Open Thread For Wednesday

The L.A. Times reports that the Rampart problem has yet to be solved.

The Daiy News reports that City Councilman Huizar wants to impose term limits on LAUSD board members.

The Daily Breeze reports that a mystery object fell on a golf course.

Mayor Sam couldn't post the thread himself today, but I know he'd want me to say: "Blog away, dum dum's."

(Do you even know what "dum dum's" are? Learn something; look it up.)

Councilmember Jose Huizar’s motion yesterday to increase school board members’ salaries to the same as that for council members once again shows that he has a political tin ear.

First, Jose wants an increase in salary for school board members at the same time that the Mayor is going to decrease the Board’s involvement in district affairs. So, I guess Jose’s reasoning is pay school board members more for doing less.

Second, most employers increase salaries for their workers for a job well done. Jose would like to turn that conventional wisdom on its head and increase salaries at the same time there is increased violence on campuses and over a 50% drop out rate. I guess this is Jose thinking outside the box.

The silver lining to this: Jose is on the Council where he can do less damage to our kids and thankfully not on the School Board.

Walter Moore, what is your position on same-sex marriage? Do you support it or oppose it?

Do not dodge this question (you've ceased posting on the two threads that I've posted this query). It is a local issue. Both the city council and the NC have passed resolutions supporting it.

Where do you stand? Why?

Mark my words: Monica Garcia will make a similar motion before the Board.

It's called back-scratching and it's deplorable.

I agree, Moore.

What is your position on same sex marriage?

Why are you avoiding this question?

You are surprised that "Do Nothing" Huizar has another lame idea? Don't be.

He was a failure at the District and only got a promotion to the Council because the Mayor supported (at the zenith of his popularity) him over his arch enemy: Nick Pacheco.

ok, so you really have no clue what it takes to run a multi-billion dollar corporation, do you?? It's called LAUSD, and you think the Mayor will have time to do it??

The school board is the only answer, and yet they make $24,000/yr and are "part-time" ... and you wonder why the leadership at LAUSD is deplorable. If you have stock in a multi-billion dollar coroporation, and you wanted it to perform well and pay you dividends, you'd make sure it's decision-makers got paid well.

I'm not sure $146,000/yr is the answer, but at least $100,000/yr. Come on, we live in LA where an aveage home costs $600,000, so with all due respect, get you buts back to work on something worthy to bitch about.

I oppose discrimination based on sexual orientation, and I support gay marriage, though I think it would be okay to call it something else, like "civil union."

Also, I wasn't dodging the question; sometimes, I actually step away from computer.

Nor is this a new position for me -- so to speak. Rather, that was one of the first three questions Doug McIntyre asked me when he interviewed me the first time.

I'm also pro-choice. I understand why people are pro-life, but since reasonable people can differ on this question, I think the woman, not the government, should make the call.

The main reason I was a Republican in the past is that it USED TO BE the party that supported limited government spending and taxing. Now both parties are spendaholics, and the Republicans have, in my opinion, let right-wing religious views influence their positions far too much.

P.S. I don't keep reading each thread ad infinitum. Limited attention span.

P.P.S. What's YOUR position on gay marriage, Mr. Anonymous?

Pay increase is a shame to politics. If Board members agree and take the money it will be pay for play politics.

Shame on you for biting board members!

Walter,
I just ceased thinking of you as a wacko who runs for office just for the ego trip and started thinking of you as a reasonable person. So thanks for the position statement.

I read Mayor Sam maybe once a week or so and I think most of the anonymous posters are ridiculous, even when they make comments I agree with.

I respect that you use your real name when you go on the record.

Jose is another Antonio puppet. He's getting the same crap out of CD14 for being a "DO NOTHING COUNCILMAN" Ask anyone in the district and they won't be able to name one thing Jose has done since taking office. He's a joke. His balls have been taken away that is if he had any to begin with. Its weak men like him that are good lapdogs for Antonio. Looks like the Teachers Union took heat for that backroom deal with Antonio. Last night they held a meeting and were angry they the teachers House of Rep was not allowed in the process.
