Making Housing Less Affordable To Fund "Affordable Housing"
The California Association of Realtors (CAR) -- of which I am a member -- just sent me a flyer warning about yet another proposal to increase the taxes homeowners pay in the name of "affordable housing" for others.
State Senate Bill 521 "would impose a new per page 'tax' on document recordings to pay for affordable housing." CAR warns that "if it passes, local governments all over the state will seek to use the same scheme to pay for all kinds of local programs without the say-so of the voters."
Makes sense to me.
But why did they have to put a picture of a middle-aged white man with gray hair smoking a cigar on the flyer to symbolize evil tax-hiking fat-cats?
Also, when will Blogger fix its photo upload feature, so I can put my beloved graphics in my postings? I had a beautiful MLK one for the Sterling story, and a cool house of cards for this one.... [POSTSCRIPT: Blogger fixed the photo upload feature.]

Walter, why are you so afraid of "others"? why do you have such disdain in your heart for people who don't have all the gifts and blessings that you do?

As a realtor, Walter Moore was able to make enough money on the housing boom to sit around and blog all day.

Here we go again. What's the status of this bill? Does CAR have the lobbying power and clout to help kill it? I hope so.
And if Walter has the "gift" of owning a house (as do I, along with the bank of course) I assume it's because he worked his ass off; you know the old school values of education, delayed gratification, saving etc.

Check it out...it only deals with Contra Coste...I thought MS was supposed to be the Home of Los Angeles Politics

Yes, this STATE bill singles out one COUNTY. As the CAR points out, however, it can set a precedent for cities to impose more taxes in the guise of "fees." That is the connection to L.A. -- it's a "head's up" for the next thing we can expect, like the trash tax.

Wacko, you fucked up. You didn't read the small print and thought this was a state-wide issue, with immediate implications on the City of Los Angeles.
With these serious lapses in attention on your behalf, there is just no way that I will vote for you in the 2009 mayoral primary.

So no you believe in slippery slopes? Fucking moron. Go back to Poli Sci 101.

Walter- you need to start reading the fine print you fool. stop trying to get people all hot and bothered over something that doesn't even affect LA. why don't you get upset about somethihg that's real, for once-- like people sleeping on sidewalks on the streets of our city?

Mayor Sam, while we are on the topic of ethics, how much is your site worth? the reason is ask is that you have turned it over to Wacko Walter Moore so he can run his campaign from it. Which I would think would be considered a political contribution. has this been reported? I noticed that you did not do the same for other candidates you were supporting in other races. Jim Alger is one that comes to mind. he answered some of the postings occasionally but never really blogged here. so why the preferential treatment of Wacko? why have you given your blog over to him entirely so he can use it to campaign from? has this been reported? what is the city contribution limit-- $500 I think? does anyone know someone who can tell us what the law says about this?
