Monday Hotsheet at 3 a.m.

Joseph Mailander
a guy in laelsewhereemail

The former fishwrap of record fluffs Prop S from the news side, with a story about how it's Bratton, not the Mayor, who is now the point person for the proposition. Somehow that's an election eve story, rather than how the City has been obliged to go to the mat for Prop S despite having gamed the opposition nearly right off the table with illicit tactics. No mention of the "economic emergency" status that lowered the bar.

The Daily News does a little better, talking about the dire straits the City would find itself in were S not to pass. Nobody from the opposition side is quoted, though.

Today is Eric Garcetti's birthday; he's 37. It's also mine; I'm 51.

How pathetic this city is in a "so called" State of Emergency" and it seems the only ones campaigning to help push S to win is Bratton and the fire chief Barry. What the hell happened to all the politicans and the Mayor? I hope it fails big time to teach them a lesson.

Not one moron council member or the gang banger mayor has campaigned for Prop S.

.......There has been some grumbling over the campaign for the measure, which the mayor has kept under tight control and in which Police Chief William Bratton and Fire Chief Douglas Barry have been the public faces for the measure. That's because there has been no significant outreach to business groups, homeowner groups or neighborhood councils and City Council members have been noticeably absent in any campaigning.

In fact, some council members said they were told to allow the Mayor's Office to control the entire message on the matter.

NO LEADERS IN THE CITY IF THE MAYOR TOLD THEM TO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE I BET THEY WOULD.

Bratton has enough clout to have said no. Lost a lot of respect for him over this one. Thought he was a leader.

Yeah, he'll say he is trying to save the budget. What a bunch of...

And did you notice how the new ads for Prop S say only that it's "closing a corporate loophole."

Really?

So Prop 218, which requires voters' approval for tax hikes, is a "corporate loophole?"

Or is everyone who uses wireless, DSL, text-messaging, etc. an evil corporation, cheating the dedicated civil servants out of their money?

One man suggested to me that, since the "Yes on S" campaign lies so much, we should do the same thing. He said we should put up posters saying "Vote No On S -- Don't Let Child Molesters In Our Schools."

We don't need to pass any new taxes to pay for more cops. We just need to deport all the illegal alien mexicans back across the border.

This would quickly save billions of dollars which we spend providing services for mexicans, who should not be here in the first place. I don't understand why we pay taxes to spend on public services for illegal aliens.

25% of jail inmates in California jails are illegal aliens, and an even larger percentage are in schools. If you go to the L.A. county hospital you see illegal aliens receiving medical care at U.S. taxpayers expense.

More jobs and less gang members if we just invite an an army of INS/ICE agents to Los Angeles.

NO jobs and free services and the illegal mexicans will go back home. This worked in Colorado and will work here.

Maybe there is not too much Prop. S talk by council and their disciples because it was based on the continuing misrepresentation, deception and self-serving nature of the city government here.

Maybe they want to step back from it and not get splashed by the slime it carries as more people can see that they were being taken for fools.

Better management might have saved on some expenses. More taxing is not the only solution. Wait to see how strong the grip is going to be on the city cars when returning them is actually requested.

BTW, on illegal immig- illegal "anybodies" not just Mexican would be the offenders; and Mexican d/n = "illegal" as the shorthand poster's message might suggest. How is status determined? Visual Observation? Hmm.

Work on ENFORCEMENT of existing law- employment of "illegals" is being done by WHOM? Eliminate that lure and it would go a long way to changing the picture.

"S" probably passes, and perhaps by a big margin. But maybe we will all be especially fortunate to see Prop. 93 get shot down? Sure hope that this goes down in flames....

The Daily News also has a story about how Alarcon is pushing through the Las Lomas project over huge resident opposition -- 5000 homes vs. 250, and he came up with a way to circumvent the city blocking it by taking money from them to do the EIR. Now Rocky says because that money changed hands the city can't try to block it. Greig Smith says otherwise and these two are generally at war. (Look at how Alarcon went at Smith over the NC council file issue -- calling him names in City Council.)

Daily News lists contributions to Alarcon from the Las Lomas developer but more importantly, the lobbyist for the project is Alatorre, and a chief beneficiary, Alatorre's former employee. Who are the Council allies on this? Reyes, the other Hispanic on the Council who's as far left and openly pandering to his illegals as Alarcon is, and Huizar. Before they came along, the city blocked the project by using CEQA. (Reyes doesn't care about the impact on air quality or lifestyle when it comes to "the rich" -- he's the one on the Council pushing to build "affordable housing" units all over the pricier parts of the city with NO parking spots, for his people.)

Kerry Cavanagh and Beth Barrett may have something to pursue here, with Greig Smith's help... Hey, Valley Doll, aren't you behind this one?

C'mon we all know Richard Alatorre is the biggest coke head and crook in this city. Yet, he's being paid to be Antonio's political consultant as well. Isn't that a conflict of interest. Dig deep reporters and you will see a big connection between Alatorre, Antonio, Huizar all in bed with the developers of Wyvenwood and the housing corruption that went on in Estrada Courts. Why haven't the reporters done their homework and really do a story on all that corruption?
