Tony Cardenas Screws the San Fernando Valley

If you're a resident of the San Fernando Valley and care about our future as a vibrant, rich community - one that promotes it's own interests and doesn't ship its resources off to other communities - then you need to read this.

And you need to tell anyone and everyone who lives in the 6th Council District to NOT vote for Clowncilman Tony Cardenas this Tuesday.

Because Tony Cardenas has sought to pander to extremely narrow minded NIMBY and other goofball interests - and more importantly a personal political interest, the San Fernando Valley Fair - a veritable institution - will be shipped lock, stock and barrel to of all places SANTA CLARITA.

Heck - even most of the usual NIMBYs wanted the fair and were willing to work with the organizers.
"We have a place where people welcome us. On the other end of the spectrum, we have a place where people want to abuse us."
David Honda, Fair President
Why? Because Cardenas refused to work with the 61 year old event's organizers to allow it to settle in a location - Woodley Park - that would have been ideal to promote attendance and participation. He imposed absolutely ridiculous restrictions on the event that would have made the Fair about as exciting as watching paint dry - or even more boring - another one of those stupid "community fairs" the nitwits in City Hall hold thinking they are doing something for the citizenry. How many times can you get your face painted and take home a flyer on how to restrict shower flow?

Insiders have told the Sister City that the key reason for Cardenas' move - though he may wish to position it as pandering to the local NIMBYs - was a deal with Council Candidate Richard Alarcon. Alarcon is feeling pretty hubristic that he's going to get to be a Clowncilman again he wanted Tony to make sure the Fair stayed in his Seventh District in Lakeview Terrace. I don't know what Richard offered Tony for this but the upshot is Tony really screwed the pooch this time and blew it for both Richard and himself (Richard make sure Tony gives you back whatever you gave him cause you got clowned y'all.) So this is probably a good time to remind folks to vote for Monica Rodriguez as well.
"..the key reason for Cardenas' move - though he may wish to position it as pandering to the local NIMBYs - was a deal with Council Candidate Richard Alarcon."
Fair President David Honda put it best in explaining his board's decision to locate the fair at Saugus Speedway, "We have a place where people welcome us. On the other end of the spectrum, we have a place where people want to abuse us."

Honda is absolutely right. When it comes to building community, civic pride and a wonderful place for people to live SANTA CLARITA FUCKING GETS IT PEOPLE! Here in Los Angeles - home of the world's creative arts - we have boring ass New Year's Eve celebrations, communities that won't hold Fourth of July parades because the homeowners and businessowners don't like the "intrusion," and absolutely zero civic identity and pride save for a few pockets here and there. We chase out businesses, developers who could bring market based affordable housing, and now, a wonderful event that provides so much education, entertainment and enrichment to San Fernando Valley children and adults alike.

So when children from Pacoima, Van Nuys, Studio City, Chatsworth, Valley Glen, Sherman Oaks, Sylmar or wherever don't have a local opportunity to pet goats, see butter being made, learn how baby chicks are born or get to eat some cotton candy, you can tell them all who to thank.

Our hopefully soon to be ex-Clowncilman Tony Cardenas. Shame on you Councilman!

If you feel strongly about this I urge you to email this post to anyone and everyone you know.

Tony and Richard have about as much chance of losing as Dave Elliot has of getting elected Mayor of Los Angeles.

Do you guys ever tire of hearing your own voice?

This blog has become a ten paragraph rant, instead of the old short post and welcome commenters blog that it started out to be.

The only good thing is that you guys have found something to talk about once in a while besides CD 14.

Cardenas is a jerk. Back when Hahn & Co. were trying to push through the $9 billion -- later $11.5 billion -- LAX remodel, I waited, like other members of the public, a LONG time, on a WORK day, for my friggin' three minutes. This guy was so incredibly rude that he couldn't just sit and listen, or ignore, but instead tried to HECKLE me! He interrupted with "you have 30 seconds left," to which I replied "yes, thank you, there's a clock right there." I finished three seconds early and said "you can have the rest of the time."

I don't mind people disagreeing with me, but when you're in public office, and people have taken time out from their lives because they care enough about something to comment, just shut up and listen. Isn't that in Manners 101? He deserves to be thrown out of office, because he has nothing but contempt for the public -- the public which works hard to pay his salary, and whose interest he is supposed to represent.

Also, FYI, and with all due respect to ZD, this was not a ZD situation. I was not a person who came there every day and commented on everything. I think this was the first time I commented on anything down there. Anyway, the guy put himself on the top of my you-know-what list that day.

MAYOR SAM,

The San Fernando Valley Fair is something that I partaked in as a child. I believe at that time the fair was located on the CSUN Devonshire North Campus. Somebody that has no rspect for a community event such as the fair is NOT fit to be councilman. Just sad and it makes you mad as hell.

the rumor is that Villaraigosa was going to stay neutral in CD6 because he can not stand Cardenas. Goes back to the bad blood between them when they were Assemblymen. Irrespective of that, Tony knew he needed AV's endorsement.

The rest of the story goes that AV hit on Tony's wife. AV came up to Sacramento to push his school bill. The word got to AV that if he didn't endorse Tony, the news media would find out about it. And the rest is history.

Now if is this true I don't know, but all the punks on the fourth floor were mouthing something.

You would think with all the gang violence in the valley the smart thing to do is NOT have it there. If you know anything about gang bangers they look for events like this to make a name for themselves. And at public comment Cardenas held his own explaining all about the facts which I don't see posted here. Cardenas is one of the few clowncil members who has done something about the gangs and none of the others have. He started the Ad Hoc committee and I will give him credit for not being a follower and having illegal vendor sweeps in his district that has cleaned up the community from enormous blight.

Cardenas is as bad as they come. I have yet to see him accomplish anything that does not in some way further his interests and/or career. He's a shady politician who can fool many with his clean cut looks. On a personal level, I have yet to hear him say one original, clever, or cutting-edge statement. Cardenas is not a leader, not even close.

Oh please! Gangs in Encino? Do LAT-Tee-NOs like Toe-nee CARRRR-DENASS want people to hold themselves hostage to these thugs? Oh well the kids in Santa Clarita will enjoy it. Tony and the Clowncil talk about doing things "for the children" but they really don't care. Keep them all on welfare and dumb so I can live somewhere other than my district and make nearly $200K off the taxpayers cause no one would hire me otherwise.

You've got to be kidding. Cardenas hasn't done jack for gangs. He has released statements that he's doing blah, blah, blah. I don't see anything concrete, no results. No one heard or saw Cardenas last year. He didn't even pretend to be involved. Now that he's running Cardenas and his press team are trying it look like he's actually worth the money the taxpayers are paying him. He should be run out of town.

Shame on Ron Berkowitz at Rec and Parks for having no spine and bow to Tony Cardenas. Berkowitz signed a contract with the Fair in December then tried to weasel out of it at Tony's request after Tony got the call from Alarcon to force the fair back to Lake View Terrace. The SFV Fair should sue the city for breach of contract !

We all saw Berkowitz whispering in Tony's ear during the City Council meeting on Friday. Shame on them. Berkowitz should be canned for not standing up to Tony and his role in converting the SFV Fair to the SCV Fair.

Why doesn't anyone mention the TEN MILLION DOLLARS Tony and Bernie wasted by getting the approval of the c.c. to allow no bidding on the recent issuance of city bonds?

The idea was to get minority business into the bond game, but is this an acceptable public policy?

Ok, we all know Acevedo controls Cardenas' moves. Most importantly, how do we reduce or eliminate Acevedo's power from east valley politics? What about Cardenas' other puppet masters? With a politician like Cardenas, who only plays where it pays, I'm just hoping his puppet masters tire of him and seek a new toy.
