.

Jose, like Jack, Ed R., Tony C. and Alarcon, should be working to grab any opportunity to cut crime and totally IGNORE the Jamiel's Law. All council members are just so glad that WEISS is piloting the kamikaze plane that is the Public Safety Committee so they can point to that for an excuse, "Can't vote. It's not before us."

Under council's rules, a motion is possible by which a vote to have Zine's motion BROUGHT OUT of the WEISS committee and allow council to act. The enabling motion would not get enough votes based on council pathetic track record. They all want to avoid any INDIVIDUAL declaration of where they stand on this, and so it stays in committee. How convenient.

An attempt to get it before the council would be a courageous move- well, courageous relative to all the things council usually does- and we could actually SEE who chooses to support WEISS' inaction and the who would like to at least let it out air out the issues publicly. Since it would be indicative of specific NON-action by council members, it's not going to happen. I would expect some strategic decisions to be absent for the vote that day on an enabling motion, if ever it were made.

Jose, for all the credit he takes- great blog, all so intimate just like if he was a private citizen- as well as boosting the illusion he creates that the money somehow comes from his very own pocket, completely FAILS on the real matters of life and death.

He is not alone as an offender/council member, but his warm and fuzzy blog invites closer examination for the REAL stories by those in the know.

Just a quick reminder, no councilmember - or any other elected official in L.A. -- "writes about himself".

They pay 25-yr-old staffers right out of major universities, with Master's degrees, to do it for them, because few if any have REAL communication skills. Plus they couldn't find their "vision" for the community with both hands if the they had a magnet the size of an SUV and the vision was made of cold steel.

I guaran-damn-tee you neither the words nor the ideas for the blog posts, beyond "write something about that new park, whatever the hell it's name is" came from anywhere near the councilmember.

What are you smoking? They work in government. Those 5 hour days are MURDER! (Plus it's a council meeting day, and they know the boss is on his way to the meeting).

Alarcon/ Reyes/ Cardenas/ Zine vs. the others. (Like poster says, the extemes of east and left -- Alarcon that Marxist who sucks money out of the westside with a giant straw crying "it's unfair," when his area's one of the biggest commuters TO the westside to work and clogging the roads, often in illegal vehicles, we might add.). Smith says let voters decide; if they don't go for it, that's the end of it, and the County will save millions vs. an extra ballot they'd be forced to pay for.) 85% of the traffic to the westside is thru- traffic, and these people need to get out of their cars to reduce the western US's most heinous traffic and smog -- because of COMMUTERS.

Funny, how Alarcon and gang and Molina don't use the same "logic" when they're demanding the huge bulk of money for LAUSD incl. the new $7 Billion bond measure: since 3/4 of the LAUSD students are Latino and mostly illegals who don't even pay their "fair share" of anything, they demand and get more than that % in school spending. In schools as in mass transit so far, the westside's paid the most in taxes and gotten least.

This whole thing is showing up the REAL divisions in the city/ county, anyway.

No one has mentioned that both Huizar spoke out against gang parcel tax to media saying it needed to be cleaned up and fixed then the very next day voted YES to have it pass. Has anyone asked him how he could have changed his mind overnight being so determined just the day before.

Jose was also the one who showed up at Ramona Gardens after a police officer involved shooting of a suspect with a gun fleeing police. A gun was reported recovered. After being pressed by residents, CM Huizar showed up on the late news saying he would be demanding "an independent investigation" of this shooting "tomorrow morning" because it was "one too many" for the community, to paraphrase it.

Jose can't say honestly that he's a police supporter when he could not even know all the facts of the shooting but then still decide that the investigations already required would not be what, "true"? That's exactly the message he sent out by his knee-jerk statement.

What happened with any of the investigations and what else did Jose have to say on the matter?

He's my CM. And with his quality of instant judgments, I am so glad he's not packing.
