First Meathead, Now Lucy*

Due to increasingly outlandish and over the top protests by wacko animal rights activists, the City Council has approved a plan to provide security at home for Department of Animal Control employees.

One of the head wackos is Pam Ferdin of the Animal Defense League. She told the Daily News' Rick Orlov that if the animals are taken care of the wacko's satisfaction, threats against city workers could go away. This The Animal Liberation Front is the group that claimed responsibility for setting off a smoke bomb in the apartment building where Animal Services Director Gordon Stuckey resides. We reported previously on the new car city union kingpin Julie Butcher bought after some animal wackos destroyed her last one.
They should spend this money on improving the shelters and adopting a no-kill policy," Ferdin said. "It isn't the workers who live in fear. It's the poor animals who are kept in these shelters and killed without cause."

You may remember Ferdin (then known as Pamelyn Ferdin) as the voice of Lucy in the Charlie Brown specials in the 70s, as well, she played Tony Randall's daughter on "The Odd Couple."

Don't you hate it when these old 70s stars get involved in politics?

*Update: As noted above, we mistakenly attributed the smoke bomb attack on Gordon Stuckey's home to the ADL. It was the Animal Liberation Front that claimed responsibility for that action. However, MOST of these animal groups are pretty far out. Betty White - the television actress who has served on the LA Zoo Commission - describes herself as an animal welfare advocate, not an animal rights activist. She's active with mainstream animal welfare groups such as Actors and Others for Animals, which is a very distinguished group with a long history of positive action for animal welfare. This is a far cry from groups like People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals who compare the eating of meat or animals in the circus to the holocaust and slavery, respectively. Can we get any more wacko than that?

The people are SO pissed at ADV for not firing the guy after promising repeatedly that he would. They took out full page ads in pet publications promoting him for mayor - everything short of IE status. Look for the recall petitions to start soon from this group, and they DO have a huge network, and lots of "enthusiasm" for their little pet -- (I mean) animal partners.

But AV will cave to them. He's just waiting for a way to make it more profitable that it has already been. He like to be both the enemy and the cavalry, in the same soap opera.

Let me see if I understand this our tax dollars are being spent on cameras to protect city employees even though we are in debt $300 million and most communities could use those cameras to catch criminals. What a bunch of losers our city council is.

5:03 - Moron, these are criminals! Those cameras wouldn't be necessary if nut-cases weren't threating people. One of these threats is bound to get out of hand and kill someone, whether it gets the actual target or someone near to them.

I guess she, Ms. Ferdin who grew up in the Los Feliz area I think, admitted this terrorism on city staff...

See it all comes back to CD14.

Not all animal people are part of ADL. I placed ads in various publications for AV. I am not part of ADL. I placed the ads because I believed in his animal platform. I do not condone the actions of ADL or ALF. Please, don't lump us all into the animal nut terrorist category. There are many sane people in the animal world. We are just not as vocal or "out there" which the media seems to prefer.

A correction to Mayor Sam. ADL did not take credit for the smoke bomb at Stuckey's residence. ALF did. I don't believe ALF took credit for the union leaders car incident. She initially stated that it was probably related to her union leader position. It was in City Beat I believe.

I would like to see the Mayor keep his campaign promises.

Workers in LA's Animal Services department want the same thing the rational and sane animal welfare/rights activists want: to keep LA safe -- even for 3-foot high Angelenos -- and to find homes for every animal that can be adopted. They're doing their jobs & these folks are terrorizing them. How does this help the animals?

Rumor that Animal Services Commish has banned "live" food (like what snakes rescued from fires prefer). A little species-ist, no?

A little species-ist, Julie? You have proven to sell out your members, brow beat them, sell us respect at the cost of one year's salary increase, use our union's website for your own self serving purposes, and you worry about species-ist. It's time for you to go the way of the "live" food...out of here. You're smelling real bad and we need a breath of fresh air!!!!

Julie the Butch a Kingpin? Her attitiude is similar to Saddam, but I'm sure Kingpins would take offense at the comparison. The only power she displayed was what was given to her by Jim the Jester Hahn, but in case you haven't noticed... he's gone. She should go as well since the butt her lips were attached to is gone.

Mayor Sam, are you on crack? Julie a Kingpin? I laughed so hard I think I spotted. Thanks for the humor.

What ever happened to earning respect? Julie doesn't know that way. What did she get out of the deal, eh?

It's not advisable to feed live animals to reptiles or other pets. Dead mice, rats...are safer, cannot harm the pet, are less likely to carry disease or parasites. There is no reason to feed live animals to pets except to amuse some sick people. The ONLY time one needs to feed live animals to other animals is if it's a wild animal which must learn how to catch live prey so it may be released back to the wild successfully.

So the Pam and Jerry Show continues. Wicked whispers say that if you really want to piss off Ms. Ferdin just tell her "woof-woof". It seems that for all of her rantings, she REALLY doesn't like canines. Also, what positive, practical good works have Pammy and Jeery ever done on behalf of animals. We don't count their self-important blatherings as doing anything but turning off the public opinion of ALL who do good work in the humane community. By the way, perhaps the Family Vlsak/Valsek/Vlasick should check out their Thomas Guide. They actually reside in Ventura County. Why don't they take their pathetic dog and pony show elsewhere. Their routine is old and tired. We wonder what their would do if people marched up and down Yeerba Buena protesting their abode?
