Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday

The LA Times pontificates on the selection of Admiral David Brewer as the new Superintendent of the LA Unified. While the Times feels that the School Board basically acted in defiance of Mayor Villaraigosa and everyone involved with the Mayors AB 1361 take over plan, the selection of Brewer may not be a bad one in the end. LA Voice takes a similar tack on the Brewer appointment.

In visiting Asia, Mayor Villaraigosa has to watch out for protocol mis-steps that could be translated the wrong way in a different culture. Click here to read more.

Martini Republic takes a look at Proposition H, the billion dollar housing boondoggle on this November's special municipal election ballot. Given that hundreds of millions of dollars a year will be spent that will deliver a miniscule amount of new housing units, the martini drinkers say "You’re better off at Santa Anita." In the comments section to the piece, our own Walter Moore points out the little known fact that much of the housing assistance will actually go to folks making six figure incomes who want to purchase homes in Studio City or Los Feliz or West LA.

LA Voice finds that a new agreement between the City and billboard companies - negotiated by City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo - stinks.

Zach at In The Oaks parses commentary from a recent Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association newsletter about the role of the Neighborhood Council. Sounds like the SOHA folks should have got off their ass and voted.

MEMO TO THE "LA ANTONIA TIMES"

"GLOBAL TROTTING POLLO GNOME"

JOURNALIST BAQUET, as our "DEAR MAYOR" continues "HIS POLLONESS" DOES ASIA TOUR, I have a great idea for "SCRIBE HELFAND" when he returns to "THE OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET", after his "TEMP" work for the "HIS POLLONESS" P.R. Office. In the spirit of the story on the "FLAT STANLEY PAPER DOLL", we can have "SCRIBE HELFAND" write a regular column on sitings of the "POLLO GNOME". Background on the "POLLO GNOME". This gnome has the ability to detect cameras and microphones and rotate its "SMILING FACE" in the direction of the above mention devices. If the Gnome is low on power, it has a emengency device for arousal (THINK "OTTO PILOT" FROM AIRPLANE). THE "POLLO GNOME" has been missing from the local area for awhile. Scribe HELFAND can have his own BLOG where readers can opine on the adventures of the "POLLO GNOME". Please remember that the "POLLO GNOME" requires constant attention and plenty of "room temp" liquids. Plus the gnome requires periodic upgrading of "Talking Points" (ie. WE CLEAN YOUR TOLIETS!!). Great idea?

If the school board wants to tussle with Antonio, let em! He's no pushover like that cracker Hahn was. We need someone to run our schools that knows our people. Its all about understanding brown pride and Antonio knows something bout that. Comprende?

Anacleto, Antonio doesn't know shit about Brown Pride, he's just given our community one line after another and we bought into it just like a cheap one nighter.

Who appointed Ron Unz, the man who personally financed the death of bilingual education, to a blue ribbon state committee while he was Speaker - Tony the Liar.

Who didn't appoint one Latino to head a powerfull Assembly committee despite the record numbers of Latinos in the Assembly - Tony the Liar.

Who torpedoed the opportunity for a 3rd straight Latino speaker, Tony the LIar.

Who left his Latino Assembly seat to a non-Latino despite claiming that this seat was and always will be a Latino seat when he first ran against a white guy in 1994 - Tony the Liar.

Don't be an idiot and practice blind faith like the majority of our community has been suckered into doing. Tony the Liar is only for himself, brown pride my ass. He's only going after the school district to satisfy his Jewish buddies - beginning with Eli Broad.

History will spell out this whole deception - you just can't see the forest because of the trees right now - get your head out of your ass!

anacleto,

You must be kidding! Yeah, Tony knows about being an asshole in school;is that what "brown pride" is all about?

If Tony wanted to run the schools, he should have applied for the Supt.'s job. You know what Tony wants: Construction contract $$$!(and maybe a school named after him).

I'd like to see him "tussle" with the Admiral. If the Admiral has a contract and a supportive School Board, my money is with the Admiral.

4:26 Our People? What selfish kool aid have you been drinking?
Our we the only people in this district? NO!

If we do what you say and let's be fair here. We may need to find a Superintendent with a little DNA from Latin, Asia, and African American lineage.

Grow up! The race card is getting old! Kids should be educated not catered to by ethnicity.

From news services

Los Angeles city Ethics Commission President Gil Garcetti will likely be fined $1,500 today for donating $1,000 to his son's successful Los Angeles City Council re-election bid last year -- in violation of the city charter.

The former district attorney of Los Angeles County acknowledged co-signing a $1,000 check that his wife wrote for their son, City Council President Eric Garcetti.

*******FROM THE WIFE OF AN AV STAFFER*********

A friend of mine is he wife of a top AV staffer and related some juicy tidbits.

Seems that His Polliness has full time coaches to train him on how to walk, talk, pose, stand, fold his hands, smile, and a myriad of other PR tricks. According to my friend, it is "like a Hollywood production! And the funniest part of the story is that they are using Bill Clinton as the model for his makeover!!!!
They want him to be the "Mexican Bill Clinton"!!!!

EVERYTHING AV does is choreographed and meticulously rehearsed.

BUT the biggest bombshell from this insider is that the reason you don't EVER see AV's wife and kids is because they are "TOO MESTIZO" looking"!!!! AV is ashamed of his family!!!!

As a planning student who is deeply interested in the housing issues in LA, I have been following your rants against Proposition H. I wanted to see what the other side was saying, so I went to the website

www.homesforlafamilies.org/endorse

and looked at the endorsement list for this proposition. It's really impressive. Now I am wondering why this blog is so out of step with the rest of the City?

25,000 LA Democrats can change California politics

Hard to believe? How could only 25,000 in LA out of 6.7 million registered Democrats in the entire state of California, change everything?

Here at Mayor Sam, we exercise independent judgment, rather than falling for the bandwagon fallacy.

You're welcome to disagree, of course, but I hope you'll do it based on your own analysis of the text of Measure H, and not simply support a measure because it has a long list of endorsements.

Bear in mind that the people who stand to benefit from Measure H -- rich developers -- will readily spend over $1 milliion to dupe people into thinking it's good policy. By contrast, the opponents, mere taxpayers, have to work for a living, and don't have a million-dollar PR campaign.

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen (Removes hat and bows low):

Sots, are you there? You've been very, very quiet as of late. Perhaps its not the sots but the bullies who blog, as I have suggested in the past. Wait until Father gets home, and you must go pick a switch from the crab apple tree, savvy? Or perhaps we can let the SoHo girls do it for you?

Speaking of switches, I have heard that the Admiral is equally charismatic as Villabarbosa, and but unequal in terms of selfishness and game playing. It would not surprise me if Villabarbosa meets with the Admiral and not vice versa.

I do have one question, and that is what will happen to Ms. Garcia upon Villabarbosa's return? Will her explaination be one of privately getting a better deal with respect to her tenure or putting a good face on a bad apple?

And what about that lawsuit? Surely all the parties have been served by now. Let's see some interrogatories and depositions! Better not let the court reporters employed in City Hall take los declarciones gravadas. Select one from the pool in the City Attorney's office.

And finally, where the hell is Mr. Dogg? Did Mr. Dogg go to Asia with the Mayor? Or is he in the privy closet under lock and key? Perhaps he's wearing Armani and we don't recognize him....

ROMERO-ON-THE-PLANK, PADILLA, DELEON, NUNEZ AND CEDILLO ALL WALK IN THREE WEEKS. The rest walk in March.

PS: Flat Stanley is registered to vote in CD14. Shallow Hal lives in the front house and Stanley in the back.

My mother always said that it takes all the colors working together at the same time to make the rainbow. This is the same woman who worked in the fields as a laborer to help pay for her college education and became a teacher.

If the new superintendent is open-minded, fair and inclusive then I'm willing to give him a chance not only as the parent of a Los Angeles Unified School District student, but as a voter and God willing a member of the State Assembly.

FYI - had my father's ancestors not decided to be different, his family would have come to the United States from Switzerland by way of Spain and Mexico like the majority of the family did. Instead they came here directly. So I lose out on being a Latina, but my Latin family is proud of me and supports my decision to run for the seat once held by the Mayor himself.

Pride comes from within and is color blind. Pride is also watching a student graduate...from kindergarten, junior high, high school, college, graduate school, vocational school...you name it. It's time we took pride in the achievements that our children make, no matter how large or small. I'll go out on a limb and say that the Admiral would probably agree with me.

I agree with 8:50 and with 7:59. The race card is old, and blind faith gets us nowhere.

Political
Ship of Fools

Someone once said everyone can rise to their level of incompetence if given the opportunity.

The Political band wagon, in this case, is more like a ship. A ship being powered by the need for power and ego, with the force of a gale wind.

On the bridge we find our Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villarigosa. A shrewd politician who is use to getting his way in the halls of Sacramento and at home in Los Angeles. Someone whose talents extend from cleaning your toilets to brokering back room deals to go around the vote of the people and those elected to serve them.

By confusing activity with accomplishment, the Mayor has drawn to his side a crew of political activists and operatives in Sacramento and in Los Angeles. All of whom who see this as an opportunity to capitalize on, for the furthering of their own agendas.

Political operatives come in all party affiliations. In the case of AB1381, Republicans filled the backrooms with democrats and wrote hundreds of thousands of dollars of checks to see the mantel of power shift.

Operatives such as Fabian Nunez, Jackie Goldberg, Gloria Romero, AJ Duffy, and many others, not so noticeable have staked their political careers on the take over of LAUSD.

After meeting with the new LAUSD Superintendent David Brewer, it is clear the mayor’s attack carrier has become the Titanic. With only a few life preservers remaining, the crew of the Titanic must fight for a life vest or sink with the ship. This includes the skipper of the HMS LA , as it is on a collision course with the jagged cliffs of Los Angeles.

What is now clear, is that the future is very uncertain for Mayor AV and those who thought the Board of Education and the State Constitution were an easy prey.

With a battle tested Skipper at the helm of the USS LAUSD, it is “dam the torpedoes and full speed ahead“. The phrase “lead, follow or get out of the way” seems to be appropriate for the crew of the ship of fools.

Apology aside President Duffy, time to take the honorable way out and resign. It is for the good of your union members and governing councils who you ignored in that back room with Mayor AV.

David Hernandez

P.S.

Vote No on Measure R!

Where is Jim Alger? I thought he was going to help democrats in this cycle as he claimed to be a good democrat?
He hasn't been seen at rallies, Democratic headquaters or anyplace else to help any Democrats local or statewide.
I guess his run was ALL about opportunism and not about community and the Democratic Banner.

Dear David and all the other Crazies,

It's unfortunate that you think the LAUSD has somehow outmaneuvered our Mayor.

You guys don't get it -- if this is a CHESS GAME, it was over a long time ago.

Do you really think the Mayor and his team of operatives didn't anticipate the district would hire a superintendent? From what i eam hearing the Mayor's folks the entire time that the district would hire a Colin Powell wannabe and have already made their moves based on that.

Let me set the record straight -- Brewer does a good job -- guess whose career is helped -- the Mayor's. Brewer does a bad job guess whose career is helped - the Mayor's because he said he wanted to be part of the selection process and was denied.

You jokers are getting your panties all wet based on the district moving their pond out of the queen's nest.

David - please name me one battle you have actually won in this city?

Because i have a bridge to sell you in Manhattan.

6:38pm why do you think our midget mayor left the country? Yup, he didn't want to be embarrassed.

9:24am whoever is trying to help Antonio act as if he has class i.e. walking, talking, etc. should get their money back. You can take the gangster out of the barrio but can't take the barrio out of the gangster. No matter what Antonio puts on whether it be a $5,000 Armani suit he still looks and acts out of place cause he has NO CLASS PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
