Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday

Joe B. broke the story here first but yes Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes has pulled his shady Assembly Bill 212 that would have allowed the developers of a controversial housing development in Tujunga to move forward without city oversight. Pressure from the blog and other quarters no doubt forced Fuentes to pull the bill. The bigger question is why didn't Councilwoman Wendy Greuel - who represents the area in the City Council - know about it sooner? I was speaking Wednesday evening with a longtime local who remarked to me that it's a prevailing view that Greuel's staff is often not on top of things leading their boss to be embarrassed many times. Well, it it is hard to hire good help these days.

James Carville says that Barack Obama should pick Al Gore as his running mate
. Okay. C'mon. Stop laughing kids!

The march towards Soviet style socialism continues in Los Angeles as school board member Tamar Galatzan and District Attorney Rocky Delgadillo are behind a movement to require all LAUSD students to wear uniforms. Many schools have voluntarily implemented uniforms and those who support them say it helps improve student performance. As one who grew up and attended LAUSD schools from the 60s through the 80s I can tell that's BS. Its about holding kids accountable to do their homework and that the parents are involved. Lets just wipe out any individualism kids have. Yes, it is time to break up LAUSD if this is the nonsense they're involved in.

Who knew? Valley Doll previously covered the roller skating Derby Dolls; now City Council President Eric Garcetti shows up at a recent Dolls match to sing the National Anthem.

Higby, these days forcing kids to do all their homework IS "wiping out all individualism." Nothing gets done in school because of discipline problems, PC non-academic teaching, and teaching to the test, so homework is usually mind-numbing busywork. If a kid already knows the material and the homework is regressive, they're penalized. Busywork backward homework takes the place of teaching.

Just another reason to break up LAUSD.

Meanwhile, Daily news reports that in order to keep warm, dead bodies in their seats earning money for the teachers and wasteful LAUSD, they've stopped referring the most troubled students -- who DO need all that discipline -- to Paul White's excellent and truly amazing program in the Valley. The most cost-effective program that WORKED.

But then, Cardenas and Alarcon weren't getting control of the funds and the "glory" (for doing nothing) -- the problem with this program was, it was straight, simple and it WORKED.

White's program/ LAUSD "reject school" in Van Nuys was just the most visible of 18 similar schools.

But although he's lost his small, cheap and amazing school, White's being begged by private programs all over the city to help.

White thinks Homeboy is a "gang hangout," by the way.

Never heard of 'em till it's too late? No kickbacks to Cardenas and his Machine, and his no-frills, honest approach didn't have the cachet of Father Boyle baking bread with his tattoed, t-shirted in their Center's Colors, Homeboys.

Higby --- Last I checked, Garcetti has been a longtime supporter of the Roller Derby...looks like your valley girl is a little slow.

Chief Parker reincarnated in the form of Red Spot.

Seems appropriate since the original

80 FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES

were supposedly somewhere in that same part of Council Dist. 14.

Maybe Red Spot was one of the Fake Watchs' Fake Block Captains.

No "FAKER" here.

I missed this announcement elsewhere -- too bad. This was a very cool, laid-back place to meet with people in ES and drink good brew . . . the type of community-building spot that we have too few of on the eastside.

Hopefully their soon-to-open Cypress Park store will provide the same opportunities for that community.

Subject: [ASNCAlert] Good Bye El Sereno

I have good news and bad news, I'll start with the bad. We are getting evicted or just simply not being granted a contract extension, why? The property owners have decided they rather lease the complex to "another" group. "You have made this place into a happy socialist center" - and I quote was one of the comments from the property team. On the bright side, at least we`re "Happy" and for the "socialist" part I think they mean social, community and culture.

Either way, after 6 months of negotiating and shady false promises, they have decided to move along with another tenant. Really, there is nothing we can
do but rant, kick and scream. I rather find solutions and respect the decision.

After all, Antigua Cultural Coffee House existed for 3 solid years and will resonate through Huntington Drive (Historic route 66) for the coming months,
memories of this great community establishment will rise and shine throughout the day and night. We became the spot, the place where students and community members escaped their daily routine and network with others. The home of hundreds of individuals who found a safe haven away from home. The perfect location to study and not fear being kick out by some maniac business owner,
instead it was the place where you were acknowledged and praise.

The organizing center for immigrant rights, resource center for community events, meeting place, campaign semi head quarters for progressive candidates.

Three student films where filmed on location and a pilot for HBO, LATV did a show here at Antigua! ... Google Antigua Coffee House you'll see our
accomplishments.

Poetry nights became comedy nights, somehow the dynamics intermingled to cause such an effect. The best darn gallery in El Sereno. The best and most
beautiful customer base ever!

Antigua Cultural Coffee house became a household name, it was a destination. We were voted "Best" by some of the most acclaimed news agencies in the
city, the envy of the West side, the pride and joy of the East side.

We are Antigua Cultural Coffee House. We should be incredibly proud of what we have built. We are the community leader of Specialty Coffee. And, believe
me when I tell you, we are just getting started.

We will overcome the difficult and humbling challenges we face, and will be stronger for it. You have my word on that.

We are the neighborhood entrepreneurial, we are the community service center, we are the conscious innovation, and we definitely reject the Status Quo.

We are the coffee that brings people together everyday to cultivate conversation and community. WE ARE. ANTIGUA CULTURAL COFFEE HOUSE.

On a bright note, the Cypress Park store will finally open in the summer....I' ll keep you posted on the date.

For the time being, our last weeks will be full of surprises and special guest musicians... Lets celebrate the final countdown... .we ask our
hardcore customers to enjoy our last days and to spread the news to others. Three weeks left.....

That's NOT on the forum you said it was on, DOUBEL-FAKER!

You didn't say ANSCALERT.

Next time you quote the LA Slimes, should we go search the Orange County Register, just in case?

5:15 post is about the West Valley Leadership Academy, run by Paul White and forced to close June30th even though no one disuputes the amazing and unique results with kids on the verge of or already starting in gangs. GO LAUSD, with your shitty, selfish, LAUSD-centric policies.

Now kids like this will languish, the rest of the class will suffer, too. And the Entitlement People and those like Cardenas and Alarcon who want to benefit from gang money at our expense, are lining up to take, take, because they didn't even stick with school and are now illiterate and hostile. So we have to pay 20 times more per kids for little or no results.
