Friday Morning Update

Hamilton High: Two more people -- students, I think they said on the news -- were murdered yesterday. Can we PLEASE blanket that neighborhood with police?

Sacramento: Governor Schwarzenegger wants to loosen term-limit laws. Yeah, that's the problem: the geniuses in Sacramento just need more time in office to pass better legislation.

Hazeleton, P.A.: City Council passes ordinance to fine landlords $1000 per day if they rent to illegal aliens, and flogging or something -- hey, I'm still on my first cup of Jo -- for employers. My prediction: the ordinance will be invalidated under the Supremacy Clause; Congress, the Court will rule, has "occupied the field" of immigration, such that states and cities can't pass their own regulations imposing additional penalties or different offenses.

And for those of you who say this has nothing to do with L.A., explain that to the editors of the L.A. Times, who put it on page one. Speaking of the L.A. Times, circulation is down. They don't say how much, in the article in their business section, but they DO say circulation is down 5% at the Tribune's "11 metropolitan papers."

Los Angeles: Conversion of apartments to condo's is down, the L.A. Times reports. The explanation? Interest rates are up, and real estate prices are flat. Prediction: they will come down, as they have in San Diego.

Have a great weekend. Remember to enjoy yourself, and this wonderful gift of being alive!

HUIZAR PROVES AGAIN THAT HE CAN’T REPRESENT CD 14

The Joint Commission on LAUSD Governance made some surprising recommendations: (1) preserve the seven-member elected school board as the "primary governing body" of the school district; (2) decentralize district; (3) place term limits on school board members; (4) hold school board members to same campaign fundraising rules as council members; and (5) increase board member annual salaries to that of LA city council members.

Our illustrious council member has decided to champion recommendations nos. 3, 4 and 5. Why? First, and foremost, they don’t run afoul of the Mayor. Huizar will never stand up to the Mayor even where doing so is in the best interest of CD 14.

Second, Huizar’s move to increase Board salaries is just plain wrong. This do-nothing Board should not be rewarded with increased salaries. Monica Garcia, a sitting school board member and Jose’s former chief of staff, is introducing a motion at the District to increase her own salary and that of other board members. This is the ultimate back-scratching that many voters detest.

Jose: Why not champion the recommendations that actually have some meat and substance, like nos. 1 and 2? Take your marching orders from the voters, not the Mayor.

LA Times is down because they have asshole reporters like the fat slob Patrick McGreevy wasting space reporting bullshit. "Tensions Flare Between Council and Chief Bratton"

Parks, Zine, Perry, Cardenas, Huizar signed a letter asking Police Commission to investigate Bratton for making statements against them i.e. "city council is missing in action"

These are a bunch of cry babies led by Bitter Bernie whining not allowing the chief to exercise his 1st amendement right. Who the hell do they think they are???? Everyone send e-mails to police commission and tell them not to waste our tax dollars on this crap. These council members haven't done shit for this city and are the biggest joke as electeds.

Term limits are a two-edged sword. We get new ideas sometimes, but we also 1) lose valuable experience and instead the staffers become more powerful and entrenched than the elected officials 2) lobbyists become more powerful because they can use their experience and money to push electeds not to take risks and 3) electeds just play musical chairs.

I think we should loosen term limits just a little.

Funny how Walter deletes all the posts criticizing him and the way he posts stuff on this blog, such as his lazy dependence on Wikipedia.

Funny.

We don't need more cops, we need new leaders who can convince the blacks that it's ok not to kill each other on a daily basis. Where the hell is MLK when you need him... oh yeah, dead! Maybe this is just Darwinism at its best...

Don't say anything about the black on black crime. Blacks don't like it mentioned because they're in denial. Loved Connie Rice for stating yesterday that 15 yrs olds with AK47's isn't LAPD's responsibility but the communities problem. Right On the Money. The gang problem is the communities problem and where is Bitter Bernie, MAxine Waters, John Mack, Diane Watson, Jesse Jackson and so on?????? None of them has done a damn thing about all the kids being killed in their own backyard
