Is Alex Padilla Running for State Senate or Chairman of ENRON?

The folks at the Cindy Montanez for State Senate Campaign are once again having fun with their Democratic primary opponent, City Councilman Alex Padilla. Here's their latest press release in response to a press release put out by the Padilla campaign (we'd show you that press release, but Alex's people are sending them to us):

Surely you’ve seen the release touting Alex Padilla’s fundraising “lead” over opponent Assemblymember Cindy Montañez.

What you may not have noticed is the math his campaign used would make Ken Lay blush.

In fact, Padilla used misleading math to inflate his cash-on-hand number by nearly $70,000.

Padilla is carrying over $25,000 in debt, and also included over $45,000 in general election contributions that he is prohibited by law from spending in the primary.

This Reality-Based Accounting cuts his already minor “lead” in half.

With tricks like these, it’s no wonder the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission hit him with the largest fine it its history.

OUCH! Guess that "gonna raise a million" boast is even MORE discredited now, if that was possible..

I don't even think Alex "Crookie' Padilla even raised that money, I think the crook 'jacked' it from somewhere else.

I mean he does run with that one notorious clique in the 818...everybody's heard of "La Colectiva,' but have you heard about La Familia??

PADILLA HOLDS $140,000 LEAD IN CASH-ON-HAND

Alex Padilla has a $140,000 advantage in cash-on-hand over his opponent, according to campaign finance reports filed by both campaigns yesterday. Since he began raising money in August 2005, Alex has not only out-raised Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez, he has more than $475,000 cash-on-hand. Montanez, who began raising money more than a year ago, has just $335,000 on hand. When it comes to having the resources needed to communicate with voters, Alex clearly has a significant advantage – with more than 40 percent more cash on hand than Montanez. Because she has only raised a total of $450,000, Alex actually has more funds in the bank than Montanez was able to raise over the course of 12 months.

Although campaign fundraising typically picks up steam as Election Day nears, Montanez’s fundraising appears to have actually slowed. In the first half of 2005, she raised $237,500, but in the last six months of 2005 she raised only $211,000.

Of the 17 candidates for Senate in competitive races, Alex raised the most in the last reporting period, which began July 1, 2005, and ended on December 31. Among the same group, Alex ranks 5th in cash on hand, while Montanez ranks 10th.

PADILLA WINS LABORERS’ LOCAL 300 ENDORSEMENT

Alex Padilla won the endorsement of the Laborers’ Local 300, which represents more than 10,000 working men and women. More than 2,750 active and retired Laborers and their family members are residents of the 20th State Senate District.

“Alex Padilla has been a fighter for working families in Los Angeles. We’ve had the opportunity to work with Alex on a number of projects that are important to San Fernando Valley residents -- from the construction of the Children’s Museum at Hansen Dam to improvements to the 101/405 freeway interchange to building the Marvin Braude Constituent Service Center. We know we can count on Alex to stand up for working men and women in the State Legislature,” said Laborers’ Local 300 Business Manager Sergio Rascon.

CONGRESSMAN BERMAN ENDORSES ALEX

Congressman Howard Berman, one of the San Fernando Valley’s most respected and longest-serving elected officials, endorsed Alex Padilla for Senate. Berman consistently receives more than 70 percent of the vote in his Congressional District, which includes most of the 20th State Senate District. He and Alex have worked together on major projects in the Valley, including securing federal COPS funding to help put more police officers in Valley neighborhoods, funding local road improvements through the 2005 federal transportation bill, and the transformation of Hansen Dam into a beautiful outdoor recreational area for families.

Congressman Berman joins a growing list of leaders and organizations who have endorsed Alex Padilla for State Senate, including U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, U.S. Congressmembers Jane Harman, Juanita Millender-McDonald, Lucille Roybal-Allard, Grace Napolitano, Maxine Waters, and Diane Watson, Los Angeles County Supervisors Yvonne Burke and Gloria Molina, Los Angeles City Councilmember Tony Cardenas, LAPD Chief Bill Bratton, the Los Angeles Police Protective League, Los Angeles Port Police Association, and the Teamsters Joint Council #42.

She doesn't stand a chance it she thinks she's going to win by going negative this early. She can't win by just being "Not Alex."

This little debate is interesting. Personally I don't see this Statement from Cindy Montanez as negative. Rather it is just giving the facts that he cannot use some of his money this time around. I appreciate this from her campaign.

padilla reaction blogging team in action! looks like they got in 4 "independent" posts in about 6 minutes. that must be where the pacheco cut and paste team landed.

fact is, alex said he was gonna raise a million. he didn't, and then he used all these dirty little tricks to pump up his disappointing numbers.

too bad for little alex that the spin has fallen from many's eyes, and the RACE IS ON, BABY!

Alex may not have hit his fundraising numbers YET, but he is the same person that folks said couldn't bring a Children's Museum to the area. The museum, the only cultural landmark in the San Fernando Valley, was brought to Sylmar by Alex single-handedly. This is exactly the kind of leadership our district needs.

The only reason that the museum is in Sylmar is because it was DOA downtown. Funny that you give credit to AP.

Alex Padilla is actually LOSING endorsements per se, people are beginning to dual endorse. Yeah, that's momentum alright.

Cindy just announced Supervisor Gloria Molina in an other e-mail releast today..hmmm. Are people beginning to jump off a fallen ship??

Look closely at Alex's money in Dec and the sources it came from. He aint shit w/o out his presidency. He could fundraise because of his position, but then he got REMOVED (contrary to the spin). Now with the Special Election thing over...it's gonna get good.

That e-mail by a Padilla staffer that has been circulating is pretty funny & clearly showing a campaign (ie. Julie Wong) losing its head. Read the e-mail and inquire to them about it and count the the different offices they transfer you too. After 2 transfers Lidia gives you this 818-335-9749 #

Truth is that CM was in AV's camp in round 1 while AP was backing Jimmy. Round 2, once again CM again behind AV while AP was bumbling around late. Minds might be short here, but people remember where loyalties lie in Sacramento.

When have you heard AP be eloquent or even make sense about any issue? CM has stood by her convictions --education, consumer protection--time and again. AP has stood for propping himself up time and again. Give it to the woman.

There goes that big fat tubby jealous girl from the Padilla team moaning about Cindy's illicit affairs. Affairs that nobody cares about. Our president was a coke head drunk. Who cares about an illicit affair and what the hell is an unlawful (definition of illicit) affair anyway? If she didn't do it with 17 year old boys, she's fine.

And if she did, high five from the other women Cindy!

Dont try this "yes sister" BS on us. And don't try to blame disgust at Cindy on fat women.

The bottom line: she is no feminist, a poor role model and obviously has no skills if the only reason she is where she is, is because she slept her way there.

Lidia Soto better be careful if she sent that from her city email. Like John Lee before her, that is illegal and she's gonna get Padilla busted for using city resources for campaign purposes.

i hear he will be dumping his consultants soon.
- they have been out hustled,
- out worked,
- out organized and beaten at every step of this camapaign.(no wonder Hahn lost.

Do the math:
AV's team = Cindy's team
Hahn's team = Padilla team
Cindy Wins = Padilla loses
