Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday
Zuma Dogg reported it earlier, the Los Angeles City Council meeting was canceled today due to lack of a quorum, bringing an apology from President Eric Garcetti. "Seeing that it is 10:15 right now and we do not have a quorum, we will next be meeting on Friday. My apologies to members of the public.'' Council members Tony Cardenas, Janice Hahn, Jose Huizar, Tom LaBonge, Jan Perry and Jack Weiss did not show up to the meeting on time. Today marks the first time Garcetti has canceled a meeting because a quorum not was present. Past council presidents including Alex Padilla and John Ferraro regularly started meetings up to an hour late. Agenda items scheduled for today will be heard Friday.
LA CityWatch is covering a discussion circulating around Neighborhood Council circles. What is a stakeholder? Unlike City Council elections where you have to be a citizen and live in a given district to vote in that district, NCs also include what they call "stakeholders" which can be not only residents but property owners, business owners, representatives of non-profits and community organizations, employees, etc. As we discussed yesterday, this is something inherited from the process in which members of Community Redevelopment Agency Project Area Committees were chosen. At issue is a concern of some members of the Westchester-Playa Del Rey NC about employees of the controversial development Playa Vista serving on the NC and possible conflicts of interest.
The Foothill Cities blog has the quote of the week, this time from everyone's favorite, State Senator Gloria Romero. In a recent newspaper interview about crime the Democratic official said ""What are the solutions? What can we do to prevent people from being locked up?"
Billionaires Eli Broad and Ron Burkle are proposing to put up hundreds of millions of their own dollars in a bid to buy Tribune Company, publisher of the LA Times. Both of the men wish to return the Times to local control following the six year reign of Chicago based Tribune.
Community activist David Hernandez has set up a blog of his own. One of his first stories posits that the term limits extension scheme - Measure R - was cooked up by lobbyist firms wishing to write their own version of lobbying reform before the Clowncil passed potentially more draconian steps. Interesting thought.

We pay these airheads $171,000 a year and they can't even show up on time?! And Janice Hahn wants another tax increase! Maybe she can afford it but I can't. This city is f-d.

Zuma beware these illegals will be at city hall on Friday demanding the police stop harrassing them. ITS ABOUT FREAKING TIME THEY GO AFTER THOSE ILLEGAL VENDORS.
This is a huge issue in CD14 and Jose does nothing. Downtown they park their filthy carts in front of businesses that have legal permits and make tax free cash. Now their complaining because the laws are being enforced. Let's see if the clowns on council fold to them cause they're illegal.
...So on Wednesday morning, Cruz joined dozens of other hot dog vendors on the steps of City Hall to protest what they say is an aggressive campaign to crack down on their businesses....Some held up signs in English and Spanish that read, "Stop the Police Harassment" and "Respect the Right to Work."
THEY SHOULD RESPECT THE LAW!!

Outtakes from the "LA ANTONIA TIMES"
"MAYOR POSTS HIS STRATEGY FOR SCHOOLS"
"HIS POLLONESS" favorite reporter Duke "LIL DOOKIE" Helfand is back with his P.R. release on the mayor's "SWEEPING REFORMS" for LAUSD. Did anyone catch the irony that "HIS POLLONESS" chosed the "NATIONAL CENTER for the PRESERVATION of DEMOCRACY" to announce his reform plan ? If "POLLORAIGOSA" had faith in democracy, then he would of put his reform plan on the ballot.
"FOOD VENDERS ADD PROTEST TO MENU"
The "COALITION FOR HUMANE (ILLEGAL) IMMIGRANT RIGHTS OF LOS ANGELES" has the audacity to protest the seizures of their "NON-PERMITTED" vending carts. HMMMM... Lets remember that these so-call "STREET MERCHANTS" are operating without a business permit. They pay no Taxes and the workers just happen to be "UN DOCUMENTED", for most part. Yet the "LA ANTONIA TIMES" (Most likely with the blessing of "HIS POLLONESS") give these "UNDOCUMENTED VICTIMCRATS" a forum. I guess next they will call upon our favorite "CHOLA IN POLITICS" for support.
"L.A. URGED TO ALTER GANG (URBAN TERRORIST) TACTICS"
Want to fight the "KATRINA" of gang violence ? Well lets create a new giant city department to wage jihad (ie. WASTE MORE MONEY, AND ENRICH THE "CONNECTED" OVER THE DEAD BODIES OF OUR YOUTH) on the emergency that is our gang problem. Simply you need to call a "STATE OF EMERGENCY" and keep the "ANTI-POLICE CABAL" from influencing policy.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen (bows low):
I must comment on the effort to add another downhill lane to Laurel Canyon Boulevard. This particular subject hits rather close to the home of one of my crew, savvy? Having traversed the area to get to and fro, if a lane were going to be added, it should be on the Hollywood side and not the Studio City side, yes?
(Rolls eyes) Building something on already shaky ground is something the sots in City Hall are very adept at. And taking an area with an already dedicated purpose is passe.
Oh bugger, the bard has opened his mouth to sing.
(Bard clears throat)
Build a road on shaky ground, someone better slap thee.
Quash others voices so they don't make a sound, someone better slap thee.
School take over not going too well?
Pipes that burst 'cause it's cold as hell.
Look in the mirror and think you're swell,
SOMEONE BETTER SLAP THEE.

I'm kinda sad and sick to my stomach. I just read an article about Jose Huizar that didn't make me feel too good. As you know I THOUGHT he would be the better of two evils, but after reading the article, even Zuma Dogg might have to distance himself from Jose. Will post it later, but there is a lot of good discussion of other issues on this blog today with posts from mayor sam and walter, so maybe I'll be able to post so highlights, I mean lowlights, later.

Zuma put that article on your website so we can read. I hope you're good and ready cause lots happening this week with clowncil. Yup, ADD Antonio supports illegal vendors. Didn't do shit in CD14 and they're out of control. Jose is standing by doing nothing either and people are pissed and want them gone.

Maaaaaaaaaaan, don't read that article on Councilmember Jose Huizar...
It don't look good. I was gonna post some of it on a mayor sam thread, but then it gets picked up BIGTIME on all the "Google" searches and gets syndicated on a bunch of other news services and blogs, and I wanna give his side a chance to respond, first...
However, I MIGHT not be able to stop myself, once the 40's start flowing (and my wrist does hurt today)...But, maybe we can contain it to the lower profile comment section.
Zuma Dogg said:
Lots of info coming in on this CD 14 article on Huizar. Will post a thread after a few more follow-up calls are returned. BUT...SINCE SOME OF THE ALLEGATIONS ARE PRETTY SERIOUS, BEFORE ANYONE RUSHES TO JUDGEMENT WAIT FOR THIS...
Perhaps, there was nothing that could be done about the alleged "predator" if he had no record.
NO APOLOGIZES YET...Police report on the way to see what was said and done. But this is a big allegation, and you know in the perception of public opinion, allegations are all you need...So let's make sure WE aren't getting spun. But to be honest, I think the biggest concern for Huizar supporters, is, "Out of all the staffers who quit Huizar's office so far, how many of them knew about this, and warned him to do something about it. And maybe more was not done because of fear that any further publicity would reflect badly in the public's eye. (Like I said, people link and associate things pretty easily.)
So hopefully further information will show that the Councilmember did all he could to prevent this guy from doing harm to the public, but there was nothing more that could be done, because the guy had no police record, no previous violations, and there is no law against taking picutres in public with a camera. [So there's the best spin ZD can put on this...and hoping the spin sticks pending further verification.]
A public service announcement from Zuma Dogg.

I wonder if Jose Huizar has a chauffeur? And if so, why; and who pays for it? He probably doesn't though, because that would be a fu*kin' joke. Stop feeding me these outrageous rumors after you know the 40s have been flowing.
