Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday
Liberal Democrat Hollywood moguls Steven Spielberg and David Geffen have broken ranks and endorsed Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for re-election. This is a major setback for Democratic candidate Phil Angelides. Spielberg and Geffen say they like Arnold's views on the environment as well as education. Of course, they may also wish to be the first to sign him when he retires from Sacramento.The battle for control of the Los Angeles Unified School District continues. Amendments to the enabling legislation for the Mayor's takeover plan, AB 1381, will prevent City Council control over school site selection. An attorney for the Mayor said Council members will however have the opportunity for input on any decisions.
Will they or won't they run? Is it a yes for Jim Alger against Greig Smith in the 12th and David Tokofsky against Jose Huizar in CD14? I feel we will have some answers shortly.
Zach at In The Oaks was challenged by LA City Nerd to find the closest air raid siren to his Sherman Oaks home. He also found another one and is looking for more.
Tuesday evening, Mayor Villaraigosa, Senator Gloria Romero and City Councilmen Jose Huizar and Ed Reyes and others will hold another town hall meeting to discuss SB 1381 at Sacred Heart High School.

David should definitely run against Jose. Jose hasn't done a damn thing in his district and people who voted for him just like Antonio are very very disappointed in his laziness and arrogance. Just like the city council clowns getting bad press for being arrogant and having bad manners that's exactly what Jose's has done to voters in his district. RUN DAVID RUN
Word is you had to rsvp to be allowed into the very small Sacred Heart Auditorium to attend this meeting. Antonio likes to have his kiss ass crowd at these meetings.

Jose is widely acknowledged to have made more strides toward historic preservation and defending the rights the discretionary rights of local communities than pretty much any other councilmember. He is the king of land use issues -- threatening to shove crazy ed reyes right out the door, in fact. Plus, he fought the council (and antonio) to get his LAUSD reforms on the ballot. he didn't take no for an answer. I like tokofsky okay, but Jose frickin rocks.
It would be great to find someone who would run against Jose Huizar, anyone except David, I personally would not vote for David. But might vote for someone who I feel is more involved with the people of that district, someone who values the community and their opinions and gives the district a chance to an opinion on issues that will affect affect themselves and thier district 14. David is to much of a politician, and should be on his way out,he has no heart.
Tokofsky can have John "Couldn't Get George Washington Elected" Edwards and Robert "Everybody's Bun Boy" Urteaga run his campaign.
That way, Huizar is guaranteed victory!
Or is it "Councilman John" Edwards? Ha!

Bullshit. Yeah, that's why Jose allowed the Jewish Center an historic building to be demolished right in his backyard and claimed he didn't know anything about it. What else doesn't he know about?
And PACHECO is a has been and no one wants him back. CD14 doesn't want the nasty campaign fighting that took place regardless who's fault it was. People are saying anyone but HUIZAR OR PACHECO. We need fresh blood, someone with a vision and good ideas. Someone who CAN WORK WITH THE COMMUNITY.
Urteaga and edwards couldn't get enough people to walk for them the last time because there were too many internal office politics. Those people were too busy kissing butt , to let anyone go out , who was a volunteer , show them up. They wanted all of the credit.
Plus NIck Pacheco showed his true colors with his jealousy over anyone talking with his wife. He scared more people away with that display of jealousy when people got close to his wife than any other issue.
Run, David, run. Jose is a nice guy, but has shown (both on the Council and School Board) that he cannot garner support.
David is a maverick and knows how to deliver. Jose is an empty suit.

Now that Jose is jumping on the LAUSD with Antonio I wish one of the LA reporters would ask him, "Jose you were president of the LAUSD for 4 years and didn't seem as interested, why now are you so concerned now?"
I do not beleive Jose Huizar won this election, Antonio Villar won it, anyone he would have supported would have won. Jose is invisible even at this point. He never did much during his time with the School Board, and is not doing much now except for what is allowed by Antonio, which is why he was The Mayors choice, Antonio wants every job, except the ones which belong to him.
Seems like people are tired of Wendy.
Greuel in Studio City
Re "No more terms" (Your Opinions, Aug. 6):
Wendy Greuel has impacted our Studio City neighborhood also. She slam-dunked the expansion of Oakwood Elementary School over the neighbors' concerns. It's been a traffic nightmare for years in the Woodbridge Park area, which the school adjoins, and now the plan is to double the enrollment of the school without mitigating any of the traffic woes we have already.
The condominium developments on Moorpark Street are completely out of control. Did anyone tell Greuel that there's no new roads to handle the amount of congestion she's bringing to this area? One last point. We homeowners didn't know when we bought our homes that we had to genuflect to the "Studio City Residents Association" in order to get anything done in our neighborhood or get through to Greuel's office.

We don't need another play along with everyone type of guy in CD14, like David T. If you do run David prepare for a big fight. David has no business in CD 14. He never had any interest before, just because he feels Jose is easy to beat. If the Mayor was not around yes, I would agree. There might be a chance someone else may beat Jose, someone we can all relate to, and that is not David T.

Does anyone actually think Antonio would let his hand-picked successor be taken down by an unannointed challenger!? No way!!! Antonio would be out there with Jose, raising money, doing photo-ops, making sure his guy was protected.....
Maybe be true but a lot of people who voted for Jose are not this time round. These city council clowns have really pissed off the people in the city with their back hand deals and the slimy way they put the term limit extensions on the ballot. I think Antonio's steam is petering out. With him too people are tired of all the photos ops and do nothing but LAUSD.
With Antonio's support, Jose cannot be defeated. Without Antonio's support, Jose sinks quickly.

No matter who is in office in CD 14, we are always whining.
Be happy you are not in CD1.
As for endorsements, we would all be wise to NOT VOTE for ANYONE the Mayor endorses, regardless of the office or candidate.
Richard "TELACU" Alatorre once said that David should not represent his area on the School Board because that "he wasn't one of us". If David were to run for CD 14. I am afraid that these latent Racist views would be use against him. Like him or not, a race between David and Jose would be a barometer whether CD 14 can decide a political contest base upon ideas, not ethnicity.

AS a well educated Latino I'm tired of the racist tone during the elections. We want someone who is educated and for the people. It doesn't matter their race as long as they are caring, passionate people. Look how the Latino politicans have thrown this city down the toliet. The weekend papers reported $80 million that goes to gang prevention-intervention has been a waste of money. Yet, look at CD14 where there are more gangs then any other part of the city and what has Jose done about them? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Huizar's concept of historical preservation is having affairs with blonde gringas.

You have to hand it to the 26 cities that have been able to garner attention based on the claim that they will be disenfranchised by the Council of Mayors. Unfortunately, this smoke and mirrors argument belies the underlying truth: none of the cities had any clout or representation at the District….ever.
I have had conversations with staffers with 5 current and former board staffers and all of them have said that their bosses’ focus was on responding to constituent concerns from LA residents. Why? It’s simple. All Board members have an interest in seeking political careers in the City of Los Angeles; a City that has councilmembers that get paid a hefty (and unwarranted) salary. No one seeks to be mayors or councilmembers in these smaller cities because there are no salaries and very little perks.
The bottom line is that these 26 cities will always get ignored as long as they are part of the LAUSD. To think otherwise, is foolish.
This old comment bears repeating.
The answer to solving LAUSD's problems are so simple. We don't need mayoral control although a break up would be nice.
1. TEACHER'S UNIONS = LAZY WORKERS
2. END CHARTER AND MAGNET SCHOOLS AND MAKE ALL KIDS GO TO THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL. IF EVERYONE KNOWS THEIR NEIGHBOR KIDS, IT FOSTERS A BETTER COMMUNITY. IT TRULY DOES TAKE A VILLAGE.
3. MANDATORY UNIFORMS.
4. NO MORE KINDERGARTNERS GOING ALL DAY LONG SO THEIR PARENTS HAVE BABYSITTERS.
5. SMALLER CLASSROOMS FOR ALL GRADES, NOT JUST K-3.
6. NEVER BUS A KID FROM THE USC AREA TO THE VALLEY OR FROM THE VALLEY TO DOWNTOWN. THE POOR KID NEVER GETS OFF THE BUS.
7. END THE OUTRAGEOUS LAUSD POLICIES OF "NO RUNNING ON THE PLAYGROUND" OR PICKING UP PAPER IF YOU WERE "BAD".
8. NO, CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IS NOT THE ANSWER.
9. MANDATORY PHYS ED, MUSIC AND ART.
10. MORE FIELD TRIPS.
11. SAFER ROUTES TO SCHOOL SO NO KID GETS JUMPED BY GANG BANGERS.
12. STOP TEACHING TO THE TESTS. KIDS CAN LEARN AN AWFUL LOT BY PLAYING SCRABBLE. MAKE IT FUN.
13. STOP SHOWING VIDEOS ON "FREE DAYS".
14. BRING BACK CIVICS IN HIGH SCHOOL.
15. MANDATE JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL KIDS TO MENTOR YOUNGER KIDS.
16. ELIMINATE HOMEWORK. IT'S SENSELESS, TIME CONSUMING AND CAUSES RESENTMENT AND THE PARENTS RESENT IT.
17. NO KID SHOULD GRADUATE WITHOUT HAVING TO DO A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE.
18. THE SCHOOL DAYS SHOULD BE LONGER INSTEAD OF THEM HAVING HOMEWORK.
19. KIDS SHOULD ALL WALK TO SCHOOL IF IT'S LESS THAN 2 MILES.
20. BE ABLE TO FIRE BAD TEACHERS AND TEACHERS WHO HUMILIATE STUDENTS ARE BAD.
21. FLUNK KIDS IF THEY HAVEN'T MEMORIZED THEIR MULTIPLICATION TABLES BY 3RD GRADE.
22. STOP WORRYING ABOUT THEIR HANDWRITING SKILLS. IT'S HARDLY INDICITIVE OF THEIR HIGHER LEARNING SKILLS.
23. YOU DO NEED TO PARENT IN A WAY, TEACHERS. TOO BAD YOU DON'T NEED A LICENSE TO PARENT, BUT YOU DON'T.
24. ELIMINATE HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS. SEND KIDS TO THEIR NEAREST PARK FOR ORGANIZED SPORTS RUN BY REC AND PARKS.
25. TAKE DOWN YOUR FENCES.
26. BRING BACK PRACTICAL CLASSES SINCE ALL KIDS AREN'T GOING TO GO TO COLLEGE. WE STILL NEED PLUMBERS, CONSTRUCTION WORKERS, AUTO MECHANICS, WELDERS, ETC.
This is so simple that monkeys could do it. Why is the mayor and LAUSD and all those other legislators making this so difficult? Ask the ones who know. The parents. Oh wait, I don't think anyone wants to ask us. They know better than us because they are "politicians".

Fascism, Nazism Antonio has turned Los Angeles’ Chicano Movement into a Big Brother City. How sorry I feel for the community of Lincoln Heights where parishioners of Sacred Heart Church were turned away and placed outside the Auditorium to watch a Power Point Presentation with repeated propaganda messages urging the poor populace to support the Mayor’s Plan to take over the LAUSD.
Four (4) Bus loads of outsiders were transported into the Auditorium in an attempt to make it look like the community of Lincoln Heights supported his mess. Antonio felt very confident in this stage set-up but marked these words; the community dislikes and distrusts “Vendidos” (sell outs).
Antonio Villaraigosa has wedded himself to the big developers to sellout the community and creates a fascist state where free speech is completely destroyed. How long we have waited to have one of our own, and now that we have him, he is nothing but a sell out, ruthless, cunning, clever and deceptive. He forgets that the History of Mexico is full of his type and eventually they disappear as soon as the next dictator attempts his coupe.
