Et tu, Antonio?

Back in my day I traveled around and got involved in campaigns - I even ran for President of the United States!

Well it looks like our friend Antonio "Tony Villar" Villaraigosa is in some hot water with his constituents . You see, after his failed mayoral bid in 2001, he later ran for City Council with the promise he would complete his term and not run for Mayor in 2005.

However not only is Antonio once again running for Mayor but he has been going around the country auditioning for a spot in a possible Kerry administration.

So the rub is because Antonio is running for Mayor and he is on the road with the Democratic Presidential candidate so much, some folks in his district plan to recall him. Read all about it in this Los Angeles Times article.

I'm sure! These are probably the same ones who supported Nick Pacheco, the honorable representative who funneled taxpayer money to his re-election campaign. Like CD14 would be hurt by electing the next mayor! Puhhleeze.

All anyone has to do is talk with CD 14 constiuents and hear how unhappy they are with Antonio. NBC 4 did a survey today and 63% of people wanted him recalled. Pretty sad a latino councilman hasn't done anything for his latino communities.

Just another career politician. If Kerry wins, lets hope he takes Tony with him. But then again the word on the street is that he won't pass the Senate backgroudn checks for a cabinet or undersecretary spot.

Holding steady at 60% for a recall on KNBC4 Poll. Not a good day for Tony.

You've got to be a real ass to look at that survey and place any validity to it. (1) It's not even close to being scientific and (2) anyone can vote over and over.

Ah - ding, ding, ding - there we go - meat has loafed.

IF white people find incompentent, corrupt, dishonest or all three - a Latino elected official who has insitutued much socialistic, government largess on the chosen few - then they are automatically racist.

Meat - try not - to beat it.

Tony hired a bus to take VNE gangbangers and their families to a preliminary gang injunction Rocky has been trying to get on them. Yeah right! He's a hypocrite. Just look at his voting record on crime bills when he was Assembly speaker. He takes credit for what everybody else does. He has a staff that are a bunch of morons. TRUST ME....the recall group will absolutely no problem getting 11,000. In fact, I hear people are calling all day long wanting to help.

Antonio sure didn't look very happy or secure when the supporters of the recall showed up for council today

The only moron on this exchange is anyone who thinks that a councilmember can change much of anything in a year's time. It's not like he's Mayor Poopy who has stuck his head in the sand for 3+ years trying to figure out what needs to be done. In fact, every councilmember out there has a group who contend their district is worse off . . . they wouldn't be happy if Osama were captured by the councilmember themself.

I too suspect the organizers will have no trouble getting the 11,000 - however winning the recall could be tougher.

Even if Tony survives the recall - does that impact his shot at Mayor? Of course one rescue option - a post in the Kerry administration - IF he can make the background check.

Antonio has been telling his constiuents from day one he didn't have any money to help the community. Look at the State Campaign website where he has over $700,000 and see where he donated his campaign money. $40,000 to Neighbor to Neighbor and $1,000 to Housing Authority. Not one penny to CD 14 organizations. I hear people are jumping on the bandwagon wanting to help get him OUT.

Over 400 people on NBC survey want Antonio gone. Sure doesn't sound like just the small group his campaign manager said. Way to go Ted Hayes in council yesterday....

Where do we go from here -- we learn today that either the Hahn Administration is corrupt or are just idiots.

I like how people on this blog, "suspect" or "have heard" about the energy/direction of the recall campaign -- if ted hayes wants to spend his time on this, its his right, but wacky nadar supporters that can't even muster 1,000 votes for ted hayes during his council race are somehow going to muster more signatures than Nick Pacheco got in votes during his election? Go ahead and try -- let them be funded so we can find out who wants to fund homeless folks/activists to do some rich donors dirty work. I'd love to know this sooner rather than later.

As for those that have "heard" or "suspect" give me hard core facts, numbers please! -- if you want to rely on that nbc survey his recall numbers are below 50% -- keep your rhetoric coming.

I actually gots to give props to the Hahn campaign, what a way to distract City Hall right before this major story in today's LA Times.

Oh one more thing -- i am not a city hall staffer, but i do recall an LA Times endorsement that mentioned the Villaraigosa staff as being the smartest folks in the building -- LA Times in its endorsement history has never commented on a City Councilmembers staff intelligence.

Oh and thats a fact, as opposed to the folks that "suspect" or "have heard".

Lastly, you can call Antonio whatever you want for his support of programs like Healthy Families (Republican Pete Wilson signed the law) or his support for a tough law on assault weapons (supported by every major COP in the state) or his support for an open space bond (supported by slow growth republicans all over the state) - you can call it socialism if you want, but before you do that make sure to call all of the other folks that held hands with Antonio and call them the same thing.

who's next?

Meat has spoken.

Poor Meat, boy are you in the dark. Sorry Tony's association with Steven Yagman is bad enough. Here's a fact, I live in Boyle Heights and Tony took $1,000 from Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council and is asking for money from Highland Park, El Sereno etc. As far as the NBC survey it's obvious to all that Tony put his people on it to change the numbers. The first day with over 400 voting it was 63% to get rid of him. He's a hypocrite re public safety. I know from the horse's mouth his own field deputy that he provided buses for those gangbangers in Estrada Courts. The whole city nows.

LOOK UP THIS WEBSITE AND SEE WHERE ALL HIS MONEY IS GOING. Instead of asking the community for money he should be giving it to them.

Integrity is the issue, here.

As we hold our President accountable for misleading us regarding Iraq, our local Coucilman will be held accountable for lacking integrity when he made the campaign promise to stay a full four years.

Voters are tired of politicians telling us what we want to hear when they are running for office, and then doing what they want once in office. Everybody knows that if Villaraigosa was honest and disclosed his intentions to run for Mayor while campaigning he would not have gotten elected to council. Nobody likes to be used.

It is this type of behaviour that turns people off to government.

The second lie regarding him not having money and recently revealing he had $500,000.00 for his own political ambition will be interesting. If you live in the district and work with any of the groups you know that Antonio and his office lied about not having money since day one. Many groups are not going to like this when they go to the following link, showing all the groups worthy of his support, but not groups in his district:

No one has been hurt more than residents like me who lives in CD14. Antonio has done absolutely NOTHING since he came in last year. You can say what you want about Pacheco however, now all of Antonio's supporters have jumped shipped and now saying they wish they would have voted for Pacheco.

Antonio is nothing more than a crook, liar and egotiscal idiot! You're right when CD 14 residents find out where he spent his campaign money collecting those signatures will be a breeze. The word is already out from Boyle Heights to Eagle Rock.

MEAT 51% to GET RID OF HIM
