Open Letter to Readers

I wanted to spend a moment and offer the following thoughts and disclaimers regarding my participation with Mayor Sam’s Sister City for the record.

1) As of Friday, September 23, 2005, I ceased being associated with Robert Hertzberg or BigIdeas4LA.com. I wish Bob nothing but the best. However, our paths in the road are headed different directions and it is the correct time and place for me to venture on a new road.

2) As for past items I have blogged or written on this site, they were done solely by me WITHOUT Bob’s knowledge. The conspiracy theorists among you will probably choose not to believe that, but it is true, and you can contact him through his website to confirm it. I helped start the Sister City after a very public offer (LA Observed’s post on the issue) to the previous Fourth Floor Blog. I am solely responsible for all of Mayor Frank’s comments and posts. Just for the record, I’d also like to point something out that most naysayers and “professional journos” got wrong. Note the posting times for Mayor Frank in the archives. They don’t overlap with Bob’s campaign for Mayor. It was a nice try though. I pushed content to a blast list including 35 blogs and media outlets during the campaign. Those blogs contain can all vouch for the spam mail sent from me. We even got into public spats (December 5th, 2004) with our new friends over at Martini Republic over issues.

3) As for Roderick, he just doesn’t like it when he is told his shit stinks like the rest of us. Note his reaction to simple ribbing on Friday with Monday’s personal diatribe towards me. What makes no sense to me is that if I am such a “ juvenile” and the “least professional of the Sister City bloggers,” why the need to call me out the way he did? Why the hostility in the initial outing? The answer is that he realizes that we have honed in on something he once had to himself, but couldn’t handle. And now he actually has competition to call him on it and keep him honest. Can both blogs co-exist? Of course they can. Dgarzila couldn’t have summed it up better. Now Roderick just has to actually source his work and can’t play lord over everyone else. I’m sure the personal attacks will continue towards me and he’ll probably attempt to dance a jig thinking his little stunt on Monday somehow forced this hand, but he is wrong. I took a three week absence from posting on Big Ideas earlier due to personal family reasons, and those reasons still exist today. At some point people just have to choose what matters in life and make choices. Right now, as always, my family wins out.

The Future: Mayor Frank will blog on, so, here is your invite to blog away, and I look forward to continuing the fun.

So WHY haven't you told everyone about the so-called "local terrorist" outed by a community paper in CD14. . . the neighborhood council hellion. . . the latest Villaraigosa-appointed commissioner now under fire at HOME in Northeast L.A. (hint: all three connote the same person).

You WERE "tipped off."

'So-tell-a" us, Mayor Frank, don't settle for a follow-on to the TIMES, like Roder-dick would.

Your post is amusing. The entire explanation is absurd. I know you were Hertzberg's fall guy. Do you think we are stupid? You and the gang of villaraigosa droolers spun this site from the very beginning. I knew who you were and didn't say a thing, but now I know you give false explanations. The truth is ugly and the involvement of other key players will disgust the public.

Right, poster 9:12. Mayor Frank still spins. Bull shit on the reference of Mayor Frank not associated with Huggie Bear. He is AV's blog thorn. Not a troll, but a thorn. He baits the media, they bite what av wants them to bite. Mayor you will never tell the truth, Huggy Bear and Villaraigosa own you!

One thing that we could see from afar was that the Hertzberg campaign must have felt pretty golden, like a special place in a special time. I have been in a campaign like that, and the energy is remarkable. As was Hertzberg's achievement, parlaying mere Valley cred into a run on the Mayor himself, against all prevailing winds and boundaries and demographics, and falling just short of a runoff despite the immense odds.

But ordinarily, nothing deflates faster than a losing campaign (and it should do that) and the fact that there was subsequent Hertzberg afterlife at all is more indication of the golden quality of the moment than any kind of dissatisfaction. Everyone's on a different path now, I think (I see Matt Szabo is carving out yet a different path as well, and sometimes even sounds more like Matt Welch than Matt Szabo). So what you walk away with is all that you learned; when it's in that kind of an environment, it's stuff you'll probably never get the same opportunity to learn again. It probably looked like the work itself was the purpose, the harvest itself--but it wasn't, it was just joyous work. It's good to be forming distance to it; it's time to let go, to reap the bounty of the harvest at last.

I didn't get shit from Hertzberg. He never had a hand in this blog. I don't Hertzberg shit and he don't owe me.

Mayor Frank, kudos to you! You have made this blog what it is, way more than I ever could. Thank you.

I have to agree with you. The quality of this blog has seriously dropped (as have the number of posters) since Me Hay "came out".

Was alot better when everyone was anon.

True not nearly as many bloggers as before you were outed. The articles you post are merely distractions especially when Antonio is getting blasted or Jose. You should be ashamed that you allowed an idiot like Mike Trujillo aka Chief Parker to slander, defame, humiliate and attack innocent people simply because they didn't agree with his loyalty to Antonio. They all deserve an aplogoy.

Mayor Frank even tried to "cover" for CHIEF FAKER on the 80 FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH ORGANIZATIONS B-S line about how they had to stay "secret" for their own protection (i.e., to protect AV's fake legacy).

The ONLY "secret" watches in this or any major city; so secret the FAKE members don't even know when and where the meetings are held.

The Mayor HAS no real legacy in L.A. politics, and the one he's working on now is nothing more than redundant, serial photo-ops.

Jury duty over? What's next? Filling potholes, riding mass transit (sorry, done that already). How about baking cookies for inmates? Or, handing out maps of DOWNTOWN PASADENA to homeless derelicts on skidrow (for when they head home)? Maybe rescuing beached whales off an L.A. shoreline? Ever the "do-gooder; always the do-NOTHING!

I don't mike trujillo said 100% of chief parker's postings.

there were 10 different bloggers according to the Times and the Daily News referenced that he was one of many chief parkers.

plus pissing off trujillo is the last thing anyone in this city should even think about doing.
