Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday
KCAL 9 News is reporting that a would-be liquor store robber was shot and wounded by an employee, Tuesday night. The shooting occurred in the 200 block of West Rosecrans Avenue, near Willowbrook Avenue, in Compton. Now tell the anti-gun nuts that. Its always news when some kid gets a hold of their parent's gun and shoots someone. However, it happens many, many times more often that crime is prevented and even lives are saved by firearms used defensively.
TV's Judge Judy Sheindlen has received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, celebrating her tenth year on the air. Her bonus prize was to appear live with Larry King on CNN, but not for the "full hour."
Anaheim City Council members met behind closed doors to discuss their next option now that they have lost their lawsuit which sought to force Major League Baseball's franchise, The Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim to lose the Los Angeles in their name. City officials plan to refile the case and ask a judge to order the team to change their name.
If you haven't checked out the "Here in Van Nuys Blog," I highly recommend it. While there are many times I don't agree with their politics, nonetheless its almost always intersesting and different. Blogger Andrew doesn't exclusively stick to news about one of the Valley's oldest communities, but he sure highlights and illuminates the area in ways I would have never thought of. His most recent post contrasts the color and vibrancy of buildings and neighborhoods in Central American nations against the often dull, drab colors of the Valley - particulary in Burbank which Andrew describes as having "a fear of strong hues" which "keeps the housing stock safely bland." Andrew suggests that paint manufacturers like Dunn-Edwards could tap any number of recent Central American immigrants to paint the town red (and orange and blue and green).

On guns - keep in mind that many gun laws have NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER on the crook. (If you have decided to rob a store something tells me that you will not stop and say to yourself: self, I can’t do that… it’s illegal to carry the gun to the store). The end result of the restrictive legislation we must endure here in this state is to hinder only the person who wishes to have the gun for self defense. The anti-gun crowd bombards us with statistics claiming not only that gun ownership is ineffective for self protection but the gun we own is likely to cause injury to ourselves or our families. Guns are dangerous – no shit. None the less we should have the right to assume the risk of ownership rather than have someone else decide that we should be disarmed. Lastly, consider this, in Mexico guns are illegal (gee, no gun crime there) and in Canada lots people own guns (dropping like flies from all the gun violence). These countries are very different however, so I urge you to look up statistics for an area which once allowed gun ownership and then became restrictive... look at what happens to the incidence of crimes such as home invasion, car jacking, and crimes involving the use of a gun.
Remember kids: gun legislation = taking guns away from the law abiding

What's the matter Butch? Seeing 800 members with the guts to stand up for what you went into the tank for starting to bother you a bit? You must be really proud selling your members out for a zero COLA in a year where the city put $460 million into their reserve fund. How's that "COLA Re-Opener" going? That sound you hear in the background is your membership preparing to take your scalp...

I know that that previous posting is you John White because as much as you love a penny you got to really hate Julie Butcher at this point for completely screwing up this round of negotiations. Now don't we recall you were one of her handmaidens a few years ago...
