The year is, mercifully, almost done. And it turns out that we're not growing as fast as the politicians keep telling us we are, the Daily News says.
All through 2005 and 2006, and for most of 2007, City Councilpeople and the Mayor validated any new project, from affordable housing to forty-unit spec condos, by telling us that "growth was a fact of life." But the truth is, to paraphrase Yogi Berra, that it's getting so crowded that nobody lives here anymore.
This is perfectly consistent with the LAUSD overbuilding at a time the District was losing pupils. And in some cases, the perps are one in the same.

The Daily News has another great stocking-stuffer: two schools don't have sufficient majorities to join the Mayor's mini-District. So the Mayor's office backpedals: "'And although an overwhelming majority of the Jordan High School community demonstrated clear support for the partnership, without a broader desire from teachers for change, reforms would have been unlikely to succeed,' said Janelle Erickson, a spokeswoman for the mayor."

But who is the Mayor of Los Angeles anyway? H. David Nahai or Tom LaBonge?
The DWP is paying for its own security at the Mulholland Fountain. Even though they
can't keep the lights on in Los Feliz in adverse weather -- and for the DWP, any weather is adverse weather -- they're staffing security guards at the Mulholland Fountain round the clock, to protect it from taggers. Word is, LaBonge called the DWP and told them to do it, as he considers the fountain worthy of protection.Couldn't they just park an empty cop car in front of it?
In LaBonge's district, Atwater Bridge and the Shakespeare Bridge, both of which are far more beautiful (and far more useful) than the monument to Fuzzy Bill get tagged all the time.
In that same precinct: so bicyclists yammered for a decade about building a bridge over Los Feliz Boulevard (top photo), and it got done. How often do you see someone actually using it?

Finally, the Former Fishwrap of Record struts its new stuff: in the first official day of the Sam Zell Times, a coupla scribes attack Fabian Nuñez for legislating while Democrat and call it news.

Interesting LaBonge has security at the fountain, but does nothing about the homeless living in motorhomes on the parking lot just south of the fountain. Also, Riverside Dr is lined up with dilatidated motor homes from Loz Feliz to Fletcher Dr, becoming a homeless encampment. Vehicles cannot park for more than 72 hrs in one spot, but those are always there. There are a few more on Riverside Dr near the Stadium Way road, also. Guess tagging is a bigger problem? One that is easily fixed by a pressurer washer and anti-graffiti coating, but several dozen broken down motorhomes are invisible??

Furthermore, it is a sign that there is not enough housing in our great City of Los Angeles and we must create more lucrative incentives for developers who are willing to step forward and build more housing for the Great Citizens of the Great City of Los Angeles.

Mexicans don't have more sex, they just have more unprotected sex. It's also common knowledge that Mexican men EXPECT women to have sex with them whether they want to or not, whether they are prepared or not. 60 Minutes did a shocking story about a decade ago on how many children were living in landfills in Mexico City. When Lesie Stahl talked to parents she'd find they lived in the landfill for several years yet had very small children. She asked why on earth they would have a baby when they lived amidst garbage. The partially-toothed, leather-faced Mexican men grinned & said something in Mexican about "having more children makes you macho". Stahl got her ass ripped for running what "Latinos" considered a racist story. Facts are facts. Millions of poor Mexicans live in California in poverty conditions that include filth and lack of adequate nutrition. They know this. So why do they give birth to children who will suffer the same fate? I keep wondering why no one points out that this is child abuse. Now, with Fabuless Nunez & Arnold the Analator trying to shove universal health care down our throats, they'll have even MORE reason to come here and have even MORE kids. Nunez will have himself automatic voters in 18 years when all those anchor babies can vote him into the Presidency, all because the rest of the populace was too lazy to do anything to vote down his dumbass legislation. It's not enough that he may be out of office after this year. He can do a lot of damage before he leaves. Write Sacramento and say NO TO NUNEZ HEALTH PLAN. It's a start anyway.
Re: Population story. Facts are clear that we are losing educated, skilled workers. Facts are also clear that the population increase consists only of immigrants & in-state births. Mexicans make up the vast majority of Californians. Mexicans have more children than any other ethnic group. Guess who most of those "in-state births" will turn out to be? Guess who most of the incoming foreign immigrants will be? I think it's too late for California, I planned to move to the Bay Area next year. But I don't think that's far enough. I'll be joining that exodus out of state. Vermont is looking pretty good right now.

The pressure water and anti-graffiti coating doesnt work. I would prefer to have six motorhomes(not broken down) that move every 72 hours than graffiti any where.

actually, I've never seen anyone ride on the bike bridge, but I am sure that a few do. What a waste of public funds and it's sooooo ugly. Maybe that's why no one rides on it.

Yes..I remember that 60 Minutes piece on Mexican landfills. But that was 10 years ago and all of those illiterate impoverished Mestizos are probably living in L.A. now...collecting welfare, having 10 more kids, living 15 to a room, and destroying our city.
Yes...we will destroy Nunez's healthcare plan ...there will be no funding since the State is bankrupt.
And we will not give Nunez another term. The voters in CA are finally awake now and next year the elections will be akin to a 10 point on the Richter scale! WE ARE FED UP!!! And Shrillary will NOT be elected!!! Mitt Romney will be the next President of the USA!
