Thursday Blog Bits
Journalists in LA are getting lazier and lazier according to Walter Moore. This is probably why they refer to people like Jack Kyser as an economist without checking the background, among other things.
Wednesday at Mayor Sam 2, we posted the comments of a reader who was hatin' on small cities. Foothill Cities has a further take on people who dismiss cities such as Monrovia, San Dimas and Glendora. Best line from the piece are the thoughts of an Angeleno driving through the San Gabriel Valley: "Everyone lives out here. I mean, EVERYONE, but NO ONE I know. What are these people like? What do these people do?"
Here in Van Nuys has photos of the demolition of a vintage 1960s apartment house in Studio City, in preparation for probably something bigger. I won't get into my usual private property rant here because Andrew makes a more interesting point: the usual limousine liberal gliterrati who protest the war in Iraq on Laurel Canyon and Ventura are not engaged enough on a local issue like this. This dovetails nicely with my post here.
Have you ever been to Garvanza? Franklin Avenue will tell you where it is.

I've been to Garvanza! Who's been to Hermon?

By the way, I'd like to see West Hollywood swallowed whole by Los Angeles for sole purpose of replacing those HIDEOUS blue light fixtures and bus benches.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen (removes hat and bows low with flourish):
I have a tidbit for you, Mayor Sam. Yesterday, the People of the State of California led by a Mister Arthur Plourde, filed suit down at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse against the National Education Association and the California Teachers Association, known to me and you as CTA, savvy? It appears that said entities have run afoul of the Political Reform Act Code Section 91004 for failure to file a semi-annual campaign statement.
Now why would this be of interest to you, Mayor Sam? (strokes chin and looks thoughtful. Snaps fingers as light bulb in head comes on) During the last two election cycles, the CTA gave lots and lots and lots and lots and still more monies to various folks like Senator Gloria Romero, Gilbert Cedillo, Kevin DeLeon, Richard Alarcon, Fabian Nunez, Villabarbosa Himself and even our favourite junior statesmen who won with a whopping 6K votes, Don Jose. Some of it was reported, but much of it was not. A lawsuit brings discovery which means document production which cracks open the books and lets Pandora out of her box, savvy? And the timing of said lawsuit could not be more exquisite as a ruling is expected soon in the AB1381 case which CTA enthusiastically endorsed.
Oh, and while you’re at it Mayor Sam, keep track of poor Lucille and her case of being spied upon by her employer (a.k.a. The City of Los Angeles). We’ve been wondering if Dame Sarno’s staff was closely watched. We know Clowncilman Park’s staff was as well as certain members of Don Jose’s staff.
Have a happy Easter, Mayor Sam. We’ll return on Monday for more fun and games, savvy?
