Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday

Editors Note: Today we are experimenting with a new feature on the blog the "Read More" link. This will keep the size of posts on the main blog shorter so that you may quickly browse the current stories, but allow you to read the full article of those items you chose to. If this works well, we will extend it to all stories that are more than one or two paragraphs long. Your comments and suggestions are much appreciated.

Citywatch has the take of political science professor Rafael Sonenshein on the issue of outreach and participation of Neighborhood Councils. Many of our readers have criticized the councils for low voter participation. However, Sonenshein says the success of councils should be measured in how much all forms of public participation is involved in the councils.

Sonenshein called criticism of the councils unfair given that DONE's support efforts are so poor, including having an out of date website. Sonenshein also notes the NCs get little support from the City Council who does no outreach of its own and has abysmal results for its own elections.

One refreshing quality of Councilman Bernard "Bitter Bernie" Parks is that he has some understanding of market economics. He writes in the LA Times that the market has a "natural ability" to provide affordable housing where needed. Of course he still voted to hike re-location fees for residents evicted for condo conversions, so like Wally Knox, he's only part of the way there.

Parking was miserable at Dodger Stadium for opening day, but guess who was standing at the entrance to the ballpark to greet fans as they arrived? Yup, this guy!

Rick Orlov writes that the three women who are up for consideration to be the head of Los Angeles World Airports are all trying to get out from under the shadow of two time LAWA executive director Lydia Kennard who remains as a consultant.

And finally, taking a moment from bitching about the parking situation at Dodger Stadium, the kids at LA Voice whine about the cost of living in LA. Of course their support of more government regulation - such as government forced recycling of that dreaded scourge the plastic trash bag - is amongst the reasons for driving up the cost of things (don't make me explain that to you).

Higby --

Best idea yet...now I don't have to read 3 pages of ZD before coming to something I might care about.

THAT WAS FAST

Remember last month when Claudia McMahon joined the staff of Councilman Dennis Zine as communications deputy, "with a wealth of media experience including several years as a senior producer at Fox News Channel and Good Morning America?" Well, first they spelled her name wrong in the email announcing the hire. Then she quit after three days, apparently going out for a personal appointment one afternoon and never returning.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen (removes hat with flourish and bows low):

Perhaps Claudia left because she discovered that she was being spied upon. Maybe she had a chance to chat with poor Lucille about participating in a lawsuit, savvy?

A word about your abbreviated posts, Mayor Sam. Does the Clowncil do their business in an abbreviated manner? Are we the people ever invited to, if you will, follow the link? No. Ask anyone who has had to sit through a Clowncil meeting and they will tell you that in the time it takes to actually get through the meeting, one could have gone and had tea with the Queen and returned again.

But then again, sometimes great ideas need to stew a while and slowly reveal themselves after 45 minutes and six paragraphs, savvy? No, keep things as they are and let the sots do the math with each little literary treasure hunt.

Oh, and Mayor Sam? What digging have you done about the lawsuit concerning CTA and the violation of the Fair Political Practices Act that I made mention of a few days ago? Set the Dogg to it, and you might find more than a tidbit, savvy?

Yes, I like the "read more" function. While I like ZDs posts, they can be lengthy. I'd rather read the rest on another page so I can scan all posts.

I like the new format, too, from an astetic standpoint, but it's a victory for the shady fraud, waste and abusers, unfortunatley, too.

Now I'm gonna have to make sure an put my paypal buttons right at the TOP of the story, y'all...yeah, yeah!

Plus, if y'all don't click the "read more" I'm gonna post just as long stories -- but only two paragraphs at a time....

Zuma Dogg,
Hoooody Hoooooooo!

P.S. Sorry I didn't hit the Councilmeeting to those who mentioned they were going today. But like I said, luckily, the past year of burning rubber, has allowed me to work :"smarter" from behind the scenes -- under the umbrella of ZAP. And HERE'S THE BEST PART: While Councilmembers are locked up in those long meetings all day. ZD is now out in the community WAY more, and am taking the reality cameras throughout the 15 districts to DOCUMENT ON CAMERA -- THE ISSUES I HAVE SPENT DISCUSSING ON TV 35 THE PAST YEAR.

Gotta film tenants getting screwed by Greuel in Valley Village, All the people gentrifyed by Rosendoh, gotta show some of the streets in Reyes' district where people were billed by DWP, even though "nada agua." Dangerous unpaved roads in the streets of L.A., interview hotel workers who's tips are down cause of Garshady's LAX Hotel call for a boycott.

People who's kids are sick cause of you toxic landfill loving. And all the other shady bombs ZD will be exploding on camera with the pueblos. And of course, the best segment will come out of CD 14, I just KNOW that. A few people have already put in requests to go on camera with their local CD 14 issue that need attention. Too bad their councilmember is too busy voting AGAINST more money for his constituents and saying, "IF" there is even a housing crisis on camera. So maybe I better show the results of the housing crisis, on camera.

Good morning Mr. Dogg (tips hat):

Yes indeedy-dee there will be a-something that springs forth from the CQ and whether you like it or not, whether you want to or not, you will, if you're not already, be a part of it for I shall see to it, savvy? We shall let you know when it is time by sending two of the Five to you directly and indirectly.

Oh, and Mr. Dogg? Remember the Bard's little ditty a week or so ago about Old Man Johnson? Go back and re-read that for there is your clue. Lucille and Hamlet shall have company, savvy?

Cpt. Jack,

Sounds like fun. Hooooody hooooooooo!

Gotta love council for going on record this morning saying, and I quote, "The City has been negligent" (regarding housing policy).

And to all the CMs who ADMITTED the City doesn't even HAVE a housing policy.

Thanks to Noel Weiss for doing Council's homework for them on "9 & 17" -- and going "on the record" in asking for a housing policy by this time next year.

And Cpt. Jack, directly is cool...It's the "indirect" ones that make me nervous. I remember that "Blind Melon Chitlin" post from the weekend. YIKES. If one crew member is in trouble, gotta make you wonder who else is involved as well.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen (removes hat and bows low):

Halloo sots? (waves at sots) Anyone home? I have a question for you. When is a sitchy-ation enough of a sitchy-ation to warrant the placement of said sitchy-ation on the radar?

(smiles and rubs hands together) Remember all of my comments about the alleged tempest in CD14? You would agree that the water was fairly well churned in this most recent election where Don Jose got a whopping 6K votes, was it not? And in the time since then, certain folks have been busy with firings, have they not? Perhaps they should have been paying closer attention to what what they said and did PRIOR to getting elected, savvy?

Oh bugger, the Bard is about to sing. What say you Bard?

(Bard clears his throat and begins to sing)

"First there is a letter that is sent away.
Filled with allegations that surely bring dismay.
So was warned the parties prior to Election Day...
So said Old Man Johnson.

Next there is a summons attached to
said complaint.
Said the Clowncil 'You are a fooling'.
Said Old Man Johnson 'No, I ain't. I whooped and hollered and screamed I did enough to chip the paint.'
And he did, that Old Man Johnson.

The Temepest shall be loosed upon those in the Catorce Quarter. Garcetti he is near enough to be caught up in the slaughter.
And all of this makes for good Zanhiser fodder...
And he smiled, that Old Man Johnson."

Pink bismuth cocktail, anyone?

Be sure and read todays LA Times, "L.A. Police immigrant policy faces another test".

Or in more truthful words, Special Order 40, the city policy protecting persons in the country illegally is being challenged in court.

P.S.

Don't be surprised if one of the petitioners is none other than David Hernandez.

you mean this one?

here's the choice : police state, everyone's in the shadows, black market flourishes, major crime doesn't get solved, jails overcrowd, lawsuits abound, its a mess

OR

the way it is now.

Mayor and Chief have just continued an order brought in late 70's.
Majority of country has adopted it.
Technically it may be flawed, but practically, its what works for the police. so I'm in favor of that. I just wish they'd bring out the stats I always ask for. Show us your increased effectiveness now in solving those serious crimes. If you can't provide them then I guess I'll have to reconsider.

Regarding your link to Orlov's article about the Airport's quest to replace Lydia Kennard, indeed the candidates are leery.

Lydia didn't do much in the 18 months she has been there except rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.

LAWA is in deep doo-doo and needs a strong excutive. Now is the chance to get someone really respected like Gina Marie Lindsey, who rebuilt Sea-Tac. But LAWA's bumbling along with Lydia's trying to throw it to one of her buddies has complicated the process unneccessarily.

THe Mayor should make his decision and let's get on with fixing the mess Lydia left behind.
