Next Election: May 15, 2007

I got my voter pamphlet, paged through it, and saw that I will be asked to chose between two people for the L.A. Community College District. That's it -- that's the beginning and end of the election. Yesterday I got a flyer in the mail from one of them -- Roy Burns -- and it seemed fairly reasonable, so he's getting my vote.
But enough about Roy. Let's talk about my platform:
My platform calls for, among other things, rescheduling our City elections to November, when we vote on everything else, not March and May. Furthermore, to avoid the expense of a separate run-off election, we should use a ballot that provides for an "instant" run-off. You would vote for your first, second, and third choices for a given office, so if no one gets a majority of the "first choice" votes, we can see which of the two front-runners gets the most "second choice" votes. Result? We avoid the expense and delay of a second election.
Many of the problems our city confronts require nothing more than common sense to solve. Holding wasteful, low-turnout elections is one of those problems.

holding a subsequent run off gives the candidates fair time to campaign and inform voters, who may have had no other choice in mind at the time of the initial vote.
furthermore, common sense sounds rational on this blog, but in reality, this is the City of Los Angeles, and correct me if I'm wrong, common sense don't exist when we're talking LA politics.

Walter, I have an idea for you...
Voter apathy is the reason we are in the mess we are in today. It's the reason the Mexican midget is destroying our city.
People do not go to the polls...so bring the polls to the people thru absentee ballots.
You would have to spend a good chunk of $$$ but when the time comes, you need to send letters to every living person in the city with the following info:
A thumbnail sketch of the criminal activities of the midget mayor, and...
Instructions on how to apply for and return the absentee ballot!
Don't forget...the Mexican midget only received a pathetic 289,000 votes! Out of 4M citizens!
Everyone is pretty much awake now and every non-hispanic (and many hispanics, I might add) want him OUT!!!
Absentee ballots can make or break you!
We're going to have a huge problem with voter fraud thanks to the criminal activities of the cholo mayor and his mafia. But we CAN AND WILL KICK HIS ASS OUT OF LA!
Just got the newest Tamar flyer. Actually 4 of them came today. I guess it's just politics but she advertises 10 "Valley Teachers" who support her. Shows their pictures and everything. See, as far as I can tell only 1 of them works for LAUSD. Rosemary Jenkins who works at Nobel Middle School and invited Tamar people into her room to campaign to a bunch of 8th graders. Got them to give Tamar their home addresses and phone numbers too. The rest are private or charter school teachers.
But hey, Valley Teachers support Tamar!

I wish we could kick the mayors ass out period. But the fact is whites do not support other Latinos who are not involved with the Latino Clowns that are already elected in the local and state level.
You want the CHOLO MAYOR OUT start from the bottom and work your way up. Keep these idiots around and bitching and complaining will not do any good until they are out of public service and/or interest.

we have 4 million residents, not citizens, and only a fraction of the them is eligible to vote, but the point is taken. do the census numbers include a fudge factor for illegal aliens? i've heard estimates that my neighborhood is over 60% illegal.

I have two reasons why I'm spending more than two million dollars' worth of other people's money to lie about Jon Lauritzen's record and replace him with someone who has zero experience;
1) Nobody with a kid actually attending LAUSD was willing to run;
2) Jon Lauritzen looks like a skinny Santa Claus. I don't like that. Santa Claus should be big and fat.

Some numbers for the racists to consider:
District 7 Where the Mayor's candidate Dick Vladovic will win - Overwhelming majority of the voters are white. The general population maybe more minority, but the voters tend to more educated than the general population and White.
District 3 nearly 90% of the voters are white and heavily republican.
I think your mexican mayor did worse in the area where Janice Hahn represents and where the republican councilman reside (CD 3& CD 12)
So you racists should let everyone know about the Mayor trying to takeover the schools -- i mean you have an inherent advantage plus with every blogger on here pontificating that the Mayor is toast and his numbers are so bad -- maybe this Tuesday will represent a referendum on the Mayor -- his takeover plan -- and his job as Mayor.
A win will mean ALL IS GREAT and WHITE people including republicans like him.
A loss will mean everyone on this blog was correct.
I am betting like usual everyone on this blog will be wrong.

Hey i just got a Jon Lauritzen mailer today -- and it says 42,000 teachers support Jon.
I mean how can that be?
Is it true UTLA is suing him because he is responsible for teachers not getting paid on time?
No, my friend, Jon has lied. Only 41,999 support him. Of course the one who supports Tamar might soon be an ex-teacher if she did what she's accused of.
I don't get why people here are veering into race, white, Latino, etc. Great people and awful people come in all colors. Color isn't the problem here. Color isn't the solution. Behavior is what we should focus on, the content of a person's character -- that sort of thing. Don't you agree?
I believe it is important that our school children be able to tell the difference between right and wrong.
And if they ever do learn the difference, boy, am I gonna be in trouble!
In the meantime, it's important that me, Bob Hertzberg and Tamar Galatzan spend as much money as possible to slam that brain cancer-surviving Skinny Santa on a daily basis and blame him for writing the $95M software, uh, computer payroll system and wanting a 600% raise when that was included in one of the measures I asked the voters to approve anyway.

Then you should have no problem defeating Tamar Galatzan.
41,999 -- means volunteers, money and most importantly votes.
Since District has the most teachers living in it then any of the other 7 districts.
Now if Jon loses, then perhaps a massive majority of those 41,999 teachers lied to you. I mean didn't a majority of your tenured teachers just sign up with Green Dot?

One election is November sounds great. The instant run-off was discussed before and would save more public money, save us from more hearing more lies/promises, and maybe make the transition time shorter and the victorious candidates, incumbents or challengers can get back on the job.
This might put a cramp the number of fund-raising opportunities of the politicians. You would expect them to raise a ruckus over that fiscal consequence, but not admitting that as a reason. Those weasels look for any opportunity to collect more campaign funds.
Stretching out the elections until there is a winner creates justification for major attention of the incumbents placed getting RE-ELECTED instead of just getting work done... and they don't need more excuses to waste more time. Maybe if they paid more focused attention to work instead of running for office they wouldn't make such bad decisions or feel the need to rubber-stamp so regularly.
A change in the system will be better to get all the voters out at one time, small group or large group, and be done with it.
On absentee ballots- it's already available with that notice on the sample ballots- fax or mail form by deadline and it's done. Any more hand-holding to get people to use an absentee ballot option (which can be made permanent) to get them to vote makes you wonder if you want them involved in voting.
