AND NOW...From the soap opera, "As The Revolving Door Turns"...The Saga of Jose Huizar's Office. (It should be a reality show, like "Flava of Love" or "Hell's Kitchen". Who will be his only remaining staffer? Here's the sixteenth staffer to revolve out the door this season/year. I guess Jose is no fan of Dr. Deming.)
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am writing to let you know that after two years in the office of Councilmember Jose Huizar, I am leaving CD14 to join the office of School Board President Monica Garcia as Policy Director, beginning October 1st.
It has been a tremendous joy and privilege to work with so many bright, dedicated, and passionate people, both here in City Hall and out in the community. I will miss collaborating, day-to-day, with many of you, but I am hopeful that our paths will cross in efforts to improve the quality of public education here in Los Angeles.
I am delighted that my successor, Peter Hidalgo, has joined CD14 today. Peter comes to the Council office from Southern California Gas Company, where he served as Communications Director; previously he was Press Secretary for Mayor Richard Riordan. I know Peter will be a fabulous addition to the team and will enjoy working with all of you as much as I
have.

Isn't it possible there are just some odd ones in that district in general? There's one guy who keeps going to the Council to complain about stuff, Huizar keeps standing up and saying his office has addressed those things but the guy has still more stuff.
Don't know what's what there, but it sure seems odd all around. Also, a lot of these staffers never intend to stay, just want to have some "government experience" on their resume then go back to school or get a lobbying job. My Valley district has similar problems. Every time I call it's someone else, and they're always young.
Man talk about hitting the skids - Hidalgo was a major poobah for Metrolink and SCG and now he's going to work for Weezy????

Snyder, Alatorre, Pacheco had long time staff associations. Why does everyone leave Huizar? Thirteen people in one year? Something is very wrong!

Here's a shocking thought, but what if Huizar is actually more honest and less likely to throw staff dubious bones than his predecessors like Nick Pacheco (wasn't he linked to those building permit problems), Alatorre, and the rest?

You have more faith in Huizar than I. I dont think he "threw" anything to the staff members who left. Remember that you are giving up a hell of a lot of money when you quit. Huizar's staff did not
leave on good terms in most cases.

Why that's odd! I found out from a couple of Huizar's staffers there was no minimum requirement. All that's required of you is a driver's license, and enough money to keep the rest of his staff fed.
We all know there is no minimum job requirements at CD14. It all depends on how happy you make Huizar. If he's happy you stay..if he's not happy you move. If you move because he is a bast### you get a bad reference. Still think that 16 people leaving, willingly or not is a lot for any boss!

what about the reat of the council districts? everytime i turn around in my part of LA i see the same thing. Young kids coming and going not only in the field offices but in city hall too. Cant we just pay them more or make them civil service jobs so we dont have so much turnover? residents of LA revolt against ALL council districts and demand civil servants
i think all these haters are former employees or maybe the Mayor himself trying to take the heat off himself

Word is Huizar treats his staff like slaves. He acts like he's king shit and they have to bow to his every command. Because he wants to kiss ass to everyone his staff are the ones putting in long 18 hr days. They start working for him looking young and vibrant then after a couple of months they look stressed and over worked. They go to community meetings in bad moods because Huizar gives them the dirty work. He's an asshole and the community can't stand him. He caters to Eagle Rock but that's it. There's no stability with Huizar and when you look at other council members staffers they don't have that same type of negative attitude. They're in good moods, love the community and vice versa and stay for two or more years. Huizar needs training in Calif. State Labor laws since he's an attorney

This type of turn over IS a real problem. Not only is it financially inefficient to have such high turnover; you can't get any momentum going as a "team" with the experience and historical perspective that empowers a staff. (How can Huizar expect his staff to meet his expectations when there is such high turnover, he must be surrounded by newbies, still learning the ropes of the gig -- they work in fear because they know about the high turnover themselves, and who gets screwed:
THE PUEBLOS OF CD 14, that Huizar couldn't care less about.
For some reason, I've always liked Weezy, cause he's kinda charming and "cool" for a CM -- it seems like he could turn this situation around, based on his own attitude to a large extent. It's called being a leader. And if you run for council, then you should try and be one.
Weezy SHOULD be the COOLEST CM to be working for, and the gig EVERYONE in City Hall wants, cause he makes it fun -- and it's such a tight-knit community, there is opportunity for the MOST CD greatness.
