More than 26,000 runners, including participants from all 50 states and 100 nations, are participating in Sunday's 23rd Annual Los Angeles Marathon, making it the fourth largest among U.S. races and seventh largest in the world, according to organizers.
For the second consecutive year, the 26-mile, 385-yard race is being run on a "point-to-point" course with the start and finish in different places.

I like the picture of the elite runners going past the MS-13 graffiti.
A very proud day for Los Angeles, "The Gang Capital of the World". It allowed L.A. to showcase it's finest in gang graffiti, from MS-13 gang, one of the largest street gangs in the world.
To bad there wasn't a gang shooting on the marathon's route, the runners would have broken world records with the L.A. style motivation.
Be proud of our latino immigrants for being represented in this gang graffiti photo. Just like the Mayor says "Si Se Puede".

It seems as if Mayor Sam is becoming LAist for grown ups.

Is the Marathon necessary to Los Angeles in this day?
It's bringing traffic disruptions, more expense for an already under-funded police department, and the prize money is only winnable by people who aren't even Americans.
Who knows what other less visible police work had to be done to make the event and route "safe" for this once-a-year splash when long-term solutions that are needed for people who live and work in L.A. continue to be put on the back-burner?
The "Priority" never gets priority treatment in L.A., meanwhile city officials and especially the DWP continue to insult us with their spending policies and actions.
An opinion from resident cm JH's district
