Sources are reporting that San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will shortly announce he is officially exploring a run for Governor of California in 2010.
In the meantime, the buzz is that former Governor turned Attorney General Jerry Brown will announce shortly his intentions to seek his former post. Over the weekend Brown raised over $200,000 for his campaign coffers and is reported as having said "If I'm going to do it I better start now."

This is GREAT news even though Newsom is as sleazy as Villar.
It's great news because it effectively shuts out the Midget Mayor Villar; choose one or you're out!!!
No wonder the city is almost bankrupt. I can't believe how little the rent is at Olvera Street for Antonio's campaign donors. This is the fundraiser tonight by Andy Camacho.
..Camacho’s has concessions at Los Angeles International Airport and Ontario/LA International Airport – facilities overseen by Villaraigosa’s appointees on the Board of Airport Commissioners. Concessions for the Camacho’s two LAX restaurants are set to expire in 2010, according to the airport agency.
Andy Camacho already co-hosted a VIllaraigosa fundraiser on June 24, according to another invitation. On that same day, the Los Angeles City Council voted to award a five-year lease to Camacho’s. Inc. to operate a 3,460 square foot café and store in a building at the El Pueblo monument that surrounds Olvera Street.
The vote came at the recommendation of Villaraigosa’s appointees at the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Monument Authority. They said the agreement should charge Camacho’s $1.60 per square foot in the lease’s first year, $1.80 in the second year, and $2 in the third, fourth and fifth, plus maintenance fees.

If you wanted to find a guy who's worse on Antonio's negatives, you couldn't do better: pandering to illegals (Newsom actually prints up invitations to illegals in other cities, incl. details and city assistance on applying for welfare, food stamps, MediCal and other aid meant for citizens); personal life. These days, with even conservative McCain on a second marriage, Jerry Brown's own weird past with women, it's where the candidate is now that matters. Only one who had real problems was Rudy Giuliani because his kids still disliked him so he couldn't do the "happy blended family" thing.
Gay marriage as photo op: Newsom beat Antonio, by marrying a pair of 80-something lesbians literally on their last legs (one in a wheelchair); that's a mixed "benefit" statewide, so Antonio may benefit by not having been first.
Healthcare: see pandering to illegals. A policy that can only work because S F has so many single gays earning high incomes, few kids and illegals right now -- they can actually absorb more menial labor.
OPPOSITE of L A and many cities.
Schools: see healthcare and illegals.
More formidable opponents: Poizner the fiscal conservative resonates right now, and maybe Jerry Brown -- who's more moderate than Newsom.
Unlikely Antonio will run in 10. He needs to score a major coup, like crime way down, a Bratton miracle; money for his subway/ mass transit; major test score improvement on his schools this year; some local economic miracle. The environmental/ green challenge with S F is one where L A is more ambitious, and he's getting City Council allies to incorporate this thinking in new building, the ports and trucking, etc.

Maybe Mayor V can finally do what he has chronically failed to thus far -- just focus on running the city instead of positioning himself at all times for higher office.

The L A Times has a story by Joel Rubin in W;s paper about how cops in Sun Valley mistakenly told a gangbanger that a girl fingered him, so he killed her.
This took place FIVE YEARS AGO.
Yesterday's story featured a Hollywood trial suddenly stopped when the two cops were shown on video agreeing to fudge the arrest report -- they took some 20 mins. to find drugs the perp dropped running into the building, didn't find them right away as claimed.
So the trial was ended, they're under investigation and because of how the story is slanted, the perp (a known gangmember they'd busted before, but were ticked off to see released right back out in the streets) is the "innocent victim."
So many of the comments come from pro-illegal, anti-cop types, many poorly argued and written, that you wonder if there's a campaign out there to diss the cops.
With these two stories slanted against cops back-to-back, what's the Times trying to do? Meanwhile they're opposing revising SP40, and favor laxity to gangs. Is that it, support the gangs at all cost, even against the cops?
WHO is controlling that rag's content, since Zell drove all the talent away? Some "cabale" of old lefties like Tim Rutten, and Latino and other leftist/ anti-cop ACLU activist journos?

Word has it that Jerry Brown is one of Ace Smith's high profile clients. So if he decided to run for Governor, and if Villaraigosa decides to run for Governor, what will he do???

The times has a story which can't help Newsom's prospects, about how S F paid for authorities to fly juvies and even those lying about being juvies to fly them to Honduras if convincted as illegal gangbangers. Caught a couple mos. ago by ICE violating Fed laws, they started putting them in houses in S Bern, from where they just fled at will, to deal drugs and terrorize their hoods, at best case, to overwhelm their schools with their gangbanging ways. All because S F "thought" they weren't allowed to deport juvies under their sanctuary city laws.

Of course Laura is going to run. Why do you think she is auditing Rocky over worker's comp program all of the sudden. Who else is running for controller beside Wendy? Can you imagine the City of Los Angeles under Villaraigosa, Jackass Weiss and Greuesome Greuel. The City would be a very, very mean and vindictive city that would be fighting to keep things covered up. And if you put Cindy Montenez in there, although I think she is very smart and articulate, I worry about her if she is backed by Reyes/Alarcon/Cardenas. One more of those wackos and you better call the National Guard for backup.
P.S. ZD's Batcomputer market research says Jerry Brown WINS the Governor election versus Doucharaigosa and Newsome. It's already over! It's just a matter if Brown runs. Which ZD's inside sources say he IS going to run.
Get ready, your worst nightmare will be the future, and they'll kick ass without that fool Rocky: Wendy, Weiss, Chick and the Mayor with Chief Bratton will clean up the city, send gangs running, balance the budget and take no crap from any quarter. We'll finally get real mass transit and gridlock and smog will ease. It'l regain its rep as "glamour capitol of the world," not gang capitol of the world. They'll turn this city into the world city it can and should be.
