At 7:00PM, LAUSD Board of Education voted 5-2 to renew the Charter of Academia Semillas del Pueblo with "STRICT CONDITIONS". Will post more in-depth information as we get it. But in the footage that I saw on Channel 58. Academia is not out of the woods. One thing that did stick out is the "MAJOR CONFLICT OF INTEREST" that the schools non-profit has with the paid faculty. "BOARD MEMBERS ARE VOTING THEMSELFS SALARIES"Someone needs to audit the schools non-profit. Drums will be heard in El Sereno tonight.

The decision of the Board is just another demonstration of their classic ineptitude.
aside from the reactionary comments, or rather the rediculous comments, the conditions are essentially that the structure of the school is set so that there is no monetary deception and that they specify grades and accomplishments more precisely.

One excellent benefit to the school not being denied charter renewal is that Ramon Flores' son can still learn Nahuatl. That way, by the time he gets old enough to commit felonious assault, like his dad, he'll already have learned the language of the California prison system. That will give him a strong head start working his way up the prison gang ladder. Kudos to the BOE.

When you have Monica Garia supporting this school instead of the legal residents in her district its shameful! All the Latino politicians don't get it. They are uneducated, backwards, low life Mexicans. I'm Latino and ashamed at how these electeds have lowered the standards of good education. You would think they were in Mexico with their mentality. Its as if we're back to the 70's. You step out of ELA and no one respects our politicians with this mentality. Even AV was talked about behind closed doors in Washington for his stance on these type of issues. He'll never be governor.

Board Member Julie Korenstein's abysmal knowledge of the charter operation was telling, yet she still voted "Yes" on the renewal- Hey, why not? It's neither her kids, nor her money. And then the loud minority of the people will get off her back.
Don Laurenzen and Ms. LaMotte were the only ones who acted with any integrity and responsibility to the children and the taxpayers.

I find it interesting that a bunch of adults who pontificate against our school as being ‘savage’ and ‘below standard’ have the gall to be so insulting and demeaning to another human being. Are these the values you speak of wanting to spread to all students? Is this the example you’re hoping will be taught in classrooms around the country? Your children must be very proud.

There was an Avanzando event Friday night at the Cathedral in downtown. Monica's table was the loudest and most obnoxious. Ghetto!
Truth be told - for dessert she had an entire cake placed in front of her. When the waiters (yes plural that's how big it was) brought the cake out, we all thought the cake was for Frank Quevedo's daughter who was celebrating her b-day. Boy were we fooled. It was simply Monica's dessert.
One more thing I wonder why she kept Semillas hanging when the BOE knew they were moving forward with the approval? Does she really think that she single handedly handed Semillas the 5 year extension? Puhleeze
There are a few people who made that happen behind the scenes. She was an easy vote its the others who had to be convinced and believe me she made no effort to help sway those votes.
