Dennis B. Underwood, R.I.P.
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Dennis B. Underwood, who was appointed in April to head the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, died from complications of cancer, it was announced today. He was 60.
Underwood, a former U.S. Bureau of Reclamation commissioner, died yesterday at his home in Alta Loma in San Bernardino County, surrounded by family and friends. He stepped down from his post at the MWD on Oct. 27.
"The water world has lost one of its most accomplished and humble leaders," said Wes Bannister, chairman of the MWD board. "The underlying theme of Dennis' entire career was to balance needs with grace."
Bannister ordered flags at all MWD buildings flown at half staff in
Underwood's honor. Funeral plans are pending.
