Wake The Fuck Up

The shot was fired across the bow - this time by old, gasbag Richard Kind looking Grieg (where the hell do you get an I in Greg anyway?) Smith who decided to play hardball with the City's neighborhood councils.

That shot fired was the first in the revolution that will be called Secession II: This Time It's For Real.

Are you tired of shady developers, crooked non-profits, selfish public employee unions and politicians who suck at their teats?

Are you tired of immoral low life politicians like Antonio Villaraigosa or fellow Mirthala banger Fabian Nunez, blowhards like Zev, Dennis Zine, Rosendahl, Janice Hahn, Jan Perry or even George Bush (throwin in to be fair)? Or weasels like Garcetti or Weiss?

More importantly are you tired of being taxed to death like trash fees that really don't pay for more cops? Or does your blood boil when politicians like the Mayor bring you shady ways to increase the amount of money you have to take out of your hard earned pay checks with out and out (probably illegal) scams like the phone tax?

It's time to take a stand - secession now.

From the Valley to the South Bay to the West Side to the East Side. The Harbor, Hollywood, West LA, Los Feliz, CD14 and of course the Valley - lets be our own city and leave Downtown to the Mayor and Eli Broad to lord over.

Since the last round of secession, a lot of us "40somethings" got older, bought homes, started paying more taxes and started thinking less about partying and having fun (though those are important and in many ways our Clowncil does things to limit the partying in LA) and looking at our community.

Your spiritual leaders are 40ish hot PTA moms like Kim Thompson and Valley Doll and other no-nonsense folks on the cusp of the Baby Boom and Generation X like Walter Moore, Joseph Mailander and Zuma Dogg.

These are the people who have said enough of the nonsense. We are tired of developers being able to pay off Clowncil people to do what they want to our neighborhoods, we are tired of special intersests hijacking government and blowing money that should be spent on public safety, schools, roads and not things like calligraphy, Hollywood parades and fast food bans and most importantly we are tired of being ignored.

So all the rest of our peers - wake the fuck up. Turn off "A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila (I know. I watch it too but that's what TiVo is for), have one less latte and get out on the streets.

Its time to put this city out of it's misery. Or us.

PS: My dear friend Joseph Mailander in the past has expressed disdain for the use of vulgarities and I have the utmost respect for him. I tend to agree (though I often talk like a sailor) but sometimes only certain words can express the meaning you want). I beg his indulgence and forgiveness; he is for sure a far better man than I could ever hope to be.

my heart just started beating so hard, I thought it would burst from my chest.

I was hoping, praying, wishing the most excellent wish ever that maybe, just maybe ... we've been thrown together (unlikely allies, if you really think about it) to make this happen.

I'm ready when you are. I've got an audience for you if you'd like to cry "Havoc!" ...

I heart you bigger than the sky ...

You give Joe too much credit. He is truly one of the "blowhards" of which you speak, far worse than Zev, Dennis Zine, et. al. If you ask him for any level of detail about his half-baked "Yurt City," he will brush you off as a "staffer" and avoid the question.

At least Zev, Dennis Zine, et. al. have held public office. How does being a former bank teller and current Modelo drinker make you an expert on public policy? Does he even have a real job?

In sum, who the fuck cares if shitty Mailander thinks mutherfucking cussing is fucking inappropriate?

January 15, 2008 -- THE Democratic nomination for president will likely be decided by the subtle pulls of ego against duty that tug at the conscience of John Edwards. He manifestly can no longer win - but he helps Hillary Clinton if he stays in the race and boosts Barack Obama if he pulls out.

ANYWAY, Joe is one of the brightest guys out there. I'd love to see the best of the spin meisters or just general blogging dum dums out there debate him.

Better yet - let's have Antonio debate him let alone Leather Denny Zine, Sleeping Greig Smith or dumb as shit Bitter Bernie. Make no mistake about it puto - Joe would clean his clock in the first sentence.

Idiot.

This will show the residents of CD 12 how their council member Smith feels about them. No wonder his chief of staff got that worst staffer award. I feel bad for those neighborhood councils there. He must be scared of them or something. He was too scared about the money and bad people creeping in. I thought he was going to start talking about a vast neighborhood council conspiracy theory in his district or something today.

The one who should be ashamed is Alarcon. He should get the zuma dogg "Sinking the Civility at City Hall" Award.

What should it be...A statuette of the mutt himself, in ski hat and sunglasses, and a rumnpled old coat, mouth wide, wide open: and when you push the bobblehead, it screams (or rather raps) THAT'S SHADY, Y'ALL!!! HOODY HOO!!!

Alarcon gets a special edition.

Very funny Higby...

Secession comes around about every 20 years. I for one, will not be involved like I was the last time.

I am a Dem and it was me, 3 or 4 other Democrats and an entire Valley of Republicans.

Now, the Democrats think I'm too conservative, the Republicans think I'm too liberal and the truth is I'm just too logical. Logic doesn't work in Los Angeles very well. City Hall frowns on it.

Wouldn't the area planning commissioners named by the Mayor (usually chosen though by the Council member) be more of a reason for secession?

I do wonder what kind of council files that Greig thinks we are going to initiate around here. My NC board doesn't have any money..if they do, I'll be shocked. So it must be something else. I'll have to think about that.

Valley Doll - you crack me up. I'm picturing you on the secession bandwagon. What energy! I can tell you who to hook up with, that's for sure. I know where the old secessionists are all hiding..waiting for the next movement to come around.

January 16, 2008 12:37 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

And remember, during the last movement, over HALF of the secessionists called it sucession. That didn't go over very well with the average person who knows the difference between secede and succeed. I know it's only spelling, but if you're going to get on the campaign, come on.. learn to spell it.

Not wanting to be a spelling/grammar nazi, but it did kind of look bad.

January 16, 2008 12:41 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

You guys are all in a circle jerk.

No one thinks that secession could work, and all it will do is give the developers and payers one more opportunity to ingratiate themselves with the power group at City Hall.

As an unplayed card, it got the Valley a lot of extra police and other services. As a played card, it was trumped by business as usual.

Give it up, Higby; secession is about as possible as your idol, Mayor Herttzberg.

January 16, 2008 2:14 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

I could see why scession would not be passed with a Mayor like Hahn. However, with a low life Mayor like Antonio I'm positive the Valley can now pass secession because he won't have the backing

Sneaky having all those lobbysits in council chambers going against NC's.

January 16, 2008 6:36 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

NC should have to file a form 700. If you're going to have the power to introduce legislation, then you should have to comply with the City ethics rules.

What's the problem with that? Without the disclosure requirements, it's the NCs that get real real shady.

January 16, 2008 7:18 AM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Actually 6:36, Secession did pass in the Valley. It was the rest of the City where it didn't pass. Remember - Hahn invested serious money into making sure it didn't pass city-wide.

So the only way the Mayor could stop the movement (if there were one) would be to funnel money into an anti campaign.

January 16, 2008 9:38 AM

One who knows,

Circle Jerk is a band that my 13 year old listens to.

I don't think anyone here really thinks secession would work. The secessionists didn't think it would work back in 2002. But it's fun to think about.

How can you be one who knows if you think that secession would give developers more opportunity to ingratiate themselves with the power group at City Hall?? That proves you don't really know because they ARE the power group at City Hall.

It got the Valley more police? More services? Please define that.

Hertzberg will never have a chance to be our Mayor. Not in the Valley and not in the whole City. It just won't happen. He's too weird. I'd venture to say he's kind of spastic. But he has money..

And as for the VICA comment, they were so infused in the secession movement, it really did scare many people off. The average voter hates what VICA stands for but they've never heard of VICA. And they're the average business owners. VICA is evil and they're self-interested and self-serving promoters of the almighty dollar at any expense.

If I were a multi-millionaire, I would join VICA, give them lots of money, give every community some little thing that they could ooh and ahh over and push through every project that I want and I'd demand VICA take a stand against things I don't want. It would be awesome. I would pick the chairs and every time I heard a rumbling, I'd just throw some money at them until they shut up. Like breast feeding a baby.. When they won't shut up, stick a teat in their mouth and they're back to sleep in 5 minute so you can get back to your own business.

Brendan Huffman is a weenie. He's a pathetic soul out there fighting to get his wife elected to Wendy's seat. Imagine the consequences of having a council person married to the chair of VICA! Their idea of big business is Coldwell Banker Realty or any developer... Who gives them money.

It doesn't seem the 700 form has hurt any of them. Not even the council people. Like everything else in the City - it's all about the enforcement. So big deal, a NC member gets caught voting on a development when his wife is part owner of the property and he stands to gain a few million. What happens? Oh right..nothing. The Ethics Commission eventually finds out and you bad NC member must pay a fine and get a reprimand.

Much ado about nothing. Except the fact that the NC's got screwed and the bad part is, the entire City Council could have told you that before you even went down there. THAT is how the City works. Learn it.

Write on..

Kim I had you down to be Mayor this time. :)

I always know when we're getting a MEAT attack because the Hertzberg card comes up.

Yea - succession - dumb. Can these people spell REVOLT?

One thing to think about with respect to secession this time as opposed to last time back then we had:

1) No Villaraigosa
2) Neigborhood Councils just getting started
3) Development had not yet taken off like it is now

All three of those are lightning rods.

And since the areas like the Westside, Hollywood, etc. that voted against secession before now have NCs and are dealing with all kinds of quality of life issues that were not as prevalent then as now, they might actually see how the city is screwing them. They've had a taste of getting involved and their views have likely changed.

And yea - we don't need old gasbags from VICA, Valley Vote (whose latest report on what good they've brought about since secession is that Tom LeBong gives out free calendars - woo hoo!), etc. leading this train. It has to be the PTA moms like Kim and Valley Doll, smart guys like Jack Hoff, etc. who know how to make things happen as opposed to sitting around and talking about how they used to make pancakes with the Rotary Club in Reseda (not hating on the Rotary Club this time around we need action not old school talk and goofiness).

they are asking you to do the same thing that they as councilmembers, their STAFF and other elected officials do.

It offers a level of protection for the public. What's so wrong with wanting to protect the public from unscruplous members of neighborhood councils.

Even you have targeted unscrupulous NC members on this blog. Don't we deserve protection from them?

Or do you have something to hide?

Valley Doll's incomprehensible response? She ignores 8:56's offensive remarks in favor of attacking the nice blogger defending her friends as "lose air."

Then, when it is pointed out, Valley Doll's answer is either a lie, or an indication that she couldn't read the blog.

Well, then, is Valley Dope a phoney? Or simply encumbered with lousy reading comprehension skills? Might she be a phoney and encumbered with lousy reading comprehension skills?
