David Hernandez to Battle Zev

Some time ago, I called on San Fernando Valley activist and County Seal crusader David Hernandez to run against Zev Yarovslasky for County Supervisor. There are a lot reasons Zev needs to go, the most recent being the Orange Line fiasco, let alone the King-Drew Hospital situation and other county goof-ups.

I am glad to see that Hernandez has answered the call and will be running. Here is his annoucement:

My friends and fellow LA County Seal Supporters, for almost two decades I have been involved in helping individuals and groups within our community.

The issues have varied from public safety, community clinics, education, local environment, humane treatment of animals, and providing services to those truly in need, all of this done while maintaining respect and working with those willing to place the people first.

I have been successful in reaching working relationships with many, including those who do not agree with me politically. We have found common ground from which to build and have come to agreements on how to proceed with respect.

I do not see the incumbent in the 3rd Supervisorial District having the ability to serve the people as they have a right to expect.

I have, after many hours of reflection, prayer and research, made the decision to run for the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor, District Three.

My opponent will be Zev Yaroslavsky and the election date is June 6, 2006. This is a non -partisan seat, there will be no primary. The individual who secures 50% +1 of those who vote, will be the next Supervisor.

The numbers, show us this is a race which can and will be won.

Please visit my web site at www.dave4la.com.

This is the first motion I will introduce once I have been sworn in.
Motion By Supervisor Hernandez AGN.NO._______

I move that a Measure be placed on the ballot to put before voters the question “SHALL THE COUNTY SEAL BE PRESERVED AS DESIGNED IN 1957, RETAINING THE SMALL CROSS -YES/NO”
Thank you for your confidence and support. I now need your help, your prayers and your financial support. It is vital that you support our campaign by making a contribution now. It is unfortunate, but funding is needed to get the message out. Please do what you can today.

You will be able to contribute on line by Friday, December 9th, or you can mail your contribution to Committee to elect Dave Hernandez for LA County Supervisor, PO Box 3245, North Hollywood, CA 91609. The maximum contribution is $1,000 per person and contributions are not tax deductible. ID# 1281489

Sincerely,

David Hernandez

Candidate for LA County Supervisor, Dist 3

PO Box 3245, North Hollywood, CA 91609

P.S.

Together we will succeed.

What are you guys smoking?

Zev could drop dead a month before the election and still draw 80%.

Forget it.

It’s great to see there are still optimists out there. People like Hernandez who actually think they have a shot. He ain’t knocking down Zev. The battle that might be interesting is if Romero runs against Molina. Was that just a rumor or does anyone out there know for sure?

Yes, he ran before as a Republican and got killed. There's no way he's going to come close.

It is doubtful Romero will run with Miguel out of the picture. Too bad ... wOuld have been one heck of a catfight

I remember back before Romero was elected Gloria Molina used to refer to her as an El Torito waitress because of her style of dress. Either Molina was visiting El Torito too often or Romero was trying to hide her light skin and hair.

Zev is not perfect but I will be voting to reelect him. The Orange Line is great. It's not Zev's fault that a handful of people don't follow the traffic laws.

This is great news. Not sure who Mr. Krakover is -- maybe he got his moniker from the rock in his pipe -- but Zev aint that popular. His time has come and gone along with all those other westside limosine liberals from the 70's Bradley era. Si Se Puede.

It's pretty obvious that Zev's staff are the posts at 4:07, 4:31, and 4:43. Don't worry, your cush jobs at the Hall be safe. It is good for democracy that someone challenged Zev. Last time he ran unopposed. He probably won't lose but he should. He's a terrible bully, blowhard who is as corrupt as the 405 is crowded. Go for it, Mr. Hernandez.

Zev should be careful Hernandez will pull more than 20% based on his surname alone. If voters really paid attention, anybody with an ounce of integrity could be beat Zev. He's a fool that is only interested in seeing his fat face in the paper or on TV.

Actually Zev is looking pretty lean these days from all the running. And you gotta love his My Name Is Earl mustache.

Mayor Sam,

Bad call.

This guy is a joke who couldn't beat himself off let alone beat Zev.

You must be breathing too much smog Sammy.

Previous poster about the cross on the seal... good point, that issue will be on the ballot so Hernandez just lost his entire campaign platform trying to pull a Wacky Walter Moore "I'm a Real Republican" stunt when most Democrats think the cross should have stayed. Your not going to "mobilize" much more than the far right wackos with that trick, Bush has been singing that tune for 6 frieking years.

Besides, with the RNC melting down from the top down, Republicans are going to get killed next year. Look at NJ, VA and Arnold who got spanked. The war is getting increasingly unpopular and even die hard republicans are jumping ship.

Your going to have to start doing better than "Limouzine Liberal", "Liberal Elite Media" and everything else you do to make "Liberal" sound like a bad thing... DEMOCRACY is a "Liberal" idea.

Maybe put forth an idea of where you plan to take the County, instead of the divisiveness as usual might be a good start.

But based on your website Dave, you have no substance. Mayor Sam should be embarrassed to have endorsed you so early.

Since someone dragged my name into this, I'd like to note I'm no longer a Republican. I don't think the Republican Party is Republican any more either, judging from, among other things, the growth of the federal government, the abandonment of our border, and the mixing of government with religion.

Zev is a grandstander who is out of touch with his district.

Just look at the LA Times today. His criticism of Sheriff Baca is completely out of line. The jails are filled with criminals. They are dangerous places.

Why doesn't Zev take responsibility for the death and destruction of lives in departments that is directly responsible for such as Children's Services and Health. Kids in foster care are go missing and are killed with alarming regularity -- but Zev does nothing to protect these children who are the responsibility of the County. How many innocent people died at King Hospital because of Zev and his beloved Gathwait? Zev is a finger pointer and incapable of the sort of management that the county needs.

I don't know Mr. Hernandez but I appluad anyone willing to take on Zev.

someone should make an issue out Zev's phony campaign reform from 8 years ago that we just found out could not be enforced.

he's a hypocrit and should be booted off the board.

like so many idealists, he got seduced by money and power and has lost his soul.

I give Hernandez credit for being a doer and proactive. At least he gets out there on issues that are important to people and goes for it. Zev is an old timer and Molina is a fat lazy pig. Both need to go. Why haven't they given Baca the money he needs to stop releasing all those inmates that end up in Skid Row selling drugs? Good luck Hernandez. David gets the publicity and all he has to do is go after Zev's record.

Why the fu*k do you think the County hasn't given money to the Sheriff? It ain't there, dumbsh*t.

Your point would have been taken if you had put the u instead of the * in the word fuck.

I'm more offended at your namecalling than your swearing. Where is your mother? Didn't she teach you not to call names?

Same goes for the poster calling Molina a fat slob. Or making fun of Zev's mustache. How about lazy and ineffective? Bought and paid for? Not that bright? Those are traits that a public servant can expect to be called on. Molina's weight or Zev's mustache? Should be off limits. Your calling an anonymous poster a dumbshit (even though you use a *) is just wrong.

As far as I am concerned the whole LOT of the current Supervisors need to go. They have been in office far too long and have learned to manipulate the people with their false promises year after year.

I also would favor term limits. Two terms and you are OUT. No questions asked.

As for the cat fight between fat ass Gloria Molina and Gloria Romero, ROMERO would be a shoe in as people are fed up with Molina's double talk and no action. Her fat ass has been in that supervisors chair way too long and it is time to get up and go! (she she CAN get up)

Anyone out agree?

Term limits are a lazy man's vote. If people are really tired of the elected, they should get to the polls and vote. Otherwise they should shut up. Term limits have proven to be a real disaster for California. Electeds truly are looking for the next jump because they can't plan on working where they are to do the long term work that needs to be done.

As a result, bureaucrats and holdover staff with institutional knowledge are running the districts.

Mayor Sam, please put out a topic on term limits in general. I think it would be something fun to debate and, of course, laugh at the bloggers who will simply yell simplistic epithets at their least favorite elected. Whaddya say Mayor Sam?

Yer all nuts. Only a name and rep can challenge any of these Supervisors. Each one of them represents over 2 million people!

The big shame is that the press doesn't cover them. I mean, each one of these sups represent more people than some Senators in DC!

All these sups will continue to get elected until the press begins to educate exactly what these 5 very powerful people are doing. hell, they control our healthcare and social services. Call the inkblotters!!
