Best hit piece to come out of the "BLUE MUD BOWL" between Jose Huizar and Alvin Parra was this mailer.Some in the political community still debate whether the likeness depicted on the mailer resembles Huizar Chief of Staff Joe Avila or Alvin, you decide.

That would be great if each and every council district got their own thread like that. Unfortunately not all of the districts have someone to write them like CD 14 has Red Spot.

Robert Urteaga is more of a joke than anyone in office right now. Urteaga, Alatorre and Greigo otta get together and make sweet sweet love in their jail cells where they all belong.
How about an award for the Most Useless Field Office? I remember when the field office actually helped people. Their so busy planning Huizar's Winter Wonderland and the new Marsha chick being a complete bi-atch to the community that their useless when somebody needs something other than a Huizar photo for a banner or needs 5 minutes of their time!

The Homer Parra mailer is a piece of real CD14 election history though. Worth the prize for sure.

Henry Casas couldn't have been fired. I've been acquainted with him throughout the years at DPSFV and electeds he has worked for.
I think he's a great staffer and I can't imagine why he would be fired.

Ok I don't even like Huizar but c'mon not fair at all to put up a thread just for him. What about the others who are just as bad and don't care about their districts? I'v heard there are other council members who get rid of or lose just as many staffers in one year.
I don't care about Huizar, one way or the other, but what happens in CD 14 doesn't happen in other districts.
The district does justify the added attention. But it is true that other districts deserve added scrutiny, as well.
Much of it has to do with the people in the district, too. Since they have been screwed more than others, they need to fight back more than others.

Ask yourselves why the county side of LA is clean and there are no vendors yet, once you cross the city side the city looks like one huge dump especially in the districts of Huizar, Reyes and Perry. Rosendahl, alarcon, Cardenas, Hahn and the rest have districts cleaned up of illegal vendors. downtown looks like a 4rd world country and the Eastside is just like Tijuana and Huizar does nothing about it. Why can Molina keep on top of the illegal vending so much better?
First there isn't as much of a problem to deal with in the first place in the county, as opposed to the city, where people actually expect things of their government and where there's a much bigger problem with illegal vendors and all sorts of other issues than in the county overall.
And since the county doesn't actually have to DO anything with the money it pilfers from the state and from residents, the county can pay whatever it takes to keep things all nice and tidy.
The City on the other hand, has a lot of shit to do with very few resources and has a lot of people to answer to for things that affect daily living.
Gloria Molina wouldn't know a real challenge if it hit her in the (very large) ass. Why do you think she wanted to go for a cushy county job instead of sticking with the city? You choose -- do less with way more, or do more with way less.
Go buy a sausage from a street vendor, will ya? Then go to a county health clinic and see what kind of excellent "county style" service you can count on from your rude, civil service heroes in the County government. Good luck, sucka.

The last comment is true. The County Supes have the most money to spent and waste with by far the least accountability and visibility.
How else would Yvonne Burke have gotten away with living in Brentwood all these years, instead of within her own district, in a shell of a condo? With a city paid driver paid to drive her to and from the sham?
How else would Zev get away with lobbing grand ideas like grenades into the city -- his anti-development, self-styled "revolution" to lead the people's reaction to what HE started as a CM for 16 long years, his radical Pico-Olympic one way plan, which the Mayor, Weiss, and their allies the Bev Hills Mayor and others are taking the heat for refining and imlementing, after a year of hearings and still hostility from the never-happy NIMBYs "but fix my traffic problems now" crowd...

The City Council does indeed have a lot more visibility, accountability and obligations with far fewer discretionary resoursces.
If the Daily News and other papers weren't so lazy, they'd go out and look at the Supes and County instead of just sitting in City Hall all day, bugging the CMs.
But until recently, the Supes have gotten away with allowing public ocmment only once every 3 months per person.
We need closer scrutiny of the Supes, their methods and budgets.
Lord help us, if Bernie gets in there. And Ridley-Thomas is a nice guy, but some say a spendthrift.

Councilman's staffer arrested
The deputy chief of staff for City Councilman Jose Huizar was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, authorities said Monday.
Henry Casas, 40, Huizar's deputy chief of constituent outreach, was booked in lieu of $50,000 bail at the LAPD's Van Nuys jail on New Year's Eve, authorities said.
He later posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 23.
Police officials did not provide details of the incident, including the relationship of the alleged victim to the council aide, but confirmed that the arrest took place at his San Fernando Valley home.
In a statement, Huizar said he had placed Casas on paid administrative leave until the investigation is resolved.
There may have been turnover in Huizar's office, but with the current Casas situation, how does Huizar not replace him? This is about having staff that set the right example.
If the charges against Henry Casas are true, something has to be done. There is too much domestic violence in our community to let our elected officials condone this type of behavior.
This is ridiculous that Huizar did not issue a stronger statement against domestic violence. It looks like he is paving the way to let Casas stay right where he is.
I recommend we all e-mail Henry Casas at Henry.Casas@lacity.org. Call the main office at (213) 473-7014. The Boyle Heights office is (323) 526-3059. The El Serreno office is (323) 226-1646. The Eagle Rock office number is (323) 254-5295.
We must all call the office of Councilmember Huizar and voice our protest that in a time of economic emergency, how do you have someone with the title of "Deputy Chief of Staff, Community Affairs" representing our communities. Coucilmember Huizar, represent our communities and immediately speak out against domestic violence. Immediately remove or transfer Casas away from the public and where victims can view him.
The women of your district will not be represented by such individuals. As a woman, I have to put up with abuse at home and now in the public.
I am assuming Casas can not stay. He has the title of "Deputy Chief of Staff, Community Affairs'. That means people have to have confidence in him. Public representitives have to be better. We pay their salary.
Has anyone heard if Casas has left. There should be an investigation as to why he is still on the City payroll.
