The Mayor Sam Awards 2007
Forget the Oscars. Lose the Grammys. Give up on the American Music Awards. Its time for the First Annual "Sammies," handed out to those Angelenos who distinguish themselves in dubious categories.The first round is for you to make nominations under the categories listed below. You have until Sunday, December 23rd. I'll sift through the nominations to find 3-5 nominees per category.
Following your nominations, every reader will have the opportunity to vote for the winner in each category. Whoever gets the most votes wins, pure democracy, that is unless we find you somehow gamed the system.
On Monday, December 31st, we'll announce the winners. Then you can celebrate your victory all New Year's Eve long.

Whether you think the impact is bad or good, Hands down from this blogg Zuma Dogg - How many times have you ever heard of a city council trying to take legal action against a constituent and have them banned for more than a year.

He's managed to publically humiliate his family and mistress while still managing to scr@w the City of Los Angeles. How virile, what energy, what a stud! If we could only have a pecker tax.

The Mayor shaking up LAUSD and being willing to be the guy who puts action where his mouth is, is the gutsiest move of the year. Even if that judge Dzindra Javitz screwed the city by shooting down his plan to take over the whole damn sunken ship and get at least some of it to float again.
Yeah, laugh, but even the anti-Mayor Daily News is encouraging him to take over what he can, what idiot would support the status quo besides the UTLA and some illiterate parents who have been brain-washed by those teachers? Only 10% of the parents showed up at some of these schools to vote, and the teachers want to overturn the votes because status quo is good? Failure is better?
Even though I think LAUSD is so dead someone ought to just stick a fork in it and feed it to the poor.
Then give the LAUSD monies to very small, locally controlled, concerned and active neighborhood groups so we can have local schools and some pockets of excellence for a change.
After putting local schools in order the same people will roll up their sleeves and branch out into the poor and ethnic hoods to work with those parents to do the same.
The Mayor sinking all his resources into the worst schools is hopeless.
But remember, this wasn't his first choice -- if he'd had the whole city under control we'd all have a voice and be on the way to hope.

The only reason the Mayor wanted to takeover LAUSD was to use it as a stepladder to governor plus siphon LAUSD money into his friends’ pockets and his own. If he doesn’t have any kind of respect and sensitivity for his family, do you think he is going to care about LAUSD students? Don’t be naïve.
