Who Should be the Gang Czar?

Witness LA has an interesting post as to who should take the post of Los Angeles gang czar, assuming the post ever be created.

Celeste Fremon recommends four individuals, and all seem like the usual suspects. Among Celeste's picks are Father Greg Boyle, attorney Connie Rice, convicted felon Martin Ludlow and anti-gang activist Bobby Arias.

If we are truly going to empower someone to fight gangs, it has to be a bold and outside the box pick. Therefore, here are this old, dead Republican mayor's own four picks:

William Jefferson Clinton - Yes, the former President. Clinton negotiated peace in Northern Ireland so I am sure he could do it in South Central. He is proficient at raising money and getting corporate support and would have an excellent rapport with both the gangbangers themselves and local Democratic pols. Besides, should Hillary win the Presidency, I doubt Bill will be serving tea at the White House.

Snoop Dogg - The former rapper has an alleged gang background of his own and has proven to be an adept businessman. As it has been said, only Nixon can go to China. Dogg has street cred, knows the territory and could come up real anti-gang solutions.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio - The Mariposa County, Arizona sheriff is known for putting inmates in pink underwear, on chain gangs and feeding them for less than two bits a day. If you want to go the ass kicking route, Sheriff Joe is your man.

Michael Trujillo - The "dark horse" candidate. After May, the former blogger turned campaign manager will have more time on his hands whether his client Tamar Galatzan wins or not. He's crafty, has political connections and knows how to go incognito.

I'd be glad to hear your nominations.

I have just stepped in and right on time, 'early'. What a strange but capable conception 'Sam' has about selecting his top 4. Not being able to identify with 50% of the group I would have to consider his opinion as valued, for the other 1/2 I stand and raise hands to start the wave...... YYYYYAAAAAA

It looks like we have to re-invent the wheel and go for extrodinary measures that press the boundaries of control. These are 'Social Groups' that are organized, agressive, and recruiting more youth than all the high density going up daily. So if we don't pick up on some of these hard hitters we will be stuck with same 'OL Captain KANGAROO' teaching the class of ROMPER ROOM~~~~> No Progress (It's like HEEEELLOOOOO send the 'Kindergarden Teacher').

It's already late for me, I bet there are hundreds of viable nominees..... just choose some one/any one soon, so the state can direct the city to a healthier, safer, more social environment with out fear of retalation. I went to the 'Senate Public Safety Committee' AND submitted a written statement. I want to paricipate in the resolution, just today an E-mail came in from a supervisor in the *G--g* Intervention program for Soledad Enrichment Action, (SEA)Inc. who will support me through a structure that is assertive and effective.

We have spent enough time and of course lots of 'dough' to talk about this every year. The youth are being drawn in a direction for guidence, lets show them Angelinos have pride...... keep the streets clean, keep up with the landscape maintenance, control grafitti, and 'encourage' greatness. (When they are young). The city streets and unnoticed land pockets look like 'Skid Row' has expanded to about 73% of the metropolis for the next generation. We live in a part of the "VISIT CALIFORNIA" that is not shown....... Dirty L.A.

That is a bigger problem than finding a ('Social Group' with negative impacts) CZAR.

He was thrown out of the church and now word is he's making up for lost time with the girls. So stop calling him Father. He supports gang bangers. Let's do an audit on his Homeboy and see where the corruption is. LA reporters should investigate.

The part of the program that interested me most was the segment on Father Boyle. By showing Father Boyle's story, then showing the officers' rebuttle of what he's doing; The program pretty much opened up a new can of worms.

It seems to me that police in that area believe Father Boyle is an enabler to the gangs, an apoligist, or...'an enemey within', to use good old fashioned 'war on terror' slang. Shit, THERE'S A CNN SPECIAL in and of itself! The L.A. County Sheriffs VS. Father Boyle. THERE'S as story.

“What Father Boyle doesn’t seem to grasp is that the gangster who has been indoctrinated into the gang culture since he was in the crib will never walk into Father Boyle’s office. Look at it this way: if your grandfather, father, all your uncles and all your brothers are in gangs, and the men your sisters and aunts marry are in gangs, and your cousins are in gangs, it would be a rare and courageous individual indeed who can turn his back on that and try to live a straight life.”

“So sure, Father Boyle never sees evidence of multigenerational gang membership. The overwhelming evidence, however, indicates the opposite to a degree he can’t imagine. The gangs aren’t just generational. They’ve spawned a self-sustaining alternate culture. Gang culture now has its own websites, music labels, magazines and social events. I urge Father Boyle to investigate some of this and he’ll see family albums of pictures with kids in diapers holding .380 pistols and wearing "south-side blue" rags. The tragedy is that by the time that baby handling the .380 for his baby album enters his teenage years, he’s probably beyond redemption and rehabilitation. His gangster parents have already scarred him so deeply that it would take nothing short of full-on brain-washing to get that kid back to normal. Is it any surprise that type of child doesn’t walk into Homeboy Industries? Or the nearest church, or Victory Outreach or any other outreach program?”

as to the gang problem its simple, when you have a surge of illeagles such as the white euros when they began their thiveriy of the native lands [chicano and native americans] it was only natural that the peoples would develoop clandestine bodies to combat them.
the french underground, the mafia[italiano] chicano movment, native peoples movement[lenard peltier]and such. persons like the mayor pushing for the injuctions along with rocky delgadillo and others throughout time have forgotten where they came. their success was won on the backs of those who thought and exspected to reap in the rewards but alas it was not to be. remember "si se puede" the chant the mayor and his people shouted out, yeah right fuck that shit. all frosting on shit wallyman. whats the cure? a lot of hard work and understanding and not seeking giant media coverage, just like father greg.

She's also a Father Gang Banger Greg Boyle groupie. However, this blog is completely different and it looks like she finally gets the point. Giving these gang bangers jobs won't work. Not when they can make $1,000's of dollars selling dope in a couple of days. Father Boyle's gang bangers fight inside his company all the time then it heads out to the street. School kids see the violence from his homeboys but the media doesn't report it. His Homeboy Industries is a sham!!!

"IF Celeste really wants to get to the heart of the gang problem since she's a reporter why doesn't she do her own audit of the gang programs? That would put her on the map."

Then, as now, politicians were making alliances with people with very dubious histories. Los Angeles had groups like LUCHA (League of United Citizens to Help Addicts), SPAN (Special Program for Alcholism and Narcotics), CCC (Community Concern Corporation) and the Get Going Project. All these programs had one thing in common. They were all being run by "reformed" criminals. The most notorious of these was Get Going located on 127 South Utah Street in Boyle Heights, just a few blocks from Hollenbeck station. Get Going was founded by Michael Delia, a convicted bank robber and associate of Jimmy "The Weasel" Fratianno and Jimmy Coppola, both Cosa Nostra operators. Delia was also an associate of several high ranking brothers. Get Going's most visible and vocal supporter was State Senator Alex P. Garcia. Garcia ran interference for Delia and greased the rails to get Delia government funding.

Gang Member-Turned-Writer in Custody
By JEREMIAH MARQUEZ
AP
LOS ANGELES (March 9) - An author who wrote a vivid book about gang life and is considered one of the city's most wanted gang members has been taken into custody, police announced Thursday.

Kody "Monster" Scott's arrest Wednesday was the third in as many weeks from a 10-most-wanted gang member list released about a month ago as part of a citywide crackdown on rising gang crime.

Scott, 43, was wanted in a burglary in December in which police say he broke into a home and a beat a man.

More than 300,000 copies of Scott's book, "Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member," are in print, according to publisher Grove/Atlantic Inc., and it has received praise for its raw portrayal of thug life. Filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, who directed "Training Day," also plans a movie.

Police Chief William Bratton told reporters Thursday that he had read Scott's book, along with several others about Los Angeles crime, shortly after taking over the department.

"I didn't like his book, and I didn't like him," Bratton said. "Now we got to put him back behind bars again."

Despite a conversion to Islam and a renunciation of violence, police allege, Scott maintains ties to the Eight-Tray Crips, an infamous Los Angeles street gang he claims to have started.

Scott previously served four years in state prison for armed robbery and possession of an AK-47 assault rifle, and remains on parole. Since being released in 1995, he has had other run-ins with the law, including an arrest on suspicion of fleeing police seeking to test him for drugs. He is also wanted as a material witness in a murder case, police said.

Authorities' quick work in apprehending gang members from the city's most-wanted list has raised questions among some experts.

On Friday, Steve Alex Garcia, 43, of the San Fers street gang was taken into custody after a three-day joint surveillance in Mexico. That followed the Feb. 21 arrest of Angel Zevallos, 22, an 18th Street gang member wanted for attempted murder, in Guatemala.

"Was this list strategically designed in a way that would bring success?" asked Alex Alonso, a gang expert who runs the Web site streetgangs.com. "It does raise a red flag that three people were caught so quickly."

Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vernon rejected that idea. He said the list was meant to represent a cross-section of gang members chosen from police bureaus around the city.

Scott's arrest came after an anonymous tipster spotted him in a South Los Angeles neighborhood, police said.
Uniformed and plainclothes officers converged on a home. After about 30 minutes, Scott showed up on a bicycle in what authorities said was a disguise. He allegedly tried to escape but then realized he was surrounded and gave up, police said.

"Scott has a reputation for running and fighting," police Detective Bill Mixer said. "We went to great lengths to contain the area and safeguard the neighborhood."

It was unclear whether Scott had retained an attorney.

Anyone with brains knows Father Gang Banger Boyle supports his gang members. When Celeste Fremon was dumb enough to be sucked in to his game she wrote a glowing piece about Tiny Boy gang banger criminal Luis Aguilar and his wife who worked for Boyle. Aguilar got busted and Boyle found him an attorney. Their kids have been taken away 4 times by child services. Now, the mom has been arrested again for drug possession. People should be asking what is Boyle doing with all that money. He has no documentation of success, NOT ONE ITNERVENTION GUY, he's also running a for profit business making money. He's a scam artist and Antonio won't touch him because the truth of the political corruption may come out with all the council members. When you have gang members from many different gangs around the city in a confined area you're asking for trouble. If Father Boyle is so great why is the gang violence still going on in the community? Cause if they respected Boyle they would stop. If Boyle is so great with his millions why is there still the worst gangs in CD14? Dolores Mission who has tons of illegals also get money that hwo they got 4 BRAND NEW VANS. Ask what do they do? And in an inadvertent enforcement initiative, the Social Security Administration in 2002 sent out almost a million "no-match" letters to employers who filed W-2s with information that was inconsistent with SSA's records.7 The intention was to clear up misspellings, name changes, and other mistakes that had caused a large amount of money paid into the system to go uncredited. But, of course, most of the problem was caused by illegal aliens lying to their employers, and thousands of illegals quit or were fired when they were found out. The effort was so successful at denying work to illegals that business and immigrant-rights groups organized to stop it and won a 90 percent reduction in the number of letters to be sent out.

Bratton's criticisms draw slap on the wrist...Police commissioners say his comments about L.A. council members did not rise to misconduct. The chief welcomes the decision.

(FIVE CRYBABIES ASSHOLES)
Five council members filed a formal complaint in July, alleging that Bratton engaged in a pattern of unprofessional conduct that raised questions about his ability to lead the Los Angeles Police Department.
(NO ONE KNOWS MORE ABOUT UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT THEN THE LOSERS IN COUNCIL. LOOK AT THE CIRCUS ON FRIDAYS)

Council members were particularly upset about comments the sometimes brusque Bratton had made on a television news program after Councilmen Bernard C. Parks and Dennis Zine complained about a change in the department's drug-testing policy for recruits. In response to a question, the chief said the council members — both former LAPD officers — "do not know what the hell they're talking about."

...Parks and Zine, council members Jose Huizar, Tony Cardenas and Jan Perry signed the complaint

"This means the commission determined that the accused employee ideally would have acted differently, but that his actions do not rise to the level of misconduct," Police Commission President John Mack wrote to council members.

"Zine and Huizar said Tuesday they were willing to put the matter behind him. 9THE BIGGEST PUSSIES WITH NO BALLS)

"I think what the chief said was inappropriate," Zine said. "But I think he has learned from this."
