Ludlow in a Pinch?
While the outcome of the pending election of Martin Ludlow to head the LA County Fed on Monday has all the excitement of watching ink dry, the repercussions of the move are just heating up.As the Daily Breeze reports, the LA City Ethics Commission recently sent Ludlow a little love note addressing the following issue:
Ethics Commission Executive Director LeeAnn Pelham, while refusing to comment directly on Ludlow's circumstances, said the law applies to more than only registered lobbyists. Former council members must wait a year before being paid to have "any direct communication" with any city agency if the purpose is to affect the outcome of a pending city decision, according to the Ethics Commission letter."The issue here is assuring that there's some period of breathing room so city decision-makers don't feel unusual pressure from someone they may have recently worked closely with," Pelham said. "But it's also to provide assurance to the public that someone isn't trading on their public position for private gain."
Isn't this his job? Well, he sees it differently:
An activist with a lengthy union resume, Ludlow said he had been briefed on the city's ethics rules and concluded that it only applies to discussions of specific contractors. Ludlow said his work is not lobbying and that he has no need to register as a lobbyist. Why do I have a feeling the only ones who are going to make out in this are lawyers? Let the shenanigans begin!

Maybe Ludlow can resign, be jobless for a year, file for bankruptcy again - then start his $140,000 a year job with the County Fed next year.
The lobbying question can be handled very easily - there are dozens of hungry lobbying firms out there. The County Fed can afford anyone of these. Watch Victor Griego's firm, DSO, be the first in line - that is if Skelton doesn't beat him to it. But Martin did begin his political activism in California working for a Griego project - you know, the one where they registered hundreds of voters at local cemeteries.
Can this be the first chink in Tony's ethic's armor?

Labor leaders are lobbyists and need to register; failure to compel this is a violation of law for which the lobbyists, who do register, will react by filing a suit to compel the City to act.

Isn't the timing just a tad fishy.?
There was a pending FBI Investigation on him during the runoff election that the LA Times and Daily News never mentioned because they endorsed AV, that would have given Hahn an actual chance to win the election.
Now that AV is now going to be sworn in as Mayor, Ludlow can exit quietly from that investigation, to keep his ethics image in tact. Even City Controller Laura Chick can't say a word because some of her staff is now buddy-buddy in AV's office.
I already see this as the first sign of more BS and Mismanagement of AV mayoral term.
