1) MAV gets the publicity, the cameras, and the chance to use the bully pulpit again for a very important issue that we all now know needs tons of attention after the beatings we are all reading about.
2) Maybe we can call a truce about all of the neighborhood watch crap that the Pacheco-istas can't seem to get over when it comes to our own Chief Parker.
Parker can't post that info because the very nature of neighborhood watch groups is destroyed if the participants are disclosed. Their ability to get volunteers to participate is based soley on the measure of safety from retaliation that they need to provide for the tip-sters. The most important measure is to protect their identities. Thus, he can't post where all of them are, nor will you see anyone else including the LAPD.
On the other hand you have the Pacheco-istas who can't grow up and get past it.
Here's an opportunity for both sides to get a win win. Neighborhood watch gets supported and the Pacheco-istas get a perfect example of MAV showing that he does care.
The challenge has been called. Let's see what happens!

Maybe the Pacheco-ista's can post the thousands of signatures they allegedly collected to recall Councilman Villaraigosa?
Eliseo Villanueva constantly told us he had almost enough and was going to get the rest of the signatures, yet, when the moment came, not one single, solitary signature was posted.

B.S. The neighborhood watch issue can be put aside very easily. We understand the privacy issue for discloure of where the meetings take place.
All Chief Parker has to do is ask CD14 or LAPD Hollenbeck and Northeast covering CD14 for the DATE when the neighborhood watch was started and who the SENIOR LEAD OFFICER is for the particular meeting. This doesn't disclose any private information on where they take place or who is ivolved.
We all know they don't exist but Chief Parker wants to protect Antonio from his big lie and refuses to investigate.
ADV needs no excuse to hold a press conference.

I'm a part of a neighborhood watch in Hollenbeck, have been for some time.
The contact information and dates, locations of meetings is regularly posted on Internet-searchable listservs. This is ALSO true for the half dozen or so REAL, ACTUAL, neighborhood watches that DO exist everywhere else in Hollenbeck -- most of which existed before Antonio became a councilmember.
During the height of Chief Faker's hypocrisy, bloggers posted the names and general locations of SEVERAL of these REAL neighborhood watches, here -- there names are in your archives for Highland Park, Eagle Rock, Hillside Village, Montecito Heights, and several others.
They ALL post their info and meeting details PUBLICLY! EVERY MONTH! They're NOT secret, otherwise community members would never know how to join, who to report misc. matters to between meetings, etc. etc.
EVERY SLO in Hollenbeck and Northeast divisions has said privately (no publicly, THEY don't want to lose their jobs to AV's vindictive machine), that there are NOT 80 "new" -- not even one-tenth that many TOTAL?
There's only ONE reason Chief Faker can't post this information.
IT DOESN'T EXIST!!!
Originally, the lying scum Parker said he CALLED LAPD (repeatedly... 80 times?) and they GAVE HIM THE INFO over the phone.
Now it's a state secret?? Now all those regular listserv and newspaper postings of meetings, and the LAPD'S PHONE INFO were in ERROR???
What about all the BIG red & white signs that tell people "this is a neighborhood watch community" -- better go TEAR THEM ALL DOWN (shhhh, it's a secret!)
AND, what about the "NIGHTS OUT" just recently all over the area. Neighborhood watch participants were asked (no BEGGED!) to come out and walk PUBLICLY through the crime-ridden streets of Northeast and Hollenbeck, as a show of force -- to TAKE BACK THE STREETS.
Their pictures were in local papers, BIG AS LIFE. Where was the fear of "retaliation" -- the need to "hide" their identities.
I didn't see a SINGLE DAMN particpant, wearing a Mardi Gras mask!
The whole "we can't disclose" is the BIGGEST damn scam this blog has EVER tried to pull off to cover for a moderator's hypocrisy. This beats Janice Hahn's park job by a mile!
(Mayor Fraud, YOU are now ALSO a co-conspirator with Chief Faker, and an accessory after the fact of his bogus research, regardless of who you've endorsed in CD14).

That's never been the case, and I've lived in CD14 for nearly 40 years.
Either Parker was lying then about getting the names of watches by calling LAPD, or he's lying (and Mayor Frank is lying for him), now.
Or both.
The chief has been lying kind of low since he posted his last petty, vindictive "who's hot" list.
Someone must be picking on his most obvious self-inflicted scab that won't heal.
Time to retire Chief "Parke's" avatar and come us with something with less baggage..

Absolutely, previous bloggers. Half of the "deterrent" nature of having a neighborhood watch is for the petty criminals to know that someone might be watching. Hiding them would be like taking down the "security patrol" signs or the "watchdog on premises" sign at the junkyard.
I said it before, I'll say it again.
The "80 neighborhood watches" was a silly spin tactic AV's people put up when they realized he hadn't done anything at all while in CD14 as CM, expect for a few mass cleanups, most of which were called AFTER he announced he was running for mayor - part show/part campaign event.
His staff attended a couple of meetings HELD BY LAPD, not CD14 council offices, to start neighborhood watches in a handful of location (5-6 at the VERY most).
And then, when the AV record looked scandalously thin for two years work, some campaign spin-doctor (probably Skelton), said "how many people signed the sheet saying they were interested in being a part of one" (if they ever got organized.

80 PEOPLE expressed "interest" (in a half dozen locations)
NOT 80 ORGANIZATIONS (each of which would have dozens of people involved).
Then, they got caught, and had to invent a reason, why suddenly, effective early 2005, neighborhood watches had to be "secret" (not even there NAME, general location, or start date could be divulged.
But Chief Parker was the biggest doofus - he decided he needed to pretend there was some way to prove this. And THEN he got his nuts caught in the trap (or tits in a wringer) -- whichever applies, or both.

Regardles of whether you support Pacheco, or Huizar, or Ruby De Vera! for gods sakes, you should want this silly lie uncovered. How's poor Jose going to explain, four years from now, that he only started TWO neighborhood watches, in FOUR years (should be win).

They're aren't 80 neighborhood watches in the ENTIRE CITY. Antonio made up one of the biggest lies of the campaign and Chief Parker or any of you who post on this blog has the balls to tell the truth that he was lying. Look up the LAPD website and you can see all the neighborhood watches listed YES EVEN THE ONES IN SOUTH LA. Excuses, Excuses aren't working anymore. Agreed poster LAPD officers have stated emphatically THEY DO NOT EXIST but are terrified Antonio will make them lose their jobs just like when AV threatens community members. Wake up Chief Parker Antonio is nothing more then a thug in a suit.
This sounds odd to me...can't disclose proof of 80 neighborhood watches. A politician would want prove this information, I would. The Pacheco supporters might have opened a can of worms. I have no idea if these neighborhood groups exist or not, the important point is Villaraigosa should have records, and if the public disclosure, it should be granted. Many groups have their information public already. Who knows what the truth really is...

Do you realize that if AV hadn't told that lie about "not running for mayor," back in 2003, and just 1 out of every 6 or 7 voters had refused to vote for him due to his short-termer intentions (not out of the realm of possibility), Pacheco would have won.

This is not to attack Villaraigosa, but maybe his campaign strategists took this accomplishment a bit too far. It could be possible the marketing machine went overtime and spit out nonsense during the election. This could have been out of Villaraigosa's hands and the plan of another. Don't you remember that in the central and eastern portions of Los Angeles, from Boyle Heights to Eagle Rock, Villaraigosa's share of the vote was appoximately 80%.

I voted for Villariagosa and did not use the 80 neighborhood watch #'s at all to sway my vote. I do not regret my vote and stand by it, but I still hold him accountable for any good and bad decisions.
The 80 NW topic is interesting and anyone with proof should post their findings. Villaraigosa won, but if new information came to surface of lies, I would not mind knowing.

Anything is possible, if you know more than us other bloggers on how "hands on" he was during the campaign, then let us know. This is why we need people like yourself to tell us. Wake us up, if there is malicious intent to deceive the public, we should know. For now, I can only go by what people have said, and proof has been difficult to get. Again, I am not saying he didn't know, but for now, all we can do is rely on real campaign insiders, and if you are one of them, please post.
Where did you read that I feel Villaraigosa should be in charge of our schools? Nope. I do not believe this move will help LAUSD, but I hope he proves me wrong. I care about students future too much, and this time I would not mind to be proven wrong on that subject.

This is Monica..
I received e-mails that Chief Parker threw my name out there pertaining to the "created" neighborhood watches. I do not have a list because as many of the police officers have told me they do not exist. A public information form was filled out but CD14 staffer (Lisa Sarno)didn't complete properly and gave no information of their existence.
AS a poster wrote all Chief Parker has to do is ask LAPD Senior Lead Officers for the date they were created and which Senior Lead Officer is responsible for each one. No privacy issues disclosed. Simple way to end the controversy.
