LA WEEKLY "Villaraigosa Autry National Center Hubbub"

The counterattack against the Autry National Center attempted removal of the Southwest Museum Native American Collection to Griffith Park continues with an article in the LA Weekly.

The short but concise story paints Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Councilman Jose Huizar as flip floppers regarding the preservation of the Southwest Museum in Mt. Washington. Better term would be "SELLOUTS" but I digress.
While on the subject of sellouts, our favorite "MINISTER OF SPIN" and former Mayor Sam awardee Eliot Sekuler is quoted,
Eliot Sekuler was one of the few Mount Washington residents actually
invited to last September’s mayoral press conference — after he switched
sides.
Vice chair of Arroyo Seco’s neighborhood council and president of the
Mount
Washington Association, Sekuler says he realized the locals could
never get what
they wanted. The Autry “doesn’t ‘get’ the Eastside of L.A. at
all,” he says. “It
would have closed [the Southwest] if not for the loud
protests, but we got some
concessions."
As usual Eliot will spin sellout as a form of concession. And you ask if the "Southwest Society" was mentioned ?? Yes, our favorite elite group who mostly reside in the "PEOPLES ENCLAVE OF MT. WASHINGTON" are taken to task for doing nothing.
This article comes on top of today's LA Times piece by David Zahniser which reveals the complaint to the Ethics Commission by advocates of the Museum.

MORNING UPDATE:
Eliot Sekuler is not too happy with the recent transfer of a certain Rec. and Park official. It seems that this official was granting "favors" for events such as Lummis Day and others. This same official was also alleged to have granted "special access" to the Armory site in Boyle Heights while not responding to the needs and requests of the surrounding community.

How much are Villaraigosa's promises worth? In 2003 he promised CD 14 residents he wouldn't run for mayor. In 2004 he promised the community at a meeting in Romona Hall that he would stop the Autry from pillaging the artifacts from the Southwest.

I don't understand the phenomenon that occurs when a newspaper does a story on something previously blogged here.

That LA Weekly article was no bombshell. Mayor Sam bloggers have been extensively covering this for over a year with the real deal at Autry/SW.

I read the Weekly article. Compared to what has been blogged by you and Zuma the coverage is a big disappointment.

I know Dan Wright has a lot more to offer than what was printed in Weekly.

Stop reprinting everyone elses work. If you have something to say about SW Musuem or anything else, just say it yourself.

The issue has already been covered with more inside detail than LA Weekly or any newspaper will.

Be a man, not a Xerox. But that might take a little more effort. And no, I don't have to tell Roderick, I am telling you.

Yeah, you got a good point there. Mount Washington really is an elitist "slum" - complete with $1+ million homes owned by Villaraigosa, Reyes, and a dozen other senior level city hall six-figure salaried executives.

Bulldoze it.

Still don't understand that one.

Are you talking Mukri? Why, he wouldn't let his own grandmother use the park for free - on her 100th birthday - let alone constituents who've already paid for the parks 10 times over.

If you are THE one or one of one hundred you challenge my mind I appreciate your comments.

Sometimes I understand you are like my brother and at other times you are like the men who abuse me. No matter which, I learn and enjoy from you all.

I,as the Southwest Musuem, know that I am being screwed by many. I know that I dont fight back because I dont have the cajones to fight back. I know that I want the Southwest Musuem; no matter how big or small should be returned to CD14.
