New DWP Appointments and Union Contract Fallout

Villaraigosa officially named his new appointees to the DWP Board yesterday, then promptly handed off the hot potato union contract on their laps.

Per the Mayor's press release:

The five new members of the commission include: Mary D. Nichols, an experienced and nationally recognized environmental leader, former Clinton Administration appointee and current Director of the UCLA Institute of the Environment; Mr. David Nahai, a member of the Regional Water Quality Control Board and the California League of Conservation Voters and longtime environmental advocate; Dr. William Burke, Chair of the South Coast Air Quality Management District; Nick Patsaouras, an experienced businessman, visionary leader and public servant; and, Edith Ramirez, a highly successful Los Angeles attorney.

Stories in the Times, Breeze, Business Journal and Daily News

Now for the hot potato per the Daily News:
"I do have some concerns about how rich this contract is, make no mistake about it," Villaraigosa said. "But I have been advised by legal counsel that we could face legal action. I think this is something the current commission should deal with and pass on to the City Council to decide."
Let the fun begin and stay tuned as we await the next installment in city chambers soon!

Will Bill Burke be moving into the City of LA? Maybe he can share the room that Joe
Radisich is renting in San Pedro.

^ Oh you did. Poor, poor you.

I was going to vote for AV but when I got to the poll, I voted my instinct and gut and voted Hahn. Because I didn't trust Bernard Parks or Supervisor Burke's endoursement. It seemed like he was fulfilling a grudge.

UNION REPORTS:

AFSCME librarians haven't signed their contract and they are waiting with baited brief for a shot a higher rate of compensation.

Julie Butcher and SEIU 347 are not rolling over either. They have something planned for for the very near future. Stay tuned.

Bob Aquino and his cronnies are still at impasse and fact finding is still going on but EAA has no contract and they are watching AV and this new board with interest. But I can tell you Vitriolic Bob is going to be more than a pain in the ass than Julie.

Antonio should get major props for bringing in Mary Nichols! As President, she'll redouble efforts to push DWP toward renewables.

Antonio can't get out of the DWP scam pay hike. Its being done on his watch and now with his appointees. Everyone is waiting! Will Rocky come through and find a legal loophole to stop it? Will city council clowns fold and vote to approve? Either way its a no win situation for Napoleon Syndrome Antonio.

^Why do you think the News Media, gave a nice chunk of their pages about How Janice Hahn parked illegally in a hnadicap zone.

It's all about spin baby. The AV administration has learned a lot from Bush/Karl Rove.

Anything learned here was started with the Masters of Spin - Bill and Hillary. Don't believe it? Watch the "fact finding" trips that are going to made to Iowa and New Hampshire (LA Times today). Which demo has the largest war chest that resides in NY? Come on - the right wing can't be blamed for everything.
