Pavley Leads Levine In, uh, Pavley Poll

Here's a straight shot from a credible Jack Hoff source:

"The Fran Pavley for SD 23 campaign is circulating the results from a 400 sample survey conducted by Goodwin Simon Victoria Research between March 2-4. It finds that Pavley leads 36% to 18% over primary election opponent Asm. Lloyd Levine in the initial ask, and 'after balanced positive paragraphs about both,' Pavley's lead increases to 56% to 29%. The poll also finds 'Pavley crushes Levine' in the half of the Senate District that overlaps AD 41, which Pavley represented for six years, and that she leads 'among men and women; liberals, moderates and conservatives; Catholics, Protestants and Jews; Latinos and Anglos; and among all age groups.'"

JH: As a compromise, Levine has just offered Pavley the highly prized Chief of Staff position upon his election...

Mayor Sam, someone (Jack H.) has a bad credibility gap here, and a bad case of exaggerate-his-importance-itis.

"From a credible Jack Hoff source?"

Dude, this is a paste from the Capitol Morning Report.

Exaggeration and plagiarism.

Since you seem not to know, it is common practice in both mainstream media and the blogosphere to attribute a fellow media or blog source by name.

For example, when the LA Times reports a story from AP, it writes, "AP reports that" or "from an AP source."

Likewise when a blogger quotes a fellow blogger. I.e., "Westside White Guy is reporting that Jack Weiss..."

When you leave a source unnamed (unless it is a unique, exclusive human source of yours who asked to be unnamed) and when you quote a source word-for-word, it is both plagiarism and a copyright violation.

Are you really such an amateur that I have to spell this out?

Finally, it makes you appear a little self-aggrandizing. If it is from the CMR, why not just say so, instead of implying you had somehow gotten a hold of the poll?

Remember, Jack, you identified not as a source, but a "Jack Hoff" source.

Unless you own the CMR, you're out of line.

Thanks. You're right. I'd like to accept full responsibility for my actions by blaming others; in this case, my "credible" email source for not crediting the source from which they received it (CMR?), which, ostensibly, CMR(?) must have gotten from a press release or interview from the polling company -- who is actually credited in my satirical little blurb.

However, rest assured, your note is well taken and from now on, I'll be much more careful as to sourcing (this is my first miss) and in the future I'll be referring to my formerly credible email source as my "Credible Douchebag Source With A Subscription To CMR."

"Are you really such an amateur that I have to spell this out?"

In all honesty? Yes. This is the Mayor Sam's Sister City Blog, not The New York Times' Blog.

"Finally, it makes you appear a little self-aggrandizing."

Please speed this up. I'm running out of time, you puny little poster.

"If it is from the CMR, why not just say so, instead of implying you had somehow gotten a hold of the poll?"

I explained that but, okay, okay... in all seriousness, major apologies to CMR(?) and thank you, dear Anon, for taking the time with your kind note. I am in your debt for your energy and attention to making me better. Please know that your effort is not lost on me and please always feel free to keep me on my toes.

Til next time....!

To answer your question, "no."

Those two have a much healthier relationship than my parents ever did.
