But don't let the headline from the Times fool you. The hits come about 6 or 7 paragraphs in...Villaraigosa took the unusual step during and after the campaign of returning $92,000 in potentially questionable contributions, most of which came from out-of-state donors.
About 75 of the contributions, totaling $45,000, were returned in August after an internal review discovered contributions from individuals and corporations that exceeded the legal limits, and checks that did not have the required identifying information.

City law limits individual campaign contributions to $1,000, but 12 contributions to Villaraigosa, including money from Secure Wrap of Miami Inc. and Global Baggage Protection Systems of Miami, were found to be from duplicate sources, exceeding the limit by $9,250.
The audit does not mention an investigation by the Ethics Commission staff and district attorney's office into whether $47,000 in contributions to Villaraigosa from employees of two Florida firms — S.E. Florida Investments and Travel Traders — and others from out of state may have been illegal.
Some of the donors had trouble explaining their $1,000 contributions to a city candidate 3,000 miles away, leading to probes into whether they were reimbursed, an illegal act called political money laundering.

Haven't you guys figured out that Antonio loves conflicts between his friends so it gives common working and middle class folks likes us thinking and believing that he's WORKING. So that in the end he comes into the scene and the cameras like Prince Valliant and saves his maiden Los Angeles, and recieve his photo-ops.
Think of this administration as watching the WWE, you know it's fake but you go along with the story line because it's entertaining. The interesting thing to watch will be the Airport Concessions Master Plan. Well under way when MAV took over, if there is a sudden change in the plan that might make it easier for certain Florida based airport vendors to do business here, it would be a clear case of MAV conducting "pay to play" at LAX. Since the draft Concessions Master Plan was widely circulated, it will be plain as day if it changes direction. $47,000 in campaign contributions from people in Florida who didn't even know who MAV was when asked doesn't pass the smell test.
