Shake-Up At The L.A. Times

Man overboard!

"Los Angeles Times Publisher Jeffrey M. Johnson was forced out Thursday, a month after he defied the conglomerate's demands for what he considered potentially damaging staff cuts."

Query whether this may somehow help transform the publication from a press release reprinting service into something more like an actual newspaper. Now all they have to do is fire the distorters and replace them with reporters.

According to the L.A. Times, the new publisher's "background includes a stint as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart, two years at the Reagan-era Department of Justice (where his colleagues included Chief Justice John Roberts and former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani), and work as a lawyer at the Chicago firm Sidley & Austin, where he was instrumental in the federal anti-trust case against AT&T that resulted in the telecommunications giant's breakup in 1982."

He is a Harvard law graduate.

He should have caved in and fired Pinkus! I would have been happy with that and he could have save his job.
