Rick Caruso speaks about 2009 Mayoral Election
This was just posted on the "Sunday Morning Musings" thread.
Just watched Conan Nolan's "News Conference" on Channel 4...His guest was Rick Caruso and they were having an informal chat at the Glendale Americana....Sounds to me like Rick Caruso is GOING TO RUN FOR MAYOR! Great news!
He made a special point of saying that we don't need career politicians who only worry about getting re-elected; that they might need to go out and get a real job someday! He said " people who have been great leaders, like Schwarzenegger (not sure about that) and Bloomberg (Billionaire RINO), have not had to worry about getting a job because they know they can go back to the private sector and earn a living".
When asked about running for mayor, he said his family is his priority right now, but if the right opportunity comes along, and the timing is right...it might be something he might do.I'll bet Tony V. is shivering in his boots right now! And he must be praying that Hillary is elected! Either way,
I think we will have a Mayor Caruso next year!
Hurray!
Hmmm, and in the recent weeks we have seen comments from the likes of former Mayor Richard Riordan, Billionaire Eli Broad, County Supervisor Zev Yaraslavsky, Mayor Candidate Walter Moore and the building backlash over the murder of Jamiel Shaw Jr. that highlight the growing discontent regarding the reign of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
Odds are looking good that we will have a spirited battle for Mayor in 2009, with multiple challengers.

Does LA really need a developer to be Mayor? With the shortages of power and water and the already crowded roads, the last thing we need is more people and that's the only thing developers want is more people to buy their developments.

Not that I won't be happy to see Mayor V thrown out of office, I'm not convinced that a developer is the right choice to replace him. LA needs less people, not more.

Am I the only one to miss this, or did MS not write about McIntyre's outstanding critique of Villaraigosa and City Council.
If nothing else, Walter Moore is our friend and this story should be read by everyone on this blog.

the story in today's fishwrap reads, "Police free abducted woman," but if you read it, it's about a 20-year old female who came ILLEGALLY FROM HONDURAS WITH HER THEN-BOYFRIEND, 35-year old Mario Menas (who looks downright neanderthal in his photo, sorry if that's un - P.C., but he looks like someone you'd find in some primitive jungle village).
She broke up with him this Jan. and found a new guy, he didn't like it, locked her into the basement of a banquet hall where he was living and though she made repeated cell phone calls to the cops, didn't know her exact location except somewhere in Maywood (he had no legal documents, hence no address, and meanwhile he kept raping her.
Frank Hauptmann, "interim chief of the Maywood-Cudahy Police Dept.," claims this proves that cops should not check for legal status since she was afraid of being deported.
NO, since the city came out as openly a "sanctuary city" in 06, about half its residents are illegal now. What this shows, is that declaring a "santuary city" invites this literal animals to your city, scum who imprison and rape their "girlfriends" who leave them. What kind of "society" are these immigrants forcing upon us?
What's Caruso going to do about this?

That's the worst fucking news I've heard this week. WORSE than my having a broken freezer and dishwasher in the same week leaking water in my kitchen!
Rick Caruso says we don't career politicians. Right. We need billionaire DEVELOPERS.
I'd rather slit my wrists. One can only imagine the kinds of decisions he would make.
God help us. He would be worse than Riordan.

WHo is Caruso?

The only reason that egomaniac Eli Broad is mad at the Mayor, is because he's not PRO-developer enough -- he actually questions some of his grandiose visions.
Broad's "vision" is responsible for the white elephant public school going up downtown next to Mahoney's Cathedral -- the thing looks like Disney Hall, is budgeted at almost $300 million which we all know, really means it will come in at least $450-500 million.
All this while it's on a dubious site AND way, way too huge to be effective -- Green Dot and public charters all find that students learn better in small communities, that atmosphere of caring and comfort is far more important than spending a fortune on some gigantic, impersonal building.
That's why LAUSD and the Mayor's new appointee to take over from Brewer, are jealous, and are going back on their promise to let charters use unused LAUSD space - something they've been legally REQUIRED to do for 10 years now.
Even the leftie Times finds this questionable, at best, when middle class parents are forced to pay for "extras" like computer teachers, TA's and building improvements and landscaping (which are NOT "extras" they're basics), let alone art and sports and uniforms.
Many "rich" westsiders don't have a school at all since they've been long taken over by affirmative action/ bused in kids who've brought down the scores and turned them into outposts of the barrios and hoods. The few that DO are overcrowded and run-down. But LAUSD keeps building where students have moved OUT and they're not needed, and now Broad has demanded a boondoggle downtown, just to give the phony impression that downtown is thriving -- Gee, look at the fancy, world-class school we've got! (NOT on his dime, of course.)
The Mayor doesn't deserve shit for THIS one -- Broad is trying to leave a legacy to his own name at taxpayer cost. (Look how he stiffed LACMA on the "gift" he promised, but not before getting HIS name on the new art expansion.)

Counter spin is concrete evidence that the "POLLOVILLARNISTAS" are spinning scare on a possible Caruso run for Mayor.
Anonymous said:
Wet Spot, someone doesn't have to be associated with the Mayor, as I'm not for sure, to see that billionaire egomaniac developers like Broad and Caruso would only be worse. You think they'd give a shit about anyone whose net worth is under ten million min., or even find East L A with a GPS? (Gail Goldberg would look like Charles LIndbergh or Mario Androtti by comparison.) Sure, I'd be glad he wouldn't give a damn about the Mexicans there -- but that would go both ways, since he'd totally ignore them and let their corrupt ways go unnoticed, like Riordan did.
Why do YOU think this Caruso would be so great, when he's never done anything except make money by commercial developments?
You have NO reason whatsoever, so the "anyone but Antonio" spin is stupid.

Riordan had the potential to be a great mayor. Because of his great personal wealth, he didn't need the job to get rich. He could have stood up the special interests and fought, win, lose, or draw, for the things he believed in.
But he wanted to be liked by everyone, and the job gave him the one thing that he didn't have, public notiarity and attention.
There are plenty of multi-millionaires who as Democrats got elected to high office. So being rich, or being from nobility (JFK, FDR) doesn't necessarily make you a bad person.
You would support Caruso if you thought that he could become the kind of truly independent mayor that Riordan could have been.
Anonymous said:
JFK wasn't nobility. His dad, Joseph, got rich running rum during Prohibition, and had ties to people his devout Catholic wife wasn't too keen about. (Maybe that's one reason she spent so much time in Church and praying. Of course, she was also a huge bigot -- when one of their daughters wanted to marry a Protestant she threatened to disown her.)
LOTS of well-founded guilt there, plus some really LOW-CLASS ability to kick ass brought over from the old country, by their dad and his dad. Daddy Joe made JFK in the back rooms by threatening to destroy people.
Maybe Riordan was too NICE a guy and genuinely wanted to be liked.
But Riordan had spent many years volunteering on commissions and charitable works first, networked, proved who he was. Caruso's nothing more than his namesake, the opera singer, could be: an egotist out to gain fame and fortune.
MAYBE Caruso can run in a decade or so after he volunteers and earns his stripes, like Riordan and other megarich who have to be philanthropists and "selfless" citizens first.
Only the real scum like AlarCON, Reyes (Zuma's right about them as being on the far left, MeCHA agenda intent on taking over Aztlan from the Anglos, sorry to say), Cedillo and the plain greedy OR naively foolish (Rosendahl, Tom Hayden) can just jump right in.

Caruso is an brilliant, arrogant developer.
He would never run for Mayor, especially against an incumbent one.
This is worse than Higby doting on Hertberg.
Ain't a gonna happen.
Anonymous said:
Okay One Who Knows. I'm going to believe you because I too believe that Caruso is a brilliant man, although I don't think he would make a good mayor. No way in hell.
He's a Republican. I'm glad he won't run against an incumbent. Like we said - he's a developer and one of the last things we need.
Anonymous said:
So the great thing about Riordan was that he wasn't a career politician, right? Right, until he was termed out as mayor and ran for governor, at which point he was well on his way to being a late-in-his-career career politician had he only won the Republican nomination.
So, for Caruso, don't just look at his resume, which does include stints on various city commissions over the last two decades, look at his philosophy. Right now, all we really know is that he likes to build things. Now THERE'S a philosophy all the anti-development activists are sure to embrace.

Folks lets face the facts dumb ass democrats and more recently a dumb ass loser Mayor has ruined this city. LA now looks like Tijuana. Rick Caruso is smart, savyy, a great down to earth guy, caring, approachable and has the vision to lead this city. I'm a democrat but would vote republican for Rick. He not only has millions but he gives back to the less fortuate. He is on the board of Paros Los Ninos and has given money to help the poor Latino kids, he anonmously gives to many charities and understands people. He would get tons of support if he ran for Mayor. The Valley has already been talking about him since last year.
Mayor Sam said:
I'm not predicting yet that Caruso is the guy but the word has been that Riordan and Broad are "interviewing" for a new Mayor.
In the meantime Zev and possibly one Clowncil member are reviewing precinct sheets and counting votes.
Riordan and Broad will decide soon. Your first sign of that will be the departure of Robin Kramer.
Stay tuned kids! Fun is coming!
Mayor Sam said:
705 there may be some very good things about Caruso the least of which is that he's one of the few locals who has ever had the guts to call Maxine Waters like it is.
BUT - the Valley will not support a multi-million dollar developer this time around. They're too pissed at them. The Valley belongs to Zev.
Anonymous said:
I think Caruso will have a lot more support then Zev. Caruso was a police commissioner and did a great job as president. He had a ton of support from a lot of powerful people. I would put him the front runner for next Mayor. Word is Villaraigosa didn't come out to speak to illegals cause he's already pissed off people who donated to his campaign and have seen this city go down the toliet. Anyone but Fabian, Antonio, or any Latino politican
Anonymous said:
Mayor Sam I respectfully disagree wtih you. This is where I first heard the idea a year ago from valley people. Rick Caruso has been so successful because he understands people. This city would never be in the huge deficit if Caruso was mayor. He knows how to make things work, is smart enough to get something done, has been gracious in the face of adversity and come out on top and you can't help but like the guy. Already people in big circles are talking about him running and supporting him.

Higby, you're still talking about Broad as a desirable Kingmaker? HE's the biggest old fart egotist other than Zell and look what he's done to the Times. Rape and pillage.
Broad is the old egomaniac who's responsible for the boondoggle school downtown next to the Cathedral (appropriate, another shrine to egomaniac Mahoney) that looks like a slide (yea, great idea, put Captain Jack on it and let him rip) - BUT he never offered to pay a dime for it, just "loan" the city money at interest, but insisted that Romer and Mayor Hahn go along with that monstrosity to make it look like downtown was a real, futuristic city -- to give "his" Development a "family look."
It's being written up all over the place as a big waste even for the wasteful idiots at LAUSD. And meanwhile, where's Broad's money for downtown?
What about how he promised his art to LACMA then, AFTER they already named the new building after him and couldn't take it back, he took back his art and just "loaned" it.
Leaving LACMA to cover the egg on its face, and placate furious donors who didn't get the same.
BROAD DOESN'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE CITY, HE'S MILKED IT AND PULLED OUT for new pastures to fleece. In fact, whoever Broad backs next, I'd worry about.
(It sure won't be anti=development Zev, though.)
The Mayor's big failing is not doing anything to reign in those MeCHA fools, especially Reyes, who want to start their Reconquista aimed squarely at the Westside and Valley, and admit it constantly, and express open class hatred toward the Westside/ CD5 and 11 in particular. Along with AlarCON, "your brothers and sisters aren't dogs and ponies" Perry, and along for the ride Huizar and Cardenas.
This last Friday's spectacle of them spending some hour and a half on Mexican stuff in the Valley, while the locals squirmed and fumed, pretty much summed up how utterly clueless they were, about how they're the worst nightmare of Mexicans in power. Shameless.
Eric was counted by them as "the five of us," and likes to play both ways, white/Hispanic, Catholic/ Jewish... Except that he's young, he may be Mayor someday. Not yet, not against Antonio. But he's sure been playing all sides, including kissing butt to the developers.

Maybe the "angry white boys" who overpopulate this blog should just man-up and move to a compound in Idaho where they won't ever have to adjust to the fact that it's not 1950 anymore.

Thanks for posting the vide links. They're being e-mailed all over the city and people are now saying it would be great if Caruso did run for Mayor.
Anonymous said:
Well 8:45, I am not going to vote for someone based on what he could have been even if he gets endorsed by what that last guy "could have been".
Were you joking?
So you would have voted for Jim Hahn if he ran for mayor because he could have been like Bradley. He wasn't but he could have been.
Is that what you're saying?
Anonymous said:
I'm around the valley a lot and I never heard the Caruso rumor except for on this blog.
No developer is going to cut it in the valley and neither is Zev. He can't destroy the city and then come back and say, "sorry I was wrong and now I'm going to run for mayor and do the opposite".
Face it y'all - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will be holding that same title for 5 more years and he'll spend 1 of them campaigning.
Deal with it.

He didn't tell Maxine like it is. He told a bunch of LAPD officers about "that bitch Waters" at a meeting. She found out about it, and showed up at a police commission meeting. And, he ran out of the back door showing everyone once and for all who the real bitch was!
