Sunday Morning Mimosa

Obama is within MoE on all national polls, with momentum. Also within MOE in California. Zogby even has Obama by four, OUTSIDE MoE.

[Reminder: delegates are awarded via a complex formula in California, which is promising for Obama, as Clinton banked on winning heavily-Latino districts early on. But enough delegates are awarded for winning the popular vote in the State to assure that neither candidate could win the State vote but lose the delegate count.]

Why did the California Field poll have so many undecideds in Obama-Clinton? Eighteen percent in late Jan.? You presume that is breaking Illinois' way.

Ancien Régimes are jumping the shark, and not just on the right: MoveOn's endorsement of Obama barely scored a blip on blogosphere radar screens.

Locally, there is nothing more to do on Prop S. Walter Moore should simply start proclaiming victory now, as the proposition is certainly going to slip under 66% YES, which is the usual hurdle for a tax measure. Had not the City gamed the election as an "economic emergency" in the middle of granting pay raises, the Proposition would have certainly been defeated. Expect a court challenge.

you're exactly right on one count here for sure: Prop S will slip in under the 66%.
it actually wins at 50.00001 so I'd be happy for it to slip in around 58 or 59.

thanks for the endorsement.
in effect.

If you think Prop S has been anything but a crushing defeat for Antonio, you may be wrong.

Anytime you see an alleged Democratic "star" begging T. Boone Pickens for money, you know something's gone way wrong.

If Prop. S passes or not, the council will continue the search for something else to lay a tax upon based on two priorities-

PRIORITY ONE: STAY in a government political office, preferably an elected position- but appointee or staffer will do.

PRIORITY TWO: MAXIMIZE the money that comes in for you or your boss to handle- campaign funds, tax dollars- just get more. Then get back to PRIORITY ONE.

wasn't the emergency situation the specific reason for getting it on this presidential ballot, rather than a regular scheduled city election day?
can someone confirm again the actual reason why this measure is also only a 50% yes requirement.

Prop S will pass or fail based on 50% plus or minus 1 vote.

The two-thirds majority is required only for: i) property taxes, which is why Measure H (subsidies for developers, er, "affordable housing") failed; and ii) special taxes, i.e., taxes where the proceeds are earmarked for a particular purpose (e.g., police or fire).

Prop S is a general tax, which means the money can be used for anything, such as calligraphy, Villaraigosa's road trips, sphincter-control lessons, etc. Therefore it needs only 50% plus one vote to pass.

So please make a point of voting and telling your friends to vote "no" too.
