City Hall: Riddled With Corruption

The man on the five-dollar bill once said, "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Well, it may not have perished from the earth, but here in L.A., we now have government of the special interests, by the special interests and for the special interests.

Two stories in today's L.A. Times about City Hall provide case studies:

The first article, by Patrick McGreevy, details how Building and Safety has a special unpublicized bureau that provides platinum-level service to the politcally well-connected. Permits that would normally take nine months take only five -- if you're among those lucky enough to cross the velvet rope into the exclusive club. Read it here: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-safety4aug04,0,6121449,full.story?coll=la-home-headlines .

The second article, by Steve Hymon, reveals that the so-called "City Government Responsibility, Lobbying and Ethics Reform Act," which was supposedly proposed by the League of Women Voters, was, in fact, drafted by a LAW FIRM THAT REPRESENTS LOBBYISTS!!!

Now, in view of the ethical duties of attorneys -- I know, that sounds like an oxymoron -- whom do YOU think the draft legislation will benefit: the public, or the law firm's clients? Unless you graduated from the People's Law School, you know the correct answer is "the law firm's clients."

Now you know why, as the City Attorney pointed out, the measure actually WEAKENS ethics laws, and why it is drafted to hide the fact that it lets City Council Members serve 12 years rather than eight. Read the story: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-council4aug04,1,4660008.story?coll=la-headlines-california .

Regardless of your political ideology, we should all be able to agree that corruption and dishonesty are wrong, and are grounds to "throw the bums out." City Hall suffers from the political equivalent of a massive termite infestation. Voters need to "tent" the building at the polls in November and again in March.

You just gave the voters of LA two good reasons to get rid of these clowns. Word around the city is many people lost respect for Garcetti because of his arrogance at city council meeting when questioning Rocky. He was condensending and rude. He was soooo desperate to have the measure passed when Rocky stated neighborhood councils were not informed Eric shot back at him very defiant.

Good job by the Times to shine the light on these cockroaches. Not sure if this will translate into any meaningful, desperately needed reform. Garcetti and the rest of the buffoons are still fiddling.

VOTE NO on the term limits extension/corruption-enhancement measure and VOTE NO on the billion dollar housing developer-payoff bond.

As the time professionally writes 'Garcetti unavailable to comment', I became even more disappointed in him. He prepared so well and long for his joke of a challenge to Rocky during council, and he chooses to avoid responding to the LA Times. I am even more disappointed that he decided to hide the fact that the law firm crafted the language, and he recruited so much of his speically treated constituents to testify on behalf of him and the measure. Unfortunately, I don't think his behavior will sway how the fake superficial progressives (opposed to real progressives who believe in justice) are still in love with his 'silver spoon' image.

Eric Garcetti looks really really bad. People are talking about his horrible Q&A with Rocky and how obvious he made it seem they were desperate to do anything to put measure on ballot. Eric use to be separate from the pack but he proved to us this week that he's just as corrupt, sneaky, underhanded and has no morals what so ever.

Don't waste your time running for those offices. They have too much money and being an incumbant generally allows them a win. In addition, Antonio will endorse them all.

The better option is to actually hold them to their jobs, and pressure them to actually get things done. That will make their lives miserable and not allow them to take fluff trips to Beruit or whereever else they want to start a sister city.

Actually, that is another issue. Zine and Garcetti head off to Beruit...but don't have the balls or sense to actually address the current situation going on right now. Now that L.A. is a sister city, why don't we be sisterly and actually say something.

i'm not saying that that city council went about it in the right way but why is everyone so against extending term limits.

once you put limits on an elected it's the bureaucrats that run the show, and they are worse than any elected official out there! they tie up the system, and because they don't have to worry about losing their job after what 8 years? they can basically do whatever they want.

anyhow, that's my two cents

Let's put things in perspective so people can understand what these clowns, cockroaches and slimy council members want in Nov.

Say you are the CEO of a major corporation. You have 8 years to have the company profitable and productive. You go to your board of directors and stockholders and say "I need four more years to finish my job" I need more time to get things done." THEY WOULD BE FIRED...FIRED...FIRED...

This is why we need to campaign hard against these idiots.

Here's what the clowns have done in the past year

Janice Hahn got busted on video shoving and pushing a security guard while taking protesters inside a barricaded police area in a hotel

LaBonge allowed the rennovation costing $93 million of Griffith and it doesn't have a front entrance for peple who use wheelchair or are handicapped.

Cardenas, Huizar, Zine, Parks, Perry, Garcetti are wimps and signed a letter against Chief Bratton because they said he disrespected them. Mind you these are the same morons who disrespect the public every single meeting by being late to council, talking and on cell phones during council meetings, wasting time with payback presentations. Every newspaper called them crybabies. Read yesterday's Daily News story on Decorum

Zine went off on the South LA Farmers because he didn't like what they said during public comment. He was yelling so much other council members were trying to calm him down. Audio is all over internet. Talk about disrespectful

Parks did something very sneaky with the furniture company in his district taken by eniment domain then someone had another business buy it

Smith got into trouble with the dumping in the valley

Perry got nailed every week for 3 years because she stood by and did nothing to help the South LA Farmers keep their land. Then there was the LA Weekly article stating she was vindictive and lied to get a police officer in trouble cause he was running against her

Wendy Greuel closed the pedestrian bridge at Rye Street in Sherman Oaks on July 21, 2004, and then lied about it.

Huizar allowed a historic Jewish center in Boyle Heights to be demolished. He had the nerve to say he didn't know anything about it.

Wesson supported a twice convicted felon like Martin Ludlow who stole money from hard working people. All newspapers said this was a shameful act from all the electeds who were on the committee for the fundraiser. He wastes council time with pets adoption at Friday meetings

Garcetti showed his true colors and should be ashamed of himself as prez of council being cowardly and sneaky to the people of the city rushing the ballot measure that today in LA Times states was done by lobbysist law firm

Reyes just doesn't have a clue. Asks the dumbest questions and continually makes an ass out of himself during discussions. Really lost it when he made a comparison between Britney Spears and Madonna. Admitted he has a staff of 20 yet get tons of constituent complaints.

Rosendahl consistently blabs he's GAY and he knows how people feel. Is a big supporter of ACLU and is against police officers. Supported Tookie Williams even knowing this asshole murdered a lot of people in South LA and started the CRIPS gang which today is killing innocent kids, women, men

here's the facts:

politics and polititians are a dirty dirty business, but ya know what? it's the people that vote that keep them where they're at. i don't see why ya'll are whining... get over yourselves, you're just jealous...
