It's so obvious that Tony Villar is behind Kevin's departure!
Kevin got his last shot in by re-playing his phone conversation with Tony Villar on election nite...you know, the one where Tony Villar was drunk and hung up on Kevin!
Kevin was our favorite host because he spent the ENTIRE 4 hours on topic! He NEVER let up on illegal immigration, the corruption in city hall, and the fact that this city is in the crapper!
Unlike Doug and the others, Kevin NEVER deviated or wasted time in idle chit chat. It was ALL serious business...the business of saving our city.
I miss him terribly and so does everyone else. I listened for 5 minutes to the Tilden guy and it was TERRIBLE. I will never listen to KABC again!
All the more reason to continue Kevin's work to clean up this city starting with Tony Villar! We know the midget mayor had Kevin fired! And I'm sure Bratton helped, too! Screw them!

Every time some one or some thing happens, people call for firing, investigations, lynchings.
Our society has become so litiguous and contentious that we need to sit back and re-evalute our morality.
James is an OK guy, but you can be sure that the Mayor was not behind it. If he were, the sheer gamble that when he tried to have him fired would have been exposed by the management (media is known to do that, you know)is way more risk than Antonio would have taken.
Antonio is on a fast track to either Sacramento or Washington, D.C. and everyone knows it. So, why would he waste time and take the risk to get a doofus like James fired?
He wouldn't.
Instead check James' revenue numbers and listener numbers. That's the usual reason.
By the way, the new format is much better. It enables one to scroll past most of the ranting and self-congratulatory drippings of ZD and be able to read your and Walter's posts, which are generally pretty interesting.

I honestly don't know what his numbers were; my point is that numbers are good, but SPONSORS are the sine qua non of all broadcast media.

I doubt that Mayor V. was responsible for Kevin James' contract not being picked up by KABC. If the Mayor had that much power J&K, Doug M. and a few more hosts would be in jeopardy, as well.
KABC did not try to keep Marc Germaine/Mr. KABC, and he definitely had solid ratings, so something else is going on.
Repeating the Tilden show in the spot where K.J. would have been was possibly a cost-cutting move, but insiders would know for sure.
Peter Tilden is an entertaining guy and has a completely different show than Mr. K or Kevin James. Posters' condemnation of either K.J. or P.T is not an accurate measure of the talent.
Too bad both could not stay- BUT Mark Levin is the real mystery; Why is he still on? (and he's not "local"---don't believe he's on "live," either.) Expanding his time pushed the Mr. K issue to a contract impasse, and the rest is what's left.
The domino that triggered it all, was Mark Levin's second nationally syndicated being added to KABC. This was at the demanding of ABC Radio Corporate offices in NYC. They had a second hour of syndication to sell, and you need the #1 radio revenue market (Los Angeles) on board.
I don't think the Mayor had anything to do with it. However, there has been pressure from local politicans for Disney to put pressure on KABC over Doug Mac's dialouge.
Once Levin's second hour, eliminated one-hour of local hosting -- well that one hour was just enough to make Mr. K say, "Buh-bye" -- AND it's not worth KABC to pay a host, producer and screener for only 3 hours, between 2a-5a.
But CLEARLY with Tilden doing a "broad" entertainment show, rather than focusing on political issues like Kevin James, it sends a message. So I don't know if Peter Tilden is gonna be doing a great show, or a lousy show -- all I know, is it's a "different", softer show than Kevin.
KABC is owned by Disney. So you gotta consider that. They have an image, and relationships with people. I DO think there is some political pressure, but you couldn't get some other companies to cave to political pressure. But
Disney is the nice guy company. And they want to make their products as warm and fuzzy as possible. And don't want to challenges from politicians come time for FCC license transfer time.
And I DO think AM will EVENTUALLY become the spanish lanuage band...but it's not gonna be overnight, and it's still a little ways away before KFI and KABC go espanol. You're not gonna outbill KFI with their numbers and demographics.
And KABC has Hannity & O'Reilly -- and they've got the advertising sales machine behind them, the way politicians have the political machines behind them.
So I think it will be a while before the Spanish language sales departments will be able to catch up with the demand that can be filled by Spanish language programming.
(I know people will say the ad dollars are there. O.K., fine. I'm just saying radio is getting LESS ad dollars than previously, not MORE...and then you're talikng about "spanish ad dollars" and I don't know if advertisers are yet willing to pay as much to reach that demographic, as they are to reach John & Ken's or Doug McIntyre's audience.)
So it's coming. AM will become Spanish Language. FM will be where the English talk used to be. And for music, you gotta have satellite. It's not like it's all gonna happen, manana, but over the next five years. And stations playing music on FM will be catering entirely to Spanish language crowd. So look for KLOS to go spanish-targeted by new owners, before KABC.

ABC Radio out of NYC forced KABC to add the second hour of programming, cause they need the LA market (#1 radio billing market) for their national commercial dollars. I'm sure there was QUITE a difference in price for a :60 second spot in the 9pm hour WITHOUT LA compared to the 10pm hour WITH LA.
They don't really care about quality of programming. Gotta get those national syndication dollars for that 10pm hour.
BESIDES THAT -- you gotta consider that KABC is owned by Disney -- and they probably weren't comfortable with the hard-hitting Kevin James in the earlier 11pm hour.
PLUS, I think there may have been pressure from local politicians and activists to tone the station down, or they might try and throw a wrench in the sale of KABC to it's new owners.
So Peter is a known name to the KABC audience, and it's not gonna offend anyone. Whether he interests anybody is a separate question.
Kevin James was unique and it was devasting to hear about his demise at KABC. What a stupid move KABC.
You didn't always have to agree with him, but he was intelligent and could back up his s***.
He concentrated on really local issues as well as being able to see the bigger picture.
Hopefully, he will get something else local and will maybe be on a little earlier. KABC did not just lose one listener, they lost all the people I was turning onto the station to tune into James. I think local politicos did have something to do with his firing, and I will never support Villaraigosa for any office including dog catcher.
I want to thank KABC 790 radio administration for improving my overall health. I used to stay up late to listen to Mr. KABC and Doug McIntyre and then Kevin James. Now I'm finally getting some sleep. Tilden is simply boring. Levin is the worst person I've ever heard on the radio - cannot stand to listen his nonsensical screaching. And I don't know what has happened to Doug, but he's turned into a screaming, mean schrew. Won't listen to him now either. Mr. KABC was, at least for me, the most interesting. Kevin was OK - he actually listened to the people who called in. But now 790 is no longer programmed into my radios and my sleeping pattern is improving. So thank you! And my best wishes to Mr. KABC and Kevin James.
I really liked listening to Kevin James with his attorney background just made him above and beyond interesting. I don't wake up early to listen to shows that are just okay. I loved Kevin James program! He called a spade a spade and was like the Lou Dobbs of red-eye radio! Tilden's show or sleep, I pick sleep!

I noticed that when Kevin James would play music that I enjoyed was usually done when he needed to confirm something before going on air with it. Integrity! He was witty and gave me some great big laughs. My favorite part of all was the attorney. Kevin James combination of talents is what made his program highly-rated, popular with me, and the reason I woke up early! I now sleep.
Shame to KABC 790! I hope he lands on his feet in L.A. SOON because I really miss his program.

A respectful citizen's public opinion e-mail, call, or letter very effectively lets lawmakers know citizens are paying attention and when it comes time to vote, citizens have the POWER to VOTE and make CHANGES.
