BREAKING STORY: Labor to Endorse Cindy

As we hinted at last week, and one of our readers predicted more than a couple weeks ago, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 2oth State Senate district seat being vacated by Richard Alarcon, Cindy Montanez, has received the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor over her primary opponent, Councilman Alex Padilla.

Apparently it was quite a landslide too, Cindy received 74% of the Fed vote.

It seems that endorsements are starting to go heavily for Cindy. Thats interesting because thats been a major goal of Alexs' campaign. They spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get endorsements rather than doing any other kind of political organizing. You see Cindys people at all the events, whereas Alex campaign is... barely visible.
What gives? Who is working on these campaigns?

Its all about the soliders. Cindy gets that. Alger gets that. Apparently Alex does not.

Alex has received the "quiet" support of Lyn Shaw, Alger's opponent. Didn't seem to do him much good at the County Fed.

Her husband was to busy pitching for Lyn.

You are right though. At the end of the day endorsements won't mean beans it will be the ground game.

Cindy and Jim are playing that game... Alex and Lyn are not.

Alex and Lyn are the kind of politicians whose egos are so big they believe it should be handed to them.

Very true. But that may cost them.

Jim and Cindy are tearing up the town while Alex and Lyn engage in a leisurely stroll.

Landslide my ass, it was a vote with 80 members present, and a 3 vote difference. And further more, cindy is holding hostage labor bills until after the endorsements. kind of chicken@#$% is you ask me. so much for honoring labor.

I wouldnt be so sure about Alex lacking soldiers. He has had a full house at the campaign headquarters every weekendweekend volunteering and out walking in full force.

Its too bad that Sacramento politics got in the way of real labor support. That might have helped Cindy this time around, but Sacto pressure won't help her when it comes to votes.

one thing is for sure, APAD has acquired the 3000+ signitures; has cindy done that? I even heard that some poeple supporting cindy have signed the petition for APAD, and they dont even belong to labor. Tu Cres!

February 13, 2006 2:12 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Sounds like Team Apad's is scrambling... labor has the best campaign operation around...

as for the "3 vote difference" that's bullshit... a County Federation of Labor Endorsement only happens by winning 2/3's of the vote... in my book that counts as a landslide...

as for the holding hostage of bills that's classic Apad and cardenas...session in Sacramento just started dumbasses...

2/3's is a hell of an accomplishment using anyone's standards...

Alex & associates,
THERE U GO AGAIN WITH THAT FUNNY MATH..miscalculating and over counting.
3 Votes my ass. Instead of spinning your votes, you should be trying to save your endorsements....because they're switching mighty fast.

I would sign APADs list just so i can get his fat ass staff of my grass..they kill it!

Another Liar for Alger quotes that Lyn Shaw is doing quit support for Alex. Jim's Union, Laborers' Local 300 invited its' membership, nearly 3,000 strong in the District, to hear both candidates and vote on an endorsement. It went to Alex 63 to 34.
Lyn Shaw has pledged to endorse as the Democratic Club she founded, Democratic Women of San Fernando Valley, goes in its' endorsement meeting. She will not endorse before then.
Alex has endorsed her which probably is what worries Cindy, Miguel

The County Fed has issued a recommendation, that has to be affirmed at the Delegates meeting for Cindy Montanez.
SEIU controlled this vote by having over 30 votes in the room.
Padilla 27-55-9
Montanez 61-21-2

3 vote difference my a$$!!! (60 votes Cindy - 21 votes Alex) 3 to 1 is called a landslide fool.......

80+ delegates for the first vote equals 80% turn-out (not to bad). way better than what Laborers union (3,000+ invited & only 90 turned out)

by the way, those 80+ delegates equals hundreds of thousands of rank and file members.

headquaters? what headquaters? 3000 signitures (with paid staff and a handful of volunteers) i doubt it. if so, turn them in (i guess not). If this is true, maybe Alex should have spent that time taking care of his endorsements. I hope he knows that he could have paid instead of waisting his time and that of the staffs. they'll be plenty of time to walk precincts later.

Not a staffer for Alex, sorry!

The Assembly Rules Committee is chaired by the speaker or the speaker's appointee. The majority and minority caucuses each nominate four additional members; the eight nominees must be approved by majority vote of the Assembly. The rules committee refers bills to committees, and selects and supervises Assembly support staff. It is responsible for expediting procedures and proposing changes in house rules. Members of this committee may not chair standing committees.

So you're saying that there are no bills that Rules has to go through? And that as Chair of the Rules Committee...she can't just wait on bills?

February 14, 2006 12:32 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

actually, no. just because alex likes to put "holds" on bills so he can extort people for his bitch acevedo doesn't mean that's the way cindy operates. besides, she won with 3/4th of the vote. that's not a slim margin, and not a margin subject to the manipulation you corrupt losers simply assume happens.

she kicked his ass because she worked harder. get used to it. you'll have the same feeling in june.

Wonder why Cindy is getting all those endorsements? Could it be she's been having an affair with let's say the photo op politican for awhile now and he's pressuring everyone to stand by his mistress. Alex should hire a PI to get the real story.

Of course it can be done a$$, anything can be done. what im saying is that you claimed she was holding (2) labor bills, Which ones are they? I can say Padilldo pushed forward the MWD contract for the IBEW in return for their support and $$$. does that make it true? in my case it would be true becuase you can look up the $$$ on his contribution statement. But do you have any proof?

didn't think so!!!!

wannabe labor thug, you left out a few campaigns Padilla ran:

Alacran v Katz. Everyone was with Katz, Alex ran Alacrans campaign. WON.

Cedillo for Assembly special election 1998. Alex ran that one too. WON.

Alex even helped out 3 candidates for San Fernando City Council the same year he was running for Council. These 3 were VERY green candidates. They even ran their campaigns out of borrowed space for Alex's office. All 3 of them: WON.

Alex has been involved in more campaigns than 99% of the people on these pages. Me included. AND, he has really done campaigns. Not like the pre-maddonas like LaborThug who come in 2 weekends during GOTV, sip some coffee, BS with the candidate for 45 mins, then go out and walk for 3 hours just so you can say, "oh yeah, I did that campaign, that makes 26 I have done."

No, he has been there for months at a time. How many campgaigns has Sindy done. Really worked on. Give me a break. Give me 20 trained and paid walker and 15 trained and paid phoners and I can beat ANY labor campaign.

So, umm, your logic here is that Padilla was responsible for getting Villaraigosa the Speakership?
