Mayoral Miscalculation
Algebra pop quiz:
If a law leaves Sacramento in September, and an LAUSD Superintendent leaves Los Angeles in October, then how screwed is Mayor Villaraigosa?
The correct answer is "very."
The Mayor's shiny new takeover law will not go into effect until January.
But the LAUSD School Board could hire a new superintendent, pursuant to a FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT before then.
Result?
Villaraigosa's term will expire before the new superintendent's term, so Villaraigosa will have no influence on any of the schools -- with the exception for the handful of schools he MAY be allowed to run indirectly.
Someone got outmaneuvered.
Life is chess.
(I know, I mixed my metaphors, but fewer people each day even know what a metaphor is....)

It will be political suicide for those who would cross the Mayor in this city and vote to hire a Superintendent before January.
I'm betting no one has the balls to do it.

Is there anyone besides me who finds it ironic that the Mayor who kept parents like me shut out of negotiations dealing with his take over of the school district is now being shut out of picking a superintendent? And I take it he’s not happy about it? Wants to be included? Feels left out? Helpless? Ignored? Kept in the dark? Poor man, I feel for him. NOT! Mr. Mayor, now you know how it feels to be one of the people you’re supposed to represent. Now you know what it feels like to be all of the parents you told Roy Romer that he’d better control or you would see to it that we were kicked out.

Today is one to remember in the L.A. journalistic community. Both the "LA ANTONIA TIMES" and the "GREEN SHEET" have editorials that put the school board on the spot over the Sup selection process. In reference to Phil's comment about the political repercussions, "JUMBO GARCIA" is showing her political courage with the stance that "HIS POLLONESS", errr, she has chosen to take.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen:
"This is the biggest decision this school board will make," Villaraigosa said at the news conference, flanked by state Sen. Gloria Romero, D-Los Angeles, and City Council members Tom LaBonge and Wendy Greuel.
"We shouldn't rush the decision through behind closed doors," he said. "I believe we've made a modest and reasonable proposal. Since the new law won't take effect until Jan. 1, we didn't ask for all the authority that AB 1381 confers. Far from it. We simply asked the board to open up the process, and to let some light shine in."
Pardon me while I make an uncouth sound. AB1381 was rushed through behind closed doors courtesy of Senator Romero, Speaker Nunez and Villabarbosa. The process wasn’t open and no light shone through. Damn hypocrite.
ROMERO, NUNEZ, DELEON, CEDILLO AND PADILLA PLUS ONE CITY HALL SOT CHOSEN BY HIS/HER PEERS WALK THE PLANK IN NOVEMBER. The rest walk in March.

Your premise implies that MAV is only a one-term mayor.
Considering his first "city" job, what makes you think he'll hang around for THAT long?

I agree. This hypocritical, do-nothing mayor cannot be trusted.

The Mexican midget will capitalize on his natural talents...threats, intimidation, home invasions, and eventual beheadings...if he doesn't get his way.
And in the end, what does it matter? Who cares about what happens to LAUSD? It's just a prep school for the prison system.
LAUSD is now considered to be hazardous to your health and should be avoided by anyone coming into contact with it.
Deport the illegals!!! NOW!!!!
And send Villagrossa with them!!!!

Finally someone is putting our midget mayor in his place. He's feeling the wrath of those who were against his takeover. HE has to be embarrassed that he's being left out. Although Canter stated the executive search company sent a letter to Antonio asking him for suggestions and he completely IGNORED. They have a copy. So Antonio has no one to blame except his fat ego.
BTW does anyone else think if Channel 7 wasn't behind Antonio on the way to the valley he would have stopped for that traffic accident??? HELL NO.

I think Mayor Villaraigosa had 4 town hall meetings where there were like 1,000 parents at each one.
I think the bill had more town halls sponsered by other civic organizations -- it was covered virutally everyday in the media. There was so much sunshine it was advised that folks start wearing sunglasses.
As for Walter's assertion that the Mayor has been outplayed -- i think Walter's post proves why he isn't in politics.
He has no idea whats going on.
