Potential candidates to replace the "OFFICIAL STATE WINE TASTER"
Names of potential candidates to replace the "OFFICIAL STATE WINE TASTER" Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez are making the rounds.
According to the "Los Angeles Garment & Citizen" Arturo Chavez, aide to State Senator Gil Cedillo, plans to run for the 46th District seat being vacated by Nunez.
Chavez, no stranger to readers at this blog, would join veteran Nunez staffer Ricardo Lara and newcomer Michael Aldapa in the race to replace Nunez.
Lara, who worked for the late Marcos Firebaugh has been Nunez's district director in the Historic Core district of Los Angeles.
Aldapa, who grew up in Boyle Heights is a USC graduate and has volunteer for various community groups.
One can guess this list will get longer as we approach the March 7 filing deadline.
Labels: 46th Assembly District, Arturo Chavez, fabian nunez, Los Angeles Garment Citizen, Michael Aldapa, Richard Lara

Arturo Chavez, mi amigo!!! Running for Cedillo's seat? Wow! ZD can say this much about him, despite which side of the issues you are on: Arturo is just about the best spinner for the agenda he represents than just about anyone I have come across, so far. The guy has done more to get ZD to see the perspective from the other person's eyes better than anyone. (Whether you agree, or not.) The guy is good! Maybe Hillary should have picked him, instead of the Antonio loser-crew. Art is scary, because he is able to speak in complete sentences.

Dear Mr. Deleted,
Of course I'm not comfortable having you post people's personal email addresses. It's not like they are lacity.org addresses. But I know, you'll try to keep reposting them...and I'm sure the other side will re-post some blast from the pasts, too. (And you may even be included in some of them.) But I know, you are stubborn, so you'll push it. ;)

Zuma,
Now you know why LA Ethics Committee is calling people who contributed to a certain person mentioned on the list of candidate predictions at February 18, 2008 11:51 AM.
It's the type of thing the City of Los Angeles will pull if they don't want you to run.

Zuma -
Arturo is running for Assembly Speaker Nuñez's seat, not Senator Cedillo's. I must agree with you though, Arturo is solid and has paid his dues. This race will be very interesting. Lets see what deals are cut in the next few days.

I really hope the Homer Simpson of LA City politics - Alvin Parra stays out. How much more can he continue to embarrass his family.

Alvin has no interest in running for a political position. Who put in his name? As another blogger said.."If you dont want someone to run....
Guess they didnt want Alvin to even think about it!

Sorry, Mr. Parra has no plans on running for political office at this time. Not trying to be ambiguous and leave it open like Mike Bloomberg. He's not running.

John Perez, the former UTLA President?

Thanks for the clarification on Art (running for Nuckelhead's seat, not Cedillo's.) Not that I support Art, but YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME IF YOU THINK ANY OF THOSE OTHER NAMES HAVE A SHOT OVER ART??? I don't even think anyone has to cut a deal. Clearly Art is next in line. I don't even think they should waste money on an election that they will end up controlling anyway. Just go straight to inauguration and dump all the State , County and City money out of the sky from a big helicopter for everyone on the street to grab. (That will save a lot of time and bureaucracy, too.)
Like I said, Art is the best at what he does, but I don't feel he, or Gil represent the entire population of constituents, just a narrow fraction. I don't think they understand the difference between having your own personal belief as an American; while representing the entire constituency as an elected official.
For example, if I was Mayor, I would want to run Led Zeppelin videos on City TV 35 in between Council meetings; but as an elected official, representing more than Led Zeppelin fans, I would know better. (They don't know how to make that distinction.) It's called a propaganda agenda, and they have one. But I still like Art the best out of all those shady agendized, niche representatives who end up selling-out the people they are campaigning on the backs of, anyway. (But I'll save all my energy on THAT discussion when we get closer to those "ballot canvasing house parties."

Both Cedillo and Antonio's comadre Maria Elena Durazo are supporting Obama. With these connections Chavez can tap into Union money. Surely Durazo wants a "true" friend of labor in this district.

has cedillo ever been a part of a winning campaign? griego. villaraigoza's first run for mayor. hahn. obama.
for those smart ones out there...yes i know he won his own seat.

Democrats Speak...
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the race to succeed Nunez is that two of the aspirants are members of the Northeast Democratic Club! Back in 2005, a dynamic Democrat from La Canada/Flintridge joined our club. He was the first Democrat elected mayor of his city in years. As mayor, he demonstrated an uncanny ability to work with Republicans and independents to improve the quality of life in his city. In 2006, he was elected to the Assembly from the 44th District. Last week, he announced his candidacy for Speaker. He is, of course, our friend and fellow Northeast Democrat Anthony Portantino.
In 2005, another remarkable Democrat joined the club. He was a former civil rights organizer and staffer for the National Education Association and the California Teachers’ Association. In 2006, he was elected to the Assembly from the 45th District. Upon arriving in Sacramento, he was elected Assistant Majority Leader of the Assembly. He is not currently a candidate for Speaker, but has been prominently mentioned in the press as a likely candidate for the position. He is a great friend to and member of the club. His name is Kevin de Leon.
Portantino and de Leon are only two of about seven candidates for the position.

ummm. i think this post is about the 46th not the speakership
Anonymous said:
Kevin de Leon is the same as Nunez, plus he is a flat out racist like no one you have ever met.

I thought Ed Reyes was promised that seat in exchange for Ed supporting Jose Huizar over Nick Pacheco. I thought this was the swap everyone was talking about.
What happens to Ed now?
Anonymous said:
measure r. that's what happens to ed.
Zuma Dogg said:
Kevin DeLeon...aw, hell naw! That'll really bring ZD out to the political rallies! ABK...anyone but Kevin. (Hey Kevin, make sure you keep my name out ya mouth, son.) Can't you run a career without mentioning my name? Guess not, you crybaby bitch-ass.
Zuma Dogg said:
Hey De Leon...you wanna talk about me in the community...I WANNA TALK ABOUT YOU! I'LL WIN THAT BATTLE. YOU HAVE EVERYTHING TO LOSE, SISSY.
Anonymous said:
Zuma,
If you really feel that way, you should make you voice heard and support Arturo publicly, if it comes down to an election between he and Kevin. And de Leon couldn't accuse you of being a racist. Whether you would make a difference or not, I really don't know. But I think enough people know you where it could at least make a small difference. And if it is close, that could make the difference.

Kevin has a Assembly seat. But who gets his endorsement will have Nunez support.
