Back to the Races

Mayor Sam posted a week ago regarding the LA Marathon troubles. It turns out, that was only the beginning.

The LA Wave reports today that the accusation of Dermot Givens made last week that mayoral candidate Bernard Parks is running his campaign like “a plantation” — in which the whites get paid and the blacks work for nothing — brought forth comparisons from community residents, including a couple of venerable and respected journalists, to Los Angeles Marathon Inc. They say William Burke, the marathon’s president, is running an even bigger plantation than Parks.

This could get VERY interesting...

As a white male, I am offended Bill Burke won't hire me!

City Council better show some balls and STOP waiving the $370,000 special event fee for the LA Marathon. The marathon is making thousands off this city and how dare they not pay the fee.

Bitter Bernie has never gone out of his way for his own people. Case in point, what has he done for all the black on black violence in his district? NOTHING. Doesn't like anyone to bring attention to the fact that black people are killing black people and innocent children every month and not one black politican or celebrity could care less.

So now we're back to Bitter Bernie? Will you find a way to work in Antonio into this too?

I'm sure who ever is questioning Councilman Parks' relationship with the black community is not from the black community. So, you can hardly be an expert. You're probably one of those people who goes around saying, "Some of my best friends are black". Actually, with the continuing comments about "Bitter Bernie", you're probably a member of the super racist Police Protective League. Funny how it's a nickname they made up but none of them would ever have the guts to say it to his face.

I live in Bitter Bernie's district & participate in our local block club & neighborhood council. Many politically savvy residents are none-too-thrilled with Bernie's performance, trust me. He is viewed through the same lens as others from City Hall - a politician who is looking out for his own interest 1st and foremost. If you think everyone in the African-American community follows him blindly, you (and your boss?) are sorely mistaken.

Poor Bitter Bernie never has had the knack of knowing how to talk to the regular folks in his district. He dresses nicely however, he forgets his skin is the same color. His wife Bobbi is another story. She is hurting him big time. Who can relate to a couple who act as if they are the "white Ozzie and Harriet"? Not CD 8. What has he done to help his own community? When that video taping with LAPD was all over the news he antagonized the situation instead of calming it down. He always forgets he was Chief of LAPD and promoted his best buddies knowing they were all crooks.

After reading the last two entries, I know FOR SURE that you are a member of the PPL. And though I'm not an employee of Parks' now, I was when he was with the LAPD. So, I know what PPL rhetoric sounds like. If Parks is having so much trouble in the black community, then how did he when his election by such a wide margin? And, how did his wife get into this? Are you going to go after his mother and father also? Lastly, during the beating incident, the racist remarks that Parks asked Bratton about are the same racist remarks that Bratton ended up apologizing for days later.

Even the black cops don't like Bitter Bernie.

First of all the PPL wouldn't be smart enough to know about this website. Bitter Bernie was hated by LAPD coppers when he was Chief. He was stubborn, arrogant and an asshole. Read a book called Labrynth by Randall Sullivan. You will be shocked at what he researched and found out about Bitter Bernie's involvement with Rampart. I am NOT PPL. You don't like to read that people don't like Bernie. Did you read the LA Weekly article? That wasn't written by the PPL. They have quotes from black people in Bernie's district. I agree with Bratton that gang bangers are terrorists, thugs and cowards. At least he has the gutts to say it and say it in front of Bitter Bernie as he had in council. Bitter Bernie needs to GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON.

Again, I know you are with the PPL because you can't begin to criticize Parks without calling him names and attacking his family, which means your hatred for him is very personal. Were you one of the dozens of officers he fired because they weren't doing their jobs? And, you reference one book and one article to support your claims. What about the recent article on him in the L.A. Business Journal? He has received better press than any of the mayoral candidates, and you decide to choose two biased one-sided stories. What a joke!

One reason the cops didn't like Bernie was cause he actually expected them to work, not hang around with council staffers and neighborhood do gooders at the donut shop.

Under Willie's watch, they got away with all kinds of shit. As long as Big Willie got his free buffets, he looked the other way (ummm...pork chops!).

Finally someone speaks the truth! I'm glad to finally see Parks being treated fairly by someone on this blog. He's not perfect. But, no one else is either. Now, the next person who writes: "Bitter Bernie" should be required to walk up to him and say it to his face! I doubt anyone has the nerve!

Does Bitter Bernie have the nerve to campaign on things other than his personal grudges?
