Pay City Employees $2000 To Buy Hybrids?

By Walter Moore, Candidate for Mayor of L.A.

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors plans to provide incentives -- portraits of dead presidents -- to County employees who buy a new hybrid. The City of Riverside already gives its employees $2000 to buy a new hybrid.

Should the City of Los Angeles do the same? For the correct answer, visit my blog: MooreIsBetter.com.

Hint: the correct answer rhymes with "no."

first thing: City should take control of the freeway speeds inside city limits, and force the county to lower the speed back to 55.
net effect: people will zap around at 70 and not 80, before arriving at the next bottleneck.

since gasoline motor vehicles are MOST efficient at 60 mph, and 35-40% LESS efficient at 80pmh, it makes much more sense to me to have non efficient vehicles saving gas and emissions,by regulation and for free, than it is to PAY someone to buy one efficient vehicle.

Cows produce more pollution than cars by far. If people stopped eating meat, they'd help the environment more than buying hybrid cars. They'd lose weight, feel better and be healthier. That would then save money in medical expenses.

like I can really see Walter Moore picking up that platform. NOT.

the problem is that everything we humans do creates a nightmare for something else. plastic bags, energy generation, sewage disposal, radioactive waste, toxic computer parts, cigarrette butts, vehicle emissions, packaging, oil tankers, theres a great list of cause and effect problems we create. not eating meat strikes me as well down the list though of things I could do to prevent pollution.

Matt Dowd,

I know it sounds silly but it's true. Not eating meat is the most effective way to reduce pollution and global warming. And it's good for you.

"The largest source of air pollution in California is not cars, it's cows, and the methane gas they produce."

"Eating less beef is also a great way to reduce the effects of global warming. I know we're all excited that McDonald's just reopened downtown, but did you know that cows are one of the greatest emitters of methane, and that methane is a major greenhouse gas? Yep, because cows eat so much grass and have multiple stomachs they exhale methane with every breath."

"A few weeks later, the U.N. released a second report acknowledging that cows are now considered the greatest threat to global climate. In fact, the report states that livestock are responsible for 18 percent of all greenhouse gases that cause global warming – more than cars, planes, and all other forms of transport put together."

Looks like everyone here has something to say, (mainly taken as ideas) some far fetched and stated here for comedy purposes, and those that have 100% undersstanding. For the incentives($$$$$) every little bit helps, even if it is just having one of those little yellow stickers that let you drive in the carpool lane ~~~~> all by yourself.

*EFFICIENT CERTIFIED*

At least I am pleased to know that no one here is having an argument about 'IF' these Hy-brids are needed. Just ask the city to propose a mandate to the auto manufactures to mass prduce them already so my stock can reach the moon. (Much like the Federal regulation, State initiatives, PRAY for a city ordinance...... LOL HAHA

Incentive pay makes those in charge feel good. It gives them that "sense" of security, that they are motivating employees toward a goal. However, bonus and incentives (based on performance) are devicive. Deming was against it. (See "Interpreting Deming's 14 Points")

This is slightly different because it's not based on "performance" -- however, it is still nothing more than a "warm and fuzzy" feel good tactic.

And now they can tell people come election time, "We offer $2000 to all employyes who buy one of these hybrid cars." Vote for me, I'm enviro-friendly! (So then they don't do a damn thing else.)

Meanwhile, the guy who ISN'T getting the $2000 because maybe he can't get one of those cars -- ends up pissed off...And if you measure the change all of this will make, you probably can't even measure it. (Too small.)

So how about this...the people who want to offer incentive pay, against Deming and ZD's advice:

You can't FORCE society to do the right thing with bonuses, commissions, rewards, threats or incentive pay.

You have to do it through leadership. To start, an educational campaign as to the benefits of driving hybrid cars, if that's important.

The VEGAN guy has the point! YOU CANNOT ARGUE WITH THE MESSAGE. OF COURSE IT'S BETTER TO NOT RAISE AND SLAUGHTER ALL THESE COWS. Society is overboard with meat. I'm not saying you have to stop eating it...but common folks, it's overboad.

So should the govt. start paying people to eat cleaner food sources? I don't think you create real change that way. But if Vegan Man blasted the message in newspapers, TV, radio, billboards and internet -- more people would start to be conscious of the issue and start eating less meat -- or no meat at all like Zuma Dogg. And when did ZD stop eating things with legs? After a nutrition seminar. (AN EDUCATION CAMPAIGN.)

I wasn't even there for a "vegetarian education seminar", but after the even, somehow, I haven't eaten meat since. So that's how you create change.

Through leaders, who educate others and cause the change to bring transformation.

But that don't work if your only source of motivation is shady campaign contributions.

If elected Mayor, I'll serve.
And if Arnold gets a "cigar tent", ZD gets a "Prop 215 tent, y'all...or else I'll sue the City and have to take closed session with myself!)

I'm not a vegan "man" but a vegan "woman." We are doing a lot of education and outreach about not eating meat. We give away free tasty vegan food at events, show people how to have a healthy and delicious meat-free diet, show people why they should respect animals.

I'd like to open a small animal petting zoo in LA City. I'd love children to meet animals so they won't want to be cruel to them or eat them. I stopped eating meat at the age of seven after visiting a petting zoo. I had no idea that hamburgers were cows and KFC was chicken. I was just plain revolted. Meat isn't good for you and it's definitely bad for the environment. I'm glad you don't eat meat, Zuma. You'll be healthier and happier.

Speaking of eating meat...or not...
Did anyone ever eat at Cafe Luna Sol? It was on Sixth and Rampart. Great veggie food without being snobby - as veggie eateries tend to be. Pretty upbeat and urban. I heard that it closed a couple of years ago but was supposed to reopen. Any one know the 411?

Here's a vegetarian Mexican restaurant in the valley. Good food. It's in a tiny mall, a little plain hole in the wall, no real atmosphere but then I was there at an odd hour. I heard about that other place but never went.

2:31p, 2:44p,

Bring some of that sh*t to City Hall Rotunda Wednesday between 9:30am-10:00am, or anytime threafter, in the corridor to council chamber doors. (ZD will be in the meeting, but you can find me in the bleachers and talk outside.

That's THIS WED -- pending ZD has gas money to make it from Malibu to Downtown (and WHY would I even WANT to??? Obssesive compulsion, I guess.)

MATT DOWD -- BRING YOUR GUITAR -- THE REALITY CAMERA SHOULD BE THERE:

And everyone else who ZD has spoken with, or emailed, or met in person --

Come on down to the fraud factory, have a peek at the waste parade happening --- and wave the the abuse monkeys on display on the other side of the rope. They will wave and smile like politicians and trainded monkeys do, jumping on the bandwagon -- or their organ grinder's shoulders (his name is Mr. Antonio)-- then togehter, or in competition of each other, will steal the banana out of your hand, behind closed doors.

So stop by for all the fun on Wednesday -- for Zuma Dogg and City Council's ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY*.

I dig the way every one carries themself here, seems like a big upredictable turn of events that are way to real for T.V. with that 'throwback' appeal. (vintage in the future)..... lol

Anyway since I have addressed the Hy-brid TOPIC directly and noticed that my position in a 'certain energy market' went up 9.09% today. (I like news like that!) Even better is the *after-hour* transactions already show it opening up on Tuesday another 2.54% before wall street gets the news to get on ship.

Still waiting for the Council to give a firm postion to support the energy of the futre so I can liquidate my rewards.... (promote and mandate that all manufacturers produce zero emmision vehicles :0)

Funny thing is how a subject went from Hy-brid ~~~~> CARS to COWS. I know we can never regulate what some one eats, but we can control what type of vehicle they drive by informing of benifits, providing no other options, and educating society that this is about the evolution in the cylce of life. At one time mankind sought horse power, power from steam, then combustion, now fuel cell, propulsion is moving along progressively.
