Breaking : AB212 To Be Withdrawn By Fuentes!

This is the word direct from insiders in Sacramento!
Could it have had anything to do with the story in the
LA Times
today?

UPDATE: I just received confirmation from two more sources that the bill will indeed be withdrawn. 9:29pm

The Daily News' Kerry Kavanaugh had it, too, as a "developer driven" bill and went even further, noting that it was designed to first and foremost cater to Bill Handel's rich developer bro re: Verdugo Hills (which Alarcon wants to overdevelop, like he did Las Lomas) BUT she quoted a Fuentes staffer admitting their ulterior motive was to circumvent neighborhood groups opposed to dense affordable housing.

The Times didn't cover it until she did, and commenters did on RonKaye etc., so this is one where the Times had to jump on board at last.

However, David Z does get his stories more detailed in the end, usually -- hope Zell's new policy of paying journalists per story not quality, won't hamper David Z's style, too.

The readers want quality and depth, not shoddy fast stories like the one yesterday in the Times where some reporter sat on a freeway, photographed license plates and "ran them through the DMV database," they admitted.

That is just plain ILLEGAL, invasion of privacy and a shitty way to get a story! Someone should sue them AND the DMV if they allowed this.

So Mark Handel is the brother of KFI talk show host Bill Handel?

Yup, that's what the DN reported, or was it Ron Kaye on his blog, or both... Odd bedfellows greed makes, huh? The bro of conservative anti- illegal immigrant talk show host Bill and the Eastside Mexican Machine.

Against the ire of one small woman, Wendy Greuel. (Who didn't know WHAT she was going up against when shes brought this up in Council -- but as Ron explains, Alarcon and Cardenas did, then Alarcon "acted as innocent as a baby." Figures...)

This shows what can happen when enough light is shined on something that has no public defenders. Even Alarcon won't ADMIT he wants to destroy the whole city with slums -- only Reyes is dumb enough to admit it.

BUSTED!

Anyone still breathing will be able to beat this guy in his next election, with a student-driver campaign staff.

I hope that deceptions like this by one or two city council members against the city and other council members will somehow drive a wedge between the members of the council. They all seem too cozy to my untrained eye. They seem to always go along with each other. Maybe there just haven't been any real issues to divide them. My point is that Alarcon and Reyes tried to pull a quick one and Greuel said "whoa, hold on a second". I hope she and other council members will remember these two tried to screw them and the city and start looking at each other with a little more skepticism. The best thing that could happen (in my opinion) is for some real animosity to manifest itself amongst the council.

6:22: Actually, it was Alarcon and Cardenas who tried to stall Wendy on the vote -- until it was too late. Reyes was absent that day (by design, to not implicate himself?) but he's the one who's always openly saying he can't wait until his Latino/ leftist faction has the 8-vote majority to push low-income, dense, affordable housing projects into every community so I have no doubt he was in on it with this group.

That means there are at least 3 of them; Huizar either didn't know, or bluffed innocence pretty well, unlike Alarcon's obvious pretense.

We know that Reyes often opposes Weiss on PLUM and is mad that he's not going along with these schemes, especially on approving buildings with no parking spots to "improve traffic flow." Not sure how Huizar votes. Clearly Wendy, Zine and LaBonge were blindsided (but Tom LaBonge usually just seems clueless and he and Rosendahl jump on board with anything with catchwords like "affordable housing" without knowing what they're involving).

I'm sure there are tensions there, but no one can come out and say so -- the public jumps on the wrong cases it seems to me, the wrong people. And ironically, it's those like Alarcon who openly jump on the ones like Greig Smith over Las Lomas -- where he seemed to be pulling a similar delaying tactic for a developer pal and got busted.

Alarcon, Cardenas and Reyes, with their friends in Assembly like Nunez, Padilla are outing themselves more than anything.

The question to ask: Why was Wendy asleep?

Or was she?

I have yet to see Cardenas take action against anything that has the potential to line his pockets or further his career. We are all waiting to see one significant accomplishment that benefits the overall community he represents. He has grown so cocky and arrogant that he no longer even pretends to care about the future of our city.

847, the same can be said of Alarcon, who clearly tried to rezone his fiance's property WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE, then withdrew the request.

With one or two exceptions, the ENTIRE city council, mayor and city attorney are dirty. They are all scumbags and, if we the people re-elect them, it's our own fault.

Vote 'em out or stop complaining. We each have one vote, but we also have each a voice to get others to change the vote.

9:04: By lumping them all in the same sack, you undercut your argument. This thread is about a specific issue and a group behind it -- the same ones who've rewarded Cindy Montanez with 2 very part-time jobs earning her almost $300, just for not running against Fuentes or Alarcon. General whining doesn't help. And clearly you have no idea of the complexities behind the scenes.

this is more compelling story than most on here considering the multiple conspirators on the city council.

can someone please find/post the video of the council session in which alarcon/cardenas had to play dummy?

It was the Daily News that blew the whistle. It seems that Tricky Dicky Alarcon and Special Ed Reyes are just too bold and clever for those who want to be liked by everyone, like Hahn and Greuel. It's easy to slip things by them because they aren't going to be the ones blow the whistle.

Let's get together and help get Fuentes voted out of office. AB 212 albatross has proven that these politicians can affect everyone, not just those in their own districts.

Members of NC's, we need to work together and watch everyone that is running for office. If they appear shady, have a history in meddling in land issues unfairly or if we believe in any reason that they would not be supportive of NC wishes, let's work together to kick them out or not let them be elected. Come on everyone, let's start talking!

"It was the Daily News that blew the whistle."

I'm afraid I have the distinction of blowing the whistle on this one. I did a public comment before City Council and blogged it before anyone else mentioned it. (Check the time stamp.) Daily News had it the next day. Orlov was sitting there when ZUMA DOGG BLEW THE WHISTLE ON THIS DURING THE COUNCIL MEETING!

(But yeah, other people broke it.)

Orlov was sitting in the front row watching my public comment.

The DN has an Opinion calling this what it is, "sleazy" in both method of stealth introduction, and in its intent to harm the community and city. And they don't go far enough.

Tie it to how this exact same bunch is behind getting Cindy Montanez almost $300,000 of our taxpayer money at a time when the city's raising fees on everything from meters to kids using their schools for excellent after school programs just because she didn't challenge Fuentes or Alarcon, and you've got something the media is seizing on.

Their Achilles heel: shameless ego and greed.

Zuma (11:00), stop trying to claim credit for everything, including the sun coming up.

You know damn well that when Wendy first exposed AB212, you jumped for joy in Council and, like the ignorant moron you are, shouted, "Thank you! The grownups in Sacramento are finally telling the teens in City Council to grow up!"

Alarcon loved it.

You're worse than an idiot, you're a lying braggart idiot. Go away. Go brag on your own blog.

Excerpts from todays Daily News Editorial regarding AB 212

"Thus AB 212 fails on both counts: Its origins are sleazy, with a politician doing the dirty work for well-connected developers who just so happen to fund his campaigns. And its effect would be awful, stripping land-use decisions from local communities, where they rightly belong.

The bill was quietly working its way through Sacramento before L.A. leaders got tipped off and began to kick up a fuss. Their outrage paid off, with Fuentes backing down Monday, and yanking AB 212 from the legislative calendar, thus ensuring its quiet political death.

To which L.A. can reply: Good riddance. This was a truly bad bill, in every sense of the word."

GREAT SCOOP JOE B.!!!
