This morning, we are obliged to turn over the 3 a.m. Hotsheet exclusively to a sole item in today's fishwrap of record:

Let it be noted at the very top: the Times tries to cover a story on the impact of blogs on local governments without even listing the web address of a single blog.
Isn't that just special? Maybe going forward local bloggers should talk about Times articles without linking them either. Nah---we're not that petty.
Next up: which blogs will the fishwrap cover as aim-takers of City governments? Blogdowntown, CurbedLA, LukeFord.net, LAObserved, even MayorSam? Nope. Jonathan Abrams has to venture far into the suburban hinterlands---Pomona, Claremont, Grand Terrace---to find blogs that have an impact on local governments.
And how does Jonathan characterize these blogs?
OMG. How 1999. The Internet: an unreliable, anonymous, spooky place, filled with libel and bad practices, and danger lurking in the shadows.
I was talking to a longtime publisher of a great east coast magazine about two weeks ago. I knew the mag's reputation for going after civic leaders, and asked if it ever got sued for libel. "Oh, about six times a year," the publisher said. That's about six more times than all the most gossipy blogs in LA gets sued a year in aggregate.
I would certainly line up the reporting, the depth, the standards here at MayorSam, and at CurbedLA and LAObserved and blogdowntown, right beside those of the LATimes. The prose isn't better or worse at these sites, it's just different, mostly more conversational---but the range of issues covered is far greater. Anonymity is mostly a thing of the past for more evolved blogs. Blogs get tripped up by libel far less frequently than print does. And because their organizations are far flatter, the larger blogs, which are mostly edited these days, typically have far livelier, more heated discussions behind the scenes than possible with a draconian print editor who has her fingers on your paycheck as well as your copy. And we don't have to worry about space the way print does either, which makes print coverage "all the news that fits" and very suspicious when non-news so often fits in before actual news does.
But if the fishwrap of record feels it needs to venture far into the Evil Inland Empire to find the kind of frozen-in-time blogs it needs to make the point that blogs are unreliable, libelous, and anonymous---I think you, media-savvy dum-dum, can see what they're really trying to accomplish with such an article.
Which is, of course, why the fishwrap of record loses about 1,000-3,000 readers a month. At this point, nobody's really buying.

I found it interesting that the LA Slimes article didn't mention one local blog. And very interesting to have quotes stating about the libleous action which really is nothing since we can post anon. Wonder if they were trying to send us all a message? Its not going to work.

Free speech...freedom of expression...dissent, political discourse...no, the LA Times didn't mention any of these very important principles in support of blogs...it was more of a veiled threat to bloggers...you could be sued for defamation!...shameful!...I guess the message is your for free speech unless you don't like the speech that given...just like the article re fair comment...this is AMERICA!!! Freeedom of thought, expression and speech are the cornerstones to our demoncracy!!!...the LA Times article should have trumpeted the LA blogs are an important, new avenue for political discussions and discourse...it really is not important if they have an impact on politics or not...talk, talk and more talk is what is needed...and an anonymous talk has value...it's the ideas, the gossip...you've got to love it!!!...you read an article in the LA Times or Daily News and then you read a post with comments...it's like sitting around at Starbucks talking about the news events of the day!!!...it's like a upper division policial science course...yes, some bloggers are over the top...so what!!!
The LAT is like all MSM. They have been the effective tool used to manipulate, control and propagandize the people for a very long time. As more and more Americans are waking up to truth and are finding themselves at war with their government and the evil and corrupt individuals who control it, the machinery desperately continues to try to hold them in check with the same old tactics.
Certainly they have lots of incentive to try to denigrate and demonize anything out there that is disseminating truth and is bringing their empire down.
Blogs and other sources of "counterintel" certainly are not perfect, but the standards are, by and large, quite good out there. As for the bloggers who comment, well they are a mix and some certainly prove to have good input as well as useful inside information ... like any gathering of a group of people ... a wide range of useful contributions and just general "yakking".
They are on the run, they are in trouble, they are desperate. This is LONG overdue!

Do you know that they are so desperate to shut down the flow of information that McCain at one point had a bill floating around that would hold blog publishers responsible for the comments posted on their blogs? Even DiFi was so enraged and fearful following the Amnesty Bill debacle, she was on one news interview show, sweating and pearl-fumbling, saying that she was going to "look into" reviving that "fairness" legislation in an attempt to shut down talk radio. I tell you, they are all sh***ing in their pants!! All who love truth and freedom must be diligent ... you have powerful and evil enemies out there who are determined to find a way to stop you all!

Is true Alice Corona and Teresa Duarte, are known as the biggest whore in the Northeast of LA. Le me tell you her mentor/printer teach them all the moved and trick in the world. I have a question, Why did the printer told cetain individual to invest money on her Entertaiment Center? Why did certain businessman gave from 50K to 200K to her business. Is that implying that either we should fear the LA Times or that we miserable supplicants should crawl to the feet of the LAT Shrine to beg a blessing on our opinions?
