That's A Big No-No! DAY 2

All hail the might of the Mayor Sam blog!

Yesterday, I made a request for the MS readers to contact a few members of the LAUSD to remind them that school facilities are not available for corporations or developers to use to promote their proposed projects.

This was done in response to Home Depot being granted permission to hold an "Open House" at Mt. Gleason School, in Tujunga, for the purpose of what is really a sales pitch to the community.

If you have no idea what I am talking about go HERE.

I am pleased to announce that Board of Education member, Julie Korenstein's office received around 200 emails by early morning and is now very aware of the situation.
I do not know how many more e-mails she received by the end of the day, but I am sure it was a lot.

Unfortunately, we have not heard back from the LAUSD as to how they plan on resolving this issue, so we're going to have to do this again.

Please take a moment to call or send an email to:

Julie Korenstein
Board of Education
213 241-6388
julie.korenstein@lausd.net

Kathy Friedman
kathryn.friedman@lausd.net
LAUSD Civic Center Permit Office
818 587-4350

Remind them that taxpayer funded public school facilities are for use only by local community members & non-profit organizations, not for corporate self promotion.

Please be polite.

I thank you, and so does Sunland-Tujunga!

Why would we not expect Home Depot
to take advantage of us Tax Payers
under the umbrella of "doing good"
for the community. All they care about is the almight $, not S-T or they would do right thing and pull out.

Their "workshop" is a joke and they must think we are stupid to go along with it. I'm not going to paticipate.

Shame on the LAUSD for not following the Rules which is very specific that the facilities cannot be used by a "for profit" corporation. Hmmmm...I wonder if Home Depot paid them off! They need to revoke the permit.

Dear Ms. Korenstein,

I am a property owner in Sunland.

I must protest the rental of the public property to a
for profit business.

I realize money is short this year. However,
when I was in school back the 50s and 60s, the
schools raised extra funds through bake sales, carnivals,
paper drives and hanger drives. I would gladly support
LAUSD in this manner.

Hey! how about a recyclable drive? We collect about $30.00
a month with empty plastic bottles. That's just one household.
Add cans and metal scrap,,$$$$. And the Mayor would love you.

Rent to for profit corporations? What's next, advertising in the
hallways or over the chalk boards?

Home Depot is the 22nd largest US company. Made almost $85 BILLION in top-line revenue and $4.4 BILLION in profit... in one year Whether you say "non-profit" or "not-for-profit" - They do not fit the definition in any way, shape, or form.
