Memo to Republicans

Following up Walter Moore's post about the LA Republican Party as well as my screed in response to him.

This old dead Republican Mayor is urging all Republicans to not give money to the County Party. Their latest mailer shows how they are SO full of shit, but we knew that anyway.

If you wish to give your money for Republican causes, donate it directly to candidates who you like and who you think have a shot. Give it to Arnold, Give it to Cameron Smythe, Give it to Elton Gallegly.
This old dead Republican Mayor is urging all Republicans to not give money to the LA County Party
Do not give your money to the LA County Republican party. No more gravy trains for do nothing party leaders.

Want to see how lame the County Party is? Check out the sections on their websites titled "Talking Points" and "Candidates." Nothing there as of right now. (But you can bet the online contribution works just great!).

I guess these people don't really want to win.

Ditto for the milktoast (toady) state republican party. What ever happened to the Orange County Republicans the used to join the John Birch Society to expand the base?

These days its hard to tell the difference between a moderate democrat and a California Republican except for possibly McClintock.

"What ever happened to the Orange County Republicans the used to join the John Birch Society to expand the base?"

OC became more upscale, and they pushed all the conspiracy theorists out into the desert.

I used to support the County Republican Party with a donation of at least $1,000 a year. I also belonged to the Lincoln Club and gve money to the State Party.

But Linda Boyd, the Chair of the County Party, and her doofus husband, Doug Boyd, the Treasurer of the State Party took a $35,000 payment (you can call it whatever you want, by the way) from Jimmy Hahn in the last Mayoral Election for "consultation".

They delivereed the endorsement of the County Lincoln Clubs to Democrat Jimmy Hahn, and also got every one of the Republican LA County Central Committee members to endorse Jimmy Boy.

I am refusing to donate to any of them unless and until the Boyds turn over that $35,000.00 to the Republican party.

Am I wrong?

That's some friggen pull, if they got got everyone on the Republican Central Committee to endorse Hahn. I know a few of those people, and that woulda been hard for some of them to swallow.

To Matt: it's all about money. "Party politics" is a ploy used by the rich to divide and distract voters, so they can loot the fisk.

Walter Moore, what is your position on same-sex marriage? Do you support it or oppose it?

Do not dodge this question. It is a local issue. Both the city council and the NC have passed resolutions supporting it.

Where do you stand? Why?

Has anyone asked where 1/3 of the budget goes for the Party... ?!?

$5000 a month to a "fundraising consultant" and $3300 to a "controller" consultant fee

Yet almost nothing is going to voter outreach or registration and the County is spending ZIP on local HQ for this election!

Well, then it seems Doug earned the $35,000. On what basis should he turn it over to the Republican Party?

It is easy to complain about RPLAC but consider that maybe if more money were given to the County Party they would have money to give candidates. The reason that there is no funding for candidates this year is because the funds they take in are just enough to cover basic operating expenses of the County party. There are no funds for candidates. The State GOP is not funding the County party this year for headquarters, as they have in the past. They are doing the headquarters themselves, bypassing the county parties. It is easy to take shots when you don't have all the facts.

Walter complied with all of the requirements to request an LA GOP endorsement for Mayor of Los Angeles. When Mrs. Boyd refused to agendize the endorsement at a regularly scheduled LA GOP monthly meeting, several Executive Committee members signed a petition to schedule a special meeting of the Executive Committee to consider the endorsement. This forced the issue.

I don't know about Doug and Linda being rude to Walter. I can say that I am a loyal Republican. I did not vote for Walter.

I did not think that he had any chance of winning in the primary, and certainly no chance in the general election. Any political group that doesn't face political realities is going to be in trouble. It would not have made sense for the County party to give money to Walter's campaign. It would have been equivalent to throwing it away.

I know the purists will say that is the function of the party - to back Republicans irrespective of their prospects. I disagree. One has to back those candidates who have a chance to win..and unfortunately those who have no chance to win, and can't show that they have independent financial backing won't get financial support from the County.
